A foot through the head did NOT help the spirit's mood. Hissing angrily, it snapped at Mauli's leg, but thankfully missed, jaws slamming shut just as she scrambled onto the bed. It took the reptilian spirit a while to climb up after her, mostly due to the fact that it's only legs were in the back, and therefore not very helpful when it came to climbing. But eventually it did make it, slinking calmly up the bed towards her. It was obvious that this one didn't have an adequate weapon... Easy meal.

Mauli scowled, then quickly ducked down and grabbed her pillow, tossing it angrily at the spirit. "GRAAAAH!" She paused, waiting a moment to see what happened, then quickly gripped the side of the canopy with both hands. She swung herself up to the top, transforming to her adult form so she wouldn't break the bed, then peered down over the side with a grin. Hah! Lets see it try to climb THIS far!

The pillow simply flew through the spirit. It hardly seemed to have noticed it, merely continuing towards the pirate SM, hissing in annoyance when she climbed up to the canopy. Well, that posed a problem... The spirit made its way to the nearest corner, wrapping around the pole and slowly beginning to climb upwards, clawed feet shuffling only slightly to keep it going. A knock came from the door, and the spirit abruptly fell back. After hissing a warning to Mauli, it slid off the bed and back beneath the dresser, coiling up out of sight.
Moments later the knock came again, shortly followed by the twist of the knob. The door swung open and Jack stepped inside, frowning faintly and glancing around the room. He finally caught sight of Mauli up on the canopy and chuckled softly, raising a brow. "Whatcha doin' up there?"

Mauli growled, then puffed her chest out, looking supremely unconcerned as Jack entered. "Of course not! I was just... Chillin' out here on the canopy, admiring my roommate. I suppose he's yours?" She stuck a paw out, pointing at the dresser. "He's nice. Acts a lot like you, really. Influences, I suppose." Grinning, she padded over to the edge of the canopy, balancing on the edge.

"Roommate?" Jack frowns, eyes following her paw to the dresser. He strides around the bed and drops to one knee, peering through the gloom to the spirit coiled up beneath the dresser. "How the heck did you get down here?!" The reptilian spirit hissed angrily in reply, strinking out at Jack's hand. He easily avoided it, reaching for the sword at his belt. He swiftly drew it, then slipped it beneath the dresser and jabbed the little creature, which vanished almost immediately afterwards. "Wussy little thing, isn't it?"

"Hah! Wussy. Yup. 'Cept for, y'know, the whole NOT DYING WHEN I HIT HIM THING!" Mauli shouted, twitching. She then jumped down to the floor, eyeing the dresser warily. "How'd you do that, hmm? I tried stomping on it, chopping it in half, beating it with a pillow..."

Laughing, Jack climbs to his feet, holding out the sword for her inspection. "Special blade. We found a few of 'em upstairs. These blades're the only things that'll get rid of 'em." He shrugs and hands her the sword, then sits on the edge of the bed. "You can keep that one. I have another. I'm sure you'll need it sooner or later anyway..." He trails off, eyes turning to the dresser. "That kind aren't any trouble. I'm just surprised one made it all the way down here. They usually don't get past the fourth floor."

"Heh... Fourth floor... Harmless." Mauli repeated, transforming back to her fifth stage. "Sword... works.. Oh!" She then grinned, sliding it into the sheath where her other sword had been. "Awesome. So, these shadow things... They come from the fifth floor? Why donchoo just kill them all and get it over with?"

"Aye, fifth floor..." Shrugging, he pulls his eyes from the dresser, standing with a grin. "There's two many of 'em. Isto an' I went up there when we first moved in, and we barely managed to get out. As it is I have a scare down my stomach from one, and he has a bite on his leg that never quite healed.." Again he shrugs, chuckling. "That was a little one that attacked you. There are many, many more on the fifth floor, and most of them are much bigger. It's easier just to lock 'em there and deal with whatever few manage to escape."

"We could tackle them together..." Mauli offered, then shrugged. "We could find summat these weapons for Lenta and Moo too, and we could all go up there and clear 'em out." She fingered the hilt of the sword thoughtfully, her eyes going blurry. Maybe with a bit of backup... Sure as HECK I ain't lettin' another one of those things in here, she thought. But, that's not what she said aloud. "Where IS Isto, anyways?"

"I think that was Moo's original idea, actually. She was just going to wait until some of the sibs were a bit bigger. Like Acia and Ron." He grins, turning towards the door. "Look like we won't have to now, though. Isto..." He pauses just inside the door, frowning faintly. "Probably upstairs. I had to lock up the Past, which means Isto had to clean out the fourth floor, so that's where he'd be."

"Fourth floor..." Mauli nodded, then gripped the new sword with one hand, a mischievious glint in her eyes. "S'where some of the other monsters are, right? But... If Isto's up there, they're prolly all dead by now." She let off a small sigh, then followed Jack out the door, turning and heading back to the main staircase. "Thanks for the saving, bud! I'm off to do a bit of reconassaince, if'n you know what I mean." Then, winking, she dissapeared around the corner.

"Mmhmm, have fun." Jack snickers, shaking his head in mock despair, continuing towards the stairs. Mauli and Isto under the same roof? This...would be interesting.
By this time, Isto had reached the straicase, but he hadn't yet gone back down. Instead he'd slipped into the room just alongside it, carefully replacing the spear he had been carrying on a rack with three others, all exactly identical. A few more weapons were set around the room... a shelf of swords, even two crossbows and arrows, all made of the same rune-etched metal. After glancing once around the room, Isto stepped back into the hallway. He locked the door behind him, then started down the stairs, vaguely wondering if Mauli and her family had arrived yet.

Of course, if Isto was dumb enough to miss the sudden silence that reigned over the household, then there was something wrong with the boy. XD Needless to say, Mauli got rather excited when she spotted Isto coming down, and she trembled while sheathing the sword she had hastily pulled out before. She shouted towards him, grinning from ear to ear as she darted up the stairs.
"Oi, Isto!"

Well, one must remember that Isto was on the fourth floor of an old, old house. It was ALWAYS silent up there. But then again, he wasn't paying much attention. Just daydreaming... Which is why he didn't quite realize Mauli was actually sprinting up the stairs towards him until she shouted. He blinked, then laughed, stepping down the few stairs left between them to meet her, pulling her into a hug almost without thinking. "'Bout time you got here. Or...maybe you've been here a while, and just didn't come see me first?" Aww, she'd hurt his feelings... Giggle.
