Okay, firstly I have to say I am ANTI- Jell-O as the next person is... though it is not because of any reason you have presented. You hate something for all the wrong reasons. Do your research first. Now Jell-O is made from the boiled down pieces of what is left over, yes. Though someone said "they are our friends" well here is the thing. I admire the American Indians because they used every thing that was left. Well Jell-O is the meat eater’s way of using what can not be used. Sure it is an animals, sure some people get crazy peta over it. Sure some people think it is wrong, but we all know that we can’t stop the world from eating meat. The thing is would you want them to slaughter those animals and not use everything that they take? Would you really wish that companies left the unused parts of the animals to rot and go to waste? And you might say "What about the animals?" Well The animals are just another part of our would. When they die naturally their remains would just go back into the ground returning the nutrients to the earth. Their meat would be eaten by other animals called scavengers and decomposers. We are the only reason why most slaughter animals ever have life. We use that life to bring life to our own. That life to feed starving children. So here is the question I ask all those people I may have just offended what would you do? Starve children to death, or slaughter a animals to feed them what they would have otherwise never eaten? Your choice. I only hope you see my logic here. I am not saying lets slaughter all the animals. I'm not putting peta's ways down(just saying they are easy to make mad.) I am merely expressing a logical way to look at something you really have no reason to hate. After all hate is a horrible thing. Whether you are religious or not, I am not, most of us do not like hate at all.
And really with the Jell-O... I just don't like the suger content.

The problem isn't with Jell-O, per se, but rather with a food-industry tendency to put gelatin into a bazillion products where it isn't even necessary. As a vegetarian, I would prefer to abstain from as many meat consuming processes as possible.

wikipedia
* Gelatin typically constitutes the shells of pharmaceutical capsules in order to make their contents easier to swallow. Hypromellose is the vegetarian counterpart to gelatin, but is more expensive to produce.
* Animal glues such as hide glue are essentially unrefined gelatin.
* It is used to hold silver halide crystals in an emulsion in virtually all photographic films and photographic papers. Despite some efforts, no suitable substitutes with the stability and low cost of gelatin have been found.
* Used as a carrier, coating or separating agent for other substances, it, for example, makes beta-carotene water-soluble, thus imparting a yellow color to any soft drinks containing beta-carotene.
* Gelatin is closely related to bone glue and is used as a binder in match heads and sandpaper.
* Cosmetics may contain a non-gelling variant of gelatin under the name "hydrolyzed collagen".
* As a surface sizing it smoothes glossy printing papers or playing cards and maintains the wrinkles in crepe paper.

AW MAN stressed !!! What kinds of sugars is it used in? i'm becoming a bit paranoid.

Only cheap cane sugar. Organic brown suger, although expensive, is cruelty free.

I didn't read much of the second half of your post, because the first half was screwed up. Yes, geletin is using all of the animal, however, we still breed animals for the sake of meat, we still torture them, and we still give them miserable lives, not to mention for useless reasons (does anyone really NEED a product that doesn't have proper nutrients and isn't even filling?). Native Americans are just part of the ecosystem, that's what I like about them. They kill what they need, and they use all of what they kill. When they die, they don't put themselfs in boxes, they let their bodys become part of the earth.

Agreed! Though killing animals goes against my moral views, I have immense respect for the Native American cultures who only killed what they needed, and used every part of the animal. The animal was able to live its life wild and free, and when it died nothing went to waste... quite unlike our present-day culture of mass slaughter where, I'm pretty sure many parts go to waste.

Your logic in that post is rather off. With animals in factory farms they are raised for slaughter. This market, like all markets, is driven by capitalism. By the principles of capitalism, theres a little somthing called supply and demand. If the demand for meat goes up then more animals will be bred so that they may live miserable lives awaiting slaughter. However, were the demand to go down, then less animals would be bred for meat.

As for the whole world hunger issue, it taked nearly 5 pounds of grain to produce a pound of beef, which represents a terribly wasteful system. Just think of it this way, with the 'starving child' you mentioned above, would you rater give them a pound of steak or five pounds of grain? Not to mention, world hunger is a much more complex issue than 'Is there enough food to go around?', sure that may be one factor, but politics and economics also play large roles in the crisis.

I don't eat Gelatin.

There ARE vegan "jell-o"s though. They are made with fruit pectin and carageenan! I've eaten those, and they're tasty!

I use raw sugar (turbinado). It's not brown sugar, so it's not quite as mollasesey, but it's still usually vegan. Also, agave syrup, etc. is usually vegan.

Also, bone is used in the processing of alcohol, as is parts of fish. So many beers and wines are not vegetarian.

There is gelatin in so much stuff it's scary. I felt so horrible when I realized all the stuff I had been eatin' and enjoyin' came from such a cruel practice. Now I check the ingredients of everythin' I eat. Scary.
