I like Vincent's backstory. MY fave! But he's not in the poll...

I'd have to say that Cloud has the most interesting past in the game. A normal human boy joins Shin-Ra in hopes to become as strong as Sephiroth. But fails the exams, so he becomes desperate and allows Hojo to experiment on him with Jenova cells in order to successfully create a Sephiroth Clone. But the experiments were a complete disaster, this is to be expected as the first subject to become Sephiroth.

But Hojo failed in the concept of creating another Sephiroth in appearance, but surpasses Sephiroth completely in strength. Because Cloud did not appear to be Sephiroth, he was tossed out as a failure and placed in the Shin-Ra army as a Marine, and not a Soldier.

Hojo had Cloud scout around with Sephiroth and one of his best men, Zach. During the time of their teaming, Cloud has befriended Zach who was very close to Sephiroth. Joining Zach and Sephiroth in some high-stake missions, Cloud has learned a great deal of techniques and skills that would eventually get him into Shin-Ra Elite.

Then, something Happened... Sephiroth went Rogue and burned down the town of Nibelheim. Zach chased down Sephiroth at the Mako Reactor in Mt. Nibel in attempts of stopping Sephiroth from releasing the calamity onto the planet once more. Cloud who was knocked out in Nibelheim as Zach and Zangan searched for survivors awakened and followed Zach to Nibel Mako Reactor.

Zach's attempt to stop Sephiroth has failed, then Cloud then stepped up and stopped Sephiroth in his tracks. Sephiroth pierced Cloud with his Masamune, but then the Jenova Cells within Clouds body sensed iminent danger and awoken. Thus giving Cloud a "s**t" load of power, allowing him over-power Sephiroth and throw him into a pit of Mako, perserving his body in a Mako Crystal. Sephiroth was considered dead now.

Shin-Ra has heard of Sephiroths demise, thinking Sephiroth was still loyal to their cause. So they took target to Cloud, Zach who knows the truth decided to protect Cloud, because after the Sephiroth event, Cloud had went into a "Zombified" state, his mind completely blank... his memories lost.

During the time Zach helped him, Cloud started taking Zach's memories he has told him during safe-zones of their running and believed them to be his own. After months of running away, Zach and Cloud were found in the bed of a Truck, driving safely. Zach then telling him more of his past, suddenly a bunch of Shin-Ra soldiers comes by and Zach is taken by supprise, he manages to take out the Soldiers, but then a Helicopter comes by and takes him out with a Sniper Rifle(I think it was Reno or Tseng who did it).

But Cloud manages to get away thanks to the driving skills of the truck driver. Shortly there-after, Cloud awakens with the memories of Zach etched over his own. And thus starting his venture into the game.

That is why I like Cloud. sweatdrop

I'd say it would be a tie between Cloud or Sephiroth. They both have pretty interesting background stories.

Cloud does, but Aeris's is cool, too. I mean, who else in the whole FF7 world coudl say they were an Ancient? But Cloud's is the most intricate and confusing, I think.

That's true. Cloud's past was riddled with lies and uncertainties.

i see where your comeing from comepletey i think cloud and vincent have to most interesting then reno's is okay...spiroth 's is just you know what you completey exspect of a villians background story.
