nathan_ngl ZonkotheSane i think you're a little off on the messiah thing sweatdrop - the appearance of the"giant fish" (leviatan, or the laviathan, ruler over all animals) is one of the events that will mark the coming of moshiach. I've heard he's a huge fishy.. more like a whale 3nodding , we will eat him up rofl , and then we will make a large hut out of its skin because it will be so large and all the rightous people will sit beneath it rofl . Yona the prophet got swallowed by a leviathan, but I don't know if it was the same one sweatdrop ... meh, it's not exactly my area of expertise.

darkphoenix1247 rofl giant fish eating people. That just sounds so strange xd sweatdrop which is why it's not my area of expertise. honestly, i like to stay away from the moshiach stuff. it's all hellishly deep, and thus confusing and misleading.

darkphoenix1247 rofl giant fish eating people. That just sounds so strange xd sweatdrop You've never heard of the story of yona the prophet? Yona was asked by g-d to go tell the people of the city of ninveh that if they didn't repent, g-d would punish them. Afterwards, G-d wanted to send yona to warn them a second time, but yona ran away because he was afraid to go back to the city. Yona knew that if they would listen to him and repent, and g-d would forgive them. But then, it would seem that he was lying about the punishment, and would be considered a false prophet. The punishment for a false prophet is pretty ugly sweatdrop ... urgh, you don't wanna know rofl . So yona ran away and boarded a boat to sea. The ship got caught in a huge storm, and yona realised it was because of him. The ship was in danger of sinking, so the ship-mates cast lots. Yona came out in the lot, and he asked them to throw him overboard. Even though they were reluctant at first, he convinced them to throw him overboard. The moment they threw him out of the boat, the storm stopped, and g-d sent a big fish called the leviathan to swallow up yona. After being in there for a while, g-d told the fish to spit him out on dry land and to go tell the city ninveh to repent again. And repent they did! blaugh 3nodding

My husband's keychain is a hamsa. His best friend sent it to him from Israel, it has a prayer engraved on the back in Hebrew to protect you from suicide bombers.

Zonko already expressed his disapproval of hamsas in general.i did...? seriously though- i'm pretty sure i have that same keychain. the prayer is tefillas haderech, prayer for the road. it's said during any period of extended travel (today, over about 50 miles). though i suppose the dangers of traveling do include suicide bombers... anyway, the prayer itself doesn't help. it's not like a charm, or something like that. one actually has to mean these things when one says them.

yet another fyi from zonko....
"mogen david", literally translated, is "shield of david", referring to the sigil that dovid hamelach (king david) flew on his banners and shields. however, this doesn't mean that the symbol didn't exist beforehand, just that dovid's campaigns publicised it.
bonus: it was because of his warring that dovid was not permitted to construct the first beis hamikdash (the temple, literally "house of purity". naftali will check me on that. it may be "house of God/house of the shechina (hashem's "aura", so to speak)). another reason why he couldn't constuct the beis hamikdash was because if he did, hashem would have considered it too holy to destroy, and instead would have been forced to destroy klal yisroel (the entirety of israel, meaning the jewish poeple), as punishment.
but as history shows, shlomo hamelach (soloman the king, dovid's son, also the wisest man to ever live-but that's a different topic) was the one to build the beis hamikdash, and it was destroyed some 400 years later, by the persians.
