I would think they do. I beleive they do. They say humans have souls, and all humans are are mammals and most domesticated animals are mammals so they would have a soul. And (if you beleive in eveloution) everything evolves from something else so everthing would have a soul if we did.
As for why other people think they don't have a soul is possibly because their instincts seem so....heartless. Like killing each other so savagly. Or Hippos killing other animals just for territorialy reasons. Cats and dogs hunting while they have cat/dog food provided. People veiw such ruthlessness the same thing as souless. Seeing as compassion and love can only be found in a soul.

From a scientific standpoint, it's hard to defend the idea that humans and other animals have souls.
But in my heart I believe that we all have a part of us that is comprised of a spiritual energy.
When I was little, I would baptise my farm animals in case they died (I am Roman Catholic). It made me feel better to know that they would go to heaven when they died. cry
Now, my ideas have changed, but I still believe in souls.

I didn't know you could babtize animals. That's kinda cool. I would babtize mine if I believed in that stuff. No offense to anyone but I don't really think dumping you head in water would really get rid of all all your sins. I dump my head in water at home. I don't need to go to church for it.

I would take water, say a prayer and make the sign of the cross on their little furryy foreheads.
I was sad that they were sick, but it made me feel like I was helping them somehow. I don't do it anymore! smile

Kineta Storm Dea and #Teddy# I think people might not think they have souls because they have trouble believing things lower on the totem pole than humans have souls funny thing is, based on attitude towards other living beings, some humans are lower on the totem pole then the aminals lol...that is so true. sometimes, when i hear about some of the horrible things people do, i hate humans soooooo much( i know, i am a human but i hate the humans that do that)

duhh..of course they have souls, they are just like us, i mean i hate it when people think just because they cant talk or they're not as smart as us that they are not like us and they dont have souls but if there was a person that couldn't talk(mute) or a person that wasn't as smart as us(Disorders and whatever)we wouldnt consider them souless.

People long ago used to tie animals up and cut chunks out of them because they thought that they were robots of some sort. And when they heard the animals screaming they thought they were calling the other robots to kill the people who were harming the other "robots". And in the end people believed that they had souls and I believe they have souls. When I look into the eyes of an animal I see a soul... and if anyone has ever had an animal die infront of them and they die with there eyes open it is the most erie thing becaus the eyes are the gateway to the soul and when they are dead the soul is gone and that is how I can tell they have a soul.

well duh they have souls if they didnt they wouldnt be able to care for theyr family and if people dont think they have souls is because they want the world to be one big city with no animals so there will be smoke everywhere leading to everyones death so animals DO TO HAVE SOULS!! stressed
