Haze smiled at Raya's question, it seemed she viewed the experience as the pleasant sort. Her golden gaze resting on her own pair of charges, she mused over what the best response would be. She wanted to encourage the young woman, she just wasn't certain how she would go about it. Being a confidant about serious issues was a first, Haze was much more accustomed to gossip.
"Yes, well, there have been occassions where I have been questioned about the physical appearance of my charges. Retta, most especially, as she is quite wooly and wears a teacup on her tail." Haze chuckled, "I simply stare at the person questioning me, flash them a brilliant smile and tell them that if they haven't seen individuals as unique as my charges, then perhaps it would be best they actually explore Gaia."
She laughed, recalling the shocked expressions her answered received. "There are many people far more bizaare in both appearance and personality who roam Gaia. I simply point out that fact to those who have yet to encounter them. But if they insist I tell them how I came to be their guardian, I tell them that it would be in their best interest that they get a life and not bother with mine."
Habi blinked, wondering whether Lavender heard her. With careful steps, she nudged at the train with her beak. 'Want push?' she offered, hoping that the other daemon would accept.
Elias opted to let Habi have a go at pushing the train, and turned his attention to the sand. He was curious how Fray managed to get something as loose as the sand into the shape it was now.
"How make?" he asked, gesturing to the tunnel and then to the sand.

The purple haired girl leaned against the bench, slowly growing more comfortable with the conversation. It usually took her quite a while to get comfortable with small talk – she honestly failed at it. Then again, Forgotten Documents make great conversation topics. She listened intently, and Raya couldn’t help but let out a small giggle at the teacup on the tail comment. The teen gently crossed and uncrossed her legs, resting her head on her hand thoughtfully.
“I suppose that would be the best, mature way to handle it,” She agreed with a nod. “Yes, in fact! I think I’ll borrow that phrase, if you don’t mind,” Raya said with more vigor this time, quite glad that she has something to retort to strangers who ask her about her child’s horrible growth deformation (the thin grey tail that extended from his bottom). “I’ve seen people with bags over their heads, wings and Tetris piece feet and naught said a word. They have no business bothering my child and I.”
For the first time, Raya really felt her maternal instincts kick in. She sighed openly and looked up at the sky for a moment, feeling a little shocked and dazed by her motherly defensiveness for Fray and Lavender. “You know, up until now I’d felt a little… shocked, still, by Fray and Lav. I hadn’t expected any charges in, well, quite a while,” she said with a chuckle, glancing over at her beloved pair. “Yet now, I can’t think of a life without them, you know?”
Lavender barely peeked her sharp little head out from the train carriage. Her coal black eyes blinked once or twice and Habi, and although she didn’t send a message back she didn’t deny. Lavender’s tail, which was resting limp outside the cart, flicked back and forth a little. It was the least hostile she’d been with Habi, or anyone for that matter, the entire day. Fray had his light purple eyes fixated on her and glanced at Habi with a large smile on his face and nodded approvingly. He let out a little cheerful chirp from his whistle.
Fray glanced back at Elias with large, curious eyes. His small, unseen hands from his long sleeves played with his scarf as he shrugged quietly. “Dis,” he said simply. Fray knelt over and scooped some sand on top of the tunnel. As he did so, he seemed to pipe a little tune out from his flute. As he did so, the tunnel of sand easily expanded and grew slightly larger. “You twy?”

Haze folded her hands on her lap, deciding it was best to keep her own thoughts on the notion of motherhood to herself. It was quite obvious to her that Raya was enjoying her new responsibilities. She kept her smile nonchalant, showing no bias for or against her new acquaintance's thoughts. If she wanted to have someone to commiserate with, she'd have to keep up certain appearances.
"I can't imagine myself staying in Gaia without any of my charges in my life." Truth be told they were the only reason she was still here. She'd have returned to Silar and convince herself that her brother had apologized by now. But with Retta she had the perfect excuse to stay here, to not come home. And now with Elias and Habi, she no longer had an excuse but an actual, honest to goodness, genuine reason to stay. She still longed to have the carefree, responsibility-less life she had before she became a guardian (she refuses to use the word mother). But she could bear with it now, far better than she first anticipated.
"If I may ask, where can one find the best educationing institutions in Gaia?" she asked as she turned to the young woman.
Uninhabited took both the tail-flick and the chirping of Fray's whistle as a good sign. Had her beak been capable of a smile she would have given them both a bright smile. 'Okiedokie.' she cawed before pushing the train through the tunnel, careful not to cause it to collapse, or worse get sand in her nostrils.
The last thing she needed was a sneezing fit.
Elias marveled at how Fray managed to keep the tunnel from collapsing. Then again, he rarely had the chance to play in the sandbox as Haze found it to be too dirty for her tastes. In fact, today might have been the first time he played in anything other than the swings. He took a handful of sand and carefully let it trickle out of his grasp, but instead of adding to the tunnel he was trying to make one of his own. Of course he was just making a small mound at the moment.
"Fway help?" he asked.

Raya smiled kindly and rested her head on her hand as Haze continued, quite interested in the talk of a world other than Gaia. The most Raya had ever traveled was her migration from Durem to Barton, which quite honestly wasn’t very interesting to speak of.
“Do you think, when Elias and Uninhabited get older, that you’ll take the back home?” Raya asked curiously. It seemed to her as if Haze wasn’t against living in Gaia, but she didn’t seem very partial to it either. “And as for education,” Raya twirled her pencil nervously and laughed, biting the tip of it. “I actually hadn’t thought about that for Fray, that’s right. And education probably a good thing to think about for a child,” She laughed nervously. Obviously the more practical duties of a guardian hadn’t settled into Raya’s head quite yet.
“Well, I was educated in Durem as a child. Their primary school isn’t too great, honestly. I’ve heard great things about the Barton elementary school, though. It’s two streets down, see?” Raya squinted and pointed above the trees of the park. A tower and bell loomed in the distance, small birds perching upon it. “The building is pretty small but the teachers are supposed to be very good. The high school is not bad, either. I’m taking classes there to graduate early.” Raya nodded her head approvingly.
Lavender sat darkly in the train cart, her tail erect and her ears flat against her head. The dissatisfied-looking rat didn’t make a sound as it was pushed into the tunnel. As she came out the other side, she quickly hopped out of the cart and scurried over to Habi’s feet with a penetrating glare. Lavender was very careful not to touch Habi, but she ran circles around her to inspect the much larger daemon suspiciously.
Fray, on the other hand, when asked for help chirped happily and crawled over to Elias eagerly. He gently and timidly grabbed some sand into his sleeves and poured it on top of Elias’ mound. Raya looked at Fray and sighed unhappily at the sand she would later have to pat out of Fray’s clothing.

The red-head was genuinely caught off guard by the question. She hadn't planned that far ahead, in fact, the idea never even crossed her mind. She knew she'd bring them to Silar for a visit or two, nothing permanent or anything of the sort. But she couldn't help but think of what she'd do once they were old enough to fend for themselves.
"I suppose the possibility of settling down in Silar isn't out of the question. I will be making trips now and again, there are certain matters I have to attend to such as formal gatherings and social functions. My brother has no head for festivities in Silar," she chuckles fondly, "He'd most likely usher everyone into the dining room as soon as they arrive and instruct them all to eat and promptly leave."
Haze listened to Raya's suggestion, wondering how Gaian education would compare to Silar. Then again, Haze never had to attend school, not the way Huni did in Gaia. She had been privately tutored and introduced to society by her older brother. She wondered what would be better for Elias and Retta.
"Would this school allow Habi in their premises, though? I seem to recall Huni telling me of these rules forbidding several things, and animals seems to be one of them? I'm not completely certain." She frowned.
Habi squawked in mild surprise as Lavender ran around her. She sat still while her head tried to follow the smaller daemon's movements, wondering what Lavender wanted.
'We play tag?' she asked in glee, thinking that must be what the little daemon wanted to do. She raised a paw out of Lavender's reach, wings suddenly outstretched. 'You it? Or me?' she continued brightly.
Elias became a little more adventurous and started piling more sand onto the mound. He started to pat at the sand, leaving a handprint where he applied more pressure than the rest. Excited and proud at this discovery, he gestured that Fray try it. It was no tunnel but it had his hand! In fact, he began to wave at Haze and Raya. He wanted them to see what he and Fray were making.

Raya smiled fondly as she listened to Haze’s exotic family connections in Silar. To her, another world seemed so far from Gaia and completely alien to her rather mediocre experiences. As education came up again, Raya crossed her arms and thought for a moment, her eyes drifting to the sky. “I suppose Habi would catch some shocked stares, despite her beautiful stature,” she observed. “Although it’s a small chance, they might learn to accept Habi as a class pet. Unfortunately she’s too large to conceal, but I don’t think many kids would have trouble accepting such a charming creature,”
Lavender backed up from Habi, her small beady eyes glaring darkly into the friendly animal’s soul. The rat held Habi’s eyes for quite a few moments, before her tail curled slightly in relaxation, although the hairs upon her back were still bristled. ‘You it.’ Lavender stated quickly before darting off to the other side of the sandbox with her natural agility. The rat fondly recalled being chased around by Raya’s cat, Ravi, and knocking over furniture.
At the sight of Elias’ handprint upon the sand, Fray let out a happy chirp with his whistle and a small giggle. Smiling warmly at the other boy’s friendly demeanor, Fray pressed his hands against the mound. As small prints appeared in the sand the boy kicked his legs in childlike glee. Fray hit a note on his whistle that he only accessed when urgently needing attention. Raya instinctively directed her attention toward him, but as she saw what the children were doing her expression softened.
“Look at the two of them,” Raya beamed fondly at the kids. “Even Lavender is being almost friendly,” she added, glancing at the rat that was weaving circles around the sandbox. “I didn’t think that Fray would be so contented with a playmate. Do you think they’ve resolved to be friends?” She asked Haze with a warm smile.
