Death is a sad thing. But if you look at it from the revolutionists' point of view, it seems justifiable. If the royal family had not been killed then people supporting them could come and bring back the old way. If only the children were left alive, they could claim the right to power over Russia when they got older.

M-mann
How do you all feel about this topic?

I was not oppossed to the killing of the Czar and Czarina, and possibly their daughters the Grand Duchesses. But was it right to have killed their 13 year old Child Alexi? This is something I have been debating myself since this thread in ED and I'm torn by which way to go with it.

It wasn't right to kill anyone!
In a truly democratic socialist society, only the tsar would face a trial and maybe a life sentence, but the family should not been touched.

(I ask you, what would you do to a person, who has executed your borther. I doubt you would forgive him and rehabilitate him.)

Lenis brother has been executed by Nicholas, after he (Lenins brother) attempted to assasinate the Tsar, because of the poverty of the Russian population.

ok, none of that actually has anything to do with what happened. yes, the central commitee(im not sure if it was the soviet or the bolshevik one, but meh..) approved the order to kill them after the fact, but it had nothing to do with lenin's bro, hell, the death of lenins bro didnt even make him go radical.

I think it helped his interest in Marxisim.

I htink I now see what my opinion is now after reviewing my own thoughts and everyone else's. It was truly a sad thing, but at that time it was porbably a very nessecary thing to have carried out (considering the Czech Legion). And I do know the Central Authority was not Alerted of the killing immediately and that Sverdlov had to explain his approval of the action to Lenin.

No, though I am fascinated with their culture.

I don't believe in killing people for political goals, or killing people in order to acheive anything beyond one's own immediate survival. There are always alternatives, politically. The only justification of murder is physical, immediate defense.

Hmm.

I'm wondering where you got the idea that I think you should all go vote for who you want as if it will really matter?

And what exactly is wrong with a democratic society? Not that one truly exists... But if we value democracy we should at least contribute our voice via votes...

no no no, YOU value democracy, you value democracy as an abstract universal, which it isnt, and never can be, it is only a form of state, and all states are based on the oppression of one class by another, bourgeois democracy is democracy for the bourgoeisie, it oppresses the proletariat in order to create profits, while proletarian democracy is democracy for the proletariat, with oppression of the bourgeoisie in order to safeguard the revolution, which of course you oppose, because, all men are brothers[so sayeth the anarchists and reformists and humanists!]
