As the white and green catamaran-like fightercraft began its descent to the runway, a large shadow began to eclipse the runway. Like the flying saucers of the 50s, the modified Invid Clamshell Carrier called 'Boiled Clam' hovered past and behind the hangars. There, a large, spherical crater from the attack had been refined so that its shape matched that of the carrier. Slowly, the craft aligned itself, then ponderously began its careful descent on four columns of powerful VTOL jets.

OOC: Griffin, would you mind if I went over your post and cleaned it up a bit? It has a few typoes and other oddities that could stand for a correction... sweatdrop
The outpost did indeed have an AMS system - it's defenses were, like most of the ASDF-designed tech, overengineered. Weaponry was housed in semispherical armored shutters to protect it from both attack and the elements, and staggered across the walls to prevent a lucky strike from taking-out more than a few of them.
The AMS was actually a combination of AMS/AP weapon systems, with the control circuitry of the AMS linked together for tandem action. With a pod every 30 degrees, that yielded five or six mech-class AMS systems working together on any given attack.
The defense system was in suppressed mode before (Only fire on known hostiles, ignore anybody without a proper ID), but with an attack launched the base automatically switched over to assault mode and opened fire on everybody in range who's not a confirmed friendly.
The AMS/AP pods which could swivel far enough to hit something popped-open and started shooting at the missiles until they couldn't hit them anymore, and then turned their attention to anybody within range not marked as friendly who was outside of a cockpit. The defenses proper then swished into life, and returned fire.
(The roll accompanying this post is for the number of missiles shot down - 5 pods clantech level pods at 2d6 missiles each means 10d6 missiles. I'd roll it myself but I don't have a d6 handy.)

((OOC: Sorry if this isn't fantastic, folks; I had some chunks of my head surgically removed today. gonk ))
The moment the main defenses came online and began swiveling, the red-skinned creature monkeyed her way into her cockpit. Her XO was already on the horn: ||Move, move, move! Four convertible craft inbound! Somebody get them TAGged!||
The stationary mecha were easy targets for the outpost's defensive weapons. Hence why they'd arrived in heavies. The crew of the LRM carrier - assuming it wasn't being remotely piloted; it hadn't done anything to preclude the notion of remotes - certainly had a moment to wish that they'd called in sick today before a series of ER blasts touched off their ammo stores and turned them into a rapidly-expanding ball of shrapnel. The Marauders hop-stepped backwards into the water, returning fire with PPCs. Armor sloughed off their forward surfaces, running down into metallic puddles which scorched the sandbar scrub beneath them. One telling shot from the outpost's long-range weaponry burst through the cockpit of the third mecha; its pilot appeared to have survived, as the mecha continued to walk backward... but then it crumpled over, and the rough motion shook the gyro loose from its housing. The fusion engine went into emergency shutdown before its enormous fury could be unleashed.
Redskin growled into her helmet mic. Immediately, there was a growling response of like kind. If one were to trace the origin of this communique, a difficult task considering that it was a tightbeam IR transmission rather than a radio wave, one would discover that it came from the lead vehicle in a bank of fifteen LRM carriers identical to the first. They were positioned approximately ten meters underwater, missile packs aimed skyward, special multipurpose torpedo/missile ammunition loaded and primed.
Finally, about thirty meters behind the LRM carriers, rested a Linebacker chassis which appeared to have been modified to a more froglike profile. It had traded in its characteristic arm-mounted weapons pods for oversized hand actuators and salvage gear. Not that it was defenseless; its shoulder-mounted pulse lasers could keep away nearby threats. It just had a purpose other than front-line combat.

V.H. Griffin Chan ((OCC: done chief, sorry... it was quite late when I responded, besides english is my second language (as most people know, my main is spanish), and sometimes I have problems with my gramar, but still Ill try to make my post more clear in the future, now time to wait for nida's response)) [OOC] I wasn't aware that you were ESL, but I DID notice that you were having problems. That's why I offered to clean it up for you. 3nodding [/OOC] As the LRM carriers came live, they started to warm up. As they warmed up, so did the water around them. As water gets warm, it rises in a convection current. This is why it doesn't make much sense for an active unit to try to hide from IR in water - it disperses your entire heat signiture in a somewhat smallish 2D area directly above you. The MPs in the control center quickly determined that things were not what they appeared, and got on the horn to units in the field - well, less of a horn and more of directional communication, but still the point remains. Lagrange: All units, fall back! Repeat. All units, fall back. Enemy is attempting an ambush. Repeat. Enemy is attempting an ambush.(1) As the as-yet unknown units were underwater the standard defenses couldn't hit them very well, and the obtuse angle and water made the NL on top of the base fairly ineffective, but 10 meters of water doesn't make all that much of a difference to an NL-55, and so the skies were shortly illuminated by a brilliant golden beam a full 30 meters across shining directly down on the middlish units in the line, with water boiling and steaming in a 90 meter cone, and some trees catching fire outside of that. Of course, the bad angle and water depth doesn't make much difference when your goal is to up the damage on a focused-fire attack, and so the skyward beam was aided by a strike from the NL on top of the outpost, firing at an obtuse angle at the center of the line so as to boil-off the water for the orbital weaponry and increase the damage to whatever it was that was that lurked below the surface. (1) Yes, I've finally started naming the MPs. These will be listed as they become relevent. 3nodding

Saoszuc ((OOC: In the aftermath of that NL strike, all active units which could be targeted by the LRMs are ten meters or more underwater. May I assume that the VTs aren't packing dual-purpose missile/torpedo ammo?)) [OOC] You most certainly may. In fact, I'm fairly certain that the only munitions the ASDF has that can work effectively through an air/water transition are supercavation rounds, and those aren't standard loadout. Also, Griffin, what were those missiles loaded with? An even mix of Flak, Flash, Frag, and inFerno, perhaps? LRMs are basicly engorged RPGs; they don't really pack enough of a payload to qualify for 'warhead' status, but you can replace the explosives with something else to get special effects. Sorry Griff, thems the breaks. sweatdrop [/OOC]

"Three....two...one." The deck rumbled. "And we're down." The communications officer flicked a few switches and slid her fingers over a touch pad expertly. "Boiled Clam is secure. Thrusters off, docking clamps attached."
"Good work, Sarah." Standing behind his desk, unperturbed despite the shifting of the ground beneath him, Doctor Shun Akimoto, head of Project Aquarion picked up his old-style microphone and clicked it on. "Boiled Clam to ASDF Control. Boiled Clam is to be redesignated for communications purposes to Aquarion Project Command Building." He clicked the microphone off once again, and set the antique down upon the rudely hewn oak table.
"Akimoto-sensei!" A heavily japanese-accented voice chimed up. "Vector Luna is requesting launch clearance again!"
Shun grinned, and stroked his chin. "Ohhh?" he asked, expectantly. "And where is Ms. Patterson taking Vector Luna?" He asked, glancing up to the huge viewscreen. As if obeying his unspoken command, the viewer lit up, displaying Eileen in her orange and black flightsuit.
"Ah! akimoto-sensei!" Eileen blushed as she spoke, her words echoing throughout the clamship's cavernous walls "a-ano...gomen nasai! honto ni gomen nasai! I've just heard that one of our outposts is under attack! We have to help!"
"Heh." Dr. Akimoto closed his eyes and shook his head, smiling. "What are you doing Eileen?" The young woman on the screen blinked past her bangs in confusion. The head researcher looked back up at the screen. "You've already been transferred back to ASDF. Go! Protect Gaia from those who would threaten her!"
Eileen brightened, nodded her head, and settled back with a determined look. "Luna to Control! Vector Luna! LAUNCH!" The main screen flicked to show the catamaraned green and white fighter streak off into the sky, while a smaller, diamond-shaped screen above took on the duty of showing Eileen's face.
"And so it begins," mused Akimoto with a hint of amusement. "Field testing."

The naval cannon blast was nothing short of devastating. Oh, sure, only two LRM carriers were completely destroyed, but several more experienced immediate automatic ammo dumps as a result of the sudden heat overload. A bit of this ammo even cooked off, which spooked the rest of the carriers. Not to mention the visibility drop as a result of the water turbulence. And the exploding rain of missiles in the first few meters of water didn't help matters. In short, chaos.
||All units!|| the XO's voice cried. ||Maintain position, all units!||
And on a more private band: ||Mother, what will we do?||
Redskin's voice was slow in replying. When she finally spoke, it was with the carefully-chosen cadence of someone making up plans on the fly.
||Uh, copy, Mother.|| And back on the unit-wide band: ||Mudskipper Group, heading nine-seven, maintain echelon formation, and for the Mother's sake get a TAG on one of those flying units already!||
The LRM carriers jumped into action, forming up in a staggered zigzag line and traveling parallel to the shore. The three Marauders backed out of laser range, then each engaged their leg jets - apparently they were modified water thrusters on these models; not very effective on land, but enough to hold the machines up indefinitely in water - and began taking ERPPC potshots at the outpost and the VTs.

By this point, several of the sensor pods were damaged (Two to the point of being inoperable), but the system was redundant enough that those losses weren't severe. However, three flamers, two heavy lasers, two AM/AP pods, and an ER large laser were taken-out - some from a lucky shot when the system wasfiring, others from the armor shutters fusing or jamming, and one as a result of a faulty lens.
Fortunately, Tanasha had just finished washing her hands, and was ready to take command. Patching into the outpost feeds, she passed some orders to the MPs and set about roping things in, starting with marking the enemy units with IDs
Attention, all units. Break contact and listen. Focus fire on units Tango Alpha and Tango Gamma via C3 system. Scrape branches to scramble target lock, but tack high-to-low on tango-to-Cedarbank passes. We are trading damage for harrassment. We want them disoriented, confused, scared, and wasting ammo on shots that feed the base AMS. Renforcements are en-route, keep them in-theater until then. Resume contact when ready. Over.
Tanasha hit a few keys and did some typing, and a lab appeared on screen. A quick check showed that nobody was home. Tanasha held a key and spoke.
It seems I was correct. When I recorded this, "Nida" was attacking the Cedarbank outpost. As of this moment, your project is now top priority. Material and staff access reflect this change. Do not concern yourself with keeping me updated, I will be keeping tabs on your project.
With that, she turned her attention back to the battle. She hated not being able to act, but by the time she could get there the battle would already be long over. With a few commands, she set the outpost's verbose sensor logs for the past 24 hours to be saved for later transfer to ASDF HQ, and for the sensors to append to that log file - if "Nida" teleported away, the sensors would capture as much of it as they were capable of detecting.

((OCC: well I wasnt aware of that litle thing about the LRMs, but anyway lets say it was a mix as tanasha mentioned on her post, either way I dont believe it will have an effect on the enemy lines))
*Griffin checks a second data transfered to her from the orbital systems, she notice none of the targets where hit, "dam it.." she tough to herself, "they are underwater"
*After receiving the instructions from Tanasha, Griffin sends word to her squad*
Griffin
*After receiving the orders, Griffin Squad breaks formation and aproach trough the sides of the enemy position at lower altitude trying to avoid the detection of the LRMs and friendly fire from the Outpost, for Griffin fighter this shouldnt be a problem as the VAF-9 is equiped with Stealth systems*
*Using her laser directional comunication system, Griffin establish comunication to the outpost*

Tango Gamma - the XO's Marauder - was currently in retreat, shuffling backwards past the modified Linebacker salvager ten meters underwater. She had taken out a couple laser pods with a single critical shot apiece, but she'd pressed her luck and gotten within range of the heavy lasers. One arm was hanging useless from wads of myomer pseudomuscle.
Tango Alpha - the redskin's mecha - was sideskipping in an attempt to make a more difficult target. Its operator was preoccupied with reading data on her secondary monitor. Not only had their primary sensor suite mecha already been downed, but there was apparently jamming in effect. Targeting the base's defense pods and the VF-1Js was tough enough; hoping to catch the VAF-9 with a target lock was little more than a dream.
||Farshot and Cruise Groups, readjust targets; the base's sensors are your priority.|| The XO sounded shaken.
||Xxraschtl,|| snapped the redskin in response. ||Nkshai xxxxxx.||
The XO hesitated.
||XXxxxX!|| the redskin yelled into her mic. ||Ixachtl ********," cursed the XO, but she relented. ||You heard Mother. Let's get moving. Crab Group, bring what you can, priority on Jezebel.||
The LRM carriers began backing away slowly toward the bay proper, keeping their turrets aimed high. The XO and the redskin kept up their PPC shots, occasionally firing at the VF-1Js, but with less heart than before. Just keeping the flies off while retreating. The Linebacker and three LRM carriers moved up to the beachfront. The mecha managed to hook its arms under the downed Marauder and begin dragging it back, but it lost one of its escort carriers to an ER laser. At least the dead mecha took most of the fire intended for its rescuer.

Tanasha watched the battle intently. Things were going well, but they weren't going to be capturing the fake Nida today, and it would be doubtful that she(?) would try a frontal assault like that again. In a couble of taps, she had the ASDF-0 on the line.
Tanasha: Break target lock. If the water is clear enough, track them passively as long as you can with everything your sensors can detect. Record it all. Quiaff?
Aff, sir.
A few more taps and she was back to addressing the craft around Cedarbank.
Attention all craft. When your tree cover runs low, break contact.
