MIA-BO we do knife sparring too but the only thing is,is that we dont use a knife...we use markers and a white t-shirt.it's fun cause after you are done you can seen where you have been marked and that is where you would have been cut.we have all kinds of fun with it too. That sounds like fun... I think I would have a hard time taking it seriously at first though.... all of the instructors and apprentices would have to get the "carving" names and korean symbols in each other out of our systems first. It is a good idea though.

Lol, thats actually a good Idea, just wear a white shirt, get washable markers and begin. Hmmm, who ever came up with that must be full of resources and useful tactics to train. yeah we have more games like that too.you should try it,it's really fun.i remember when i first tried it.after i was done i was so dead.i got marked right across my neck!!after that i made up my mind that i wood just run is someone came at me with a knife...but now and days i would just take the knife from them. lol, I've trained knife and gun defense's and even though I've done the techniques lick 1000 times, I'd still hand over my empty wallet, lol, unless I knew the person, then I'd kick there a** for pissing me off(unless it was a gun...then I'd be like, ******** it, croutch shot and run)

My dojo once brought in a third degree black belt from Japan. He made us spar with training knives and guns. I think I did well, because I WAS thinking of it as a real knive(hey, it was pretty pokey). But I thought that I wouldn't be this thorough in my movement if someone was doing it in real life. Chances are I'd kick the thing out of the person's hand or run away, fast.

Knife sparring could be usefull. In arnis de mano, we have to use a knife on order to know how to disarm it. In order to know how to disarm a knife effectively, e must first know how to use it knowing the strength and weaknesses of such a weapon. Surely you can't bring a knife and whip it out all the time as the need arises but a knife could be substituted for example, a ball point pen could do. Its called the makeshift weaponry where in you can use anything you posses as a substituted weapon in order to defend yourself effectively.

in a real knife fight (i havent been in any but my dad has. he has also choked a guy out who had the nerve to pull a gun on him [everyone around my dad was telling him to stop and let the guy with the gun go, and when the guy with the gun pulled out the gun the people told him to run and that he had made a mistake ]) the trick is to act crazy if your un armed also keep your hansd out in front of you so if they do stab at you you can eather grab there wrist or get stabed in the hand (it hurst but you won't die and if you grab the knife whale its in your hand it will freak your opponent out and uasally thell stop and run ) also if you have stuff around you (chairs, sticks, a rock, a brick stuff like that ) use it. I'm pretty shure geetting hit up side the head with a brick is more pain full than being stabed (i know cause my bro hit me in the head with a rock once, and a stabbed my self once by accdent[was sharpning my knife and slipped it wasent deep or anythig but it was a stab none the less])

We do knife defense (like the other person has a knife and you're unarmed) but in the black blet test for us they use a real buck knife.
