Ruthless Phantom

Dear Journal:
Man, it feels like so much has happened lately that I don't know if I'm standing on my feet or my head...yet at the same time, I have this odd sense of peacefullness, as though everything is going to be alright...but I can't help but wonder if it really will be.

I mean, it's not like this was an accident; I wanted to have this baby, after all...but it suddenly seems so real (given the fact that none of my pants fit!) that I"m having more doubts now than I ever did while planning this. Hopefully confidence will grow with my baby!

First rp: Caj breaks the news to her sister Chivara!
Participants: Caj, Kaja, Chivara

Cajmera
Yawning slightly, the tall redhead flopped over on her side and looked at her watch. "Hrm...it's getting later than I thought; I probably ought to go and see about making something for brunch."

Still, she didn't seem very motivated to get up, and for a few minutes just lay there on the patio lounge, her hat partially over her eyes and her other hand laying across her abdomen. Lazy was good and all...but finally, with another yawn, she rolled to her feet. "Well, I suppose it would be rude to have Chivara come over to a foodless evening, even if she knows me well enough to know I'm a lousy cook." At that, Cajmera had to chuckle; it was a running joke among everyone that knew her that she couldn't even boil water without burning it. Still, she had invited her sister over to supper, and supper they would have! And then, afterwasrds...well, then it would be time to share the news!

Glancing around the corner of the house, she first made sure that Chivara wasn't there already, then trotted in through the back door, heading towards the kitchen.

Chivara_IceMage
Humming softly to herself, the slight, gray haired woman strolled up the waklway, a small wicker basket swinging on her arm as she added a bit of perk to her step. After all, it wasn't every day that she got to see her sister in her own home. For some reason, she'd always insisted on their meeting elsewhere.

"I wonder what's gotten her so worked up," Chivara mused. "She was sounded nervous on the phone...I hope she didn't set the kitchen on fire again." Chuckling at the thought, she knocked on the door, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.

"Ring-a-ding-ding, dear! Anybody home?"

Cajmera
A skillet in one hand, Cajmera looked up in surprise as the doorbell rang at what seemed to be totally out of the blue. "Trust Chivara to come from the direction that I am not expecting..." She murmured to herself, but it was with a smile. She ought to be used to unpredictability by now! "Kaja! Aunt Chivara is here, would you please go let her in?"

After a moment, a dark red head poked around the kitchen door and nodded, then withdrew as Kaja first acknowledged her mother's request, then trotted off to answer the door; a sharp pair of demon horns protruded from her hair as she walked along, and one of these she rubbed in an absent-minded fashion as she reached the front door and pulled it open. "Afternoon, Auntie Chivara; Mum says come on in!" The demon child grinned as she spoke, for she was most fond of her gray haired aunt who always had the most fascinating stories to tell! "She's in the kitchen right now, but I think that nothing has gone up in flames yet...or at least, there's been no smoke!"

"I heard that!" Sticking her own head out of the kitchen for a brief moment, Caj made a hideous face at her daughter and sister. "Must everyone always malign my efforts?" Still, she couldn't keep up the scowl for long, and flashed Chivara a grin. "Welcome to our crazy home, Chiv!"

Chivara_IceMage
"Thanks, Caj. It's good to finally see you again." She gave her sister a hug, grinning like a maniac. "And, really now, think of all the interior decorating experience you've aquired. Kitchens must surely be your specialty." With a wicked grin, she ruffled Kaja's hair and uncovered her basket so only the bainr kinder could see. Inside was a blue-green turtle in it's own carrier tank and an unimaginable amount of food, many of which Chivara knew Kaja would love.

"Just in case," she whispered with a wink.

Cajmera
"Yeah, yeah; honestly, you torch one meal, and suddenly you're branded for life!" Sighing melodramatically, Cajmera nonethless returned the hug with a laugh; that 'one meal' had resulted in her entire kitchen being charred beyond repair. Minor detail, though. "You ought to be happy to know that I'm playing it safe tonight, though; we're having omelettes. Which I can actually prepare safely!" At that, she smiled and headed back to the kitchen, giving a curious look to the basket and her daughter as she did so, though, because Kaja had let out an excited squeak at the sight of the turtle. "At any rate, make yourself at home, Chiv!"

As soon as Caj had gone back to the kitchen, Kaja immediately latched onto Chivara's arm. "Oh, what a cute turtle! What's it for, Aunt Chivara, huh?" Her eyes were bright with interest, for she adored turtles and her two pets pygmy turtles, Herman and Oliver, were the joys of her life. "Hmm? Is it for me?" Batting her eyelashes angelically, she gave her aunt what she thought was perhaps the most angelic look a demonic kinder had even accomplished.

Chivara_IceMage
"Omelettes sound great, Caj. I'd eat anything just about now. You know, it's not exactly the shortest walk over here, and a maturing mage needs her energy." Though she laughed, in the back of her mind, Chivara wondered if there was something was coming, because everyone knew she adored breakfast. Still, it was a minor detail of a paranoid young mage, right?

"You know, it's a good thing your mother isn't in the room right now, young lady," Chivara said with a grin. "She knows that look a little too well...but not just from you." As gently as she could with only one arm, Chivara pulled the tank from her basket, and showed it to the young demonic girl. "He's for a very special young lady, Kaja." Her eyes lit up at the little game and, as soon as it was safe enough, stole a seat on the plush sofa. "You get three chances to guess who."

Cajmera
Back in the kitchen, Caj hummed to herself as she watched the eggs, prodding at the first omelette with her spatula thoughtfully. One hand rested lightly on her stomach, and an aolmost dreamlike smile crossed her face...but only for a moment. "Eep!" With a squeak, she hastily dumped the first omelette out of the pan as a tendril of black smoke curled up from it. Peering at it, she shrugged her shoulders. "I guess that I'll eat that one...oh well."

Back in the other room, Kaja grinned and plopped down on the couch besides Chivara, her furry tail twitching back and forth excitedly. "Well...since I know of only one girl in this household that adores turtles...I'm guessing it's for me!" Her hands reached for the tank, wanting to hold the adorable little turtle; it was such a cool color!

"Hey, whenever you two are done whispering, the food's ready!" Caj's voice broke in suddenly on the little 'conspiracy', and she poked her head around the doorway. "Better hurry before it gets cold!"

Chivara_IceMage
"First try; you got it." Handing the turtle to Kaja, Chivara stood and stretched, pointing over to the kitchen. "I think we'd better go see if your mother needs to be saved, though. I have a feeling that our omelettes are going to be a little well done." Inside, she was glad that the small demonic child loved the turtle: sometimes it was so hard to make sure she was doing the "auntie" thing right...

"We weren't whispering, we were....well, nevermind." Grinning sheepishly, Chivara slunk into the tidy, spacious kitchen, waving away the tendrils of smoke. "Need any help, Caj?"

Cajmera
"You are totally the best, Aunt Chivara!" Grinning ear to ear like a Cheshire cat, Kaja lept to her feet, cradling the blinking turtle in her hands. "I've got to go introduce him to the others right away; you can tell Mom that I'll be there shortly!" With that and a swish of her tail, the teen was racing through the house, and all that could be heard was the thud of footsteps as she raced up to show her other turtles their new playmate.

"Um, actually, I think that I've finally gotten it right!" Running one hand through her hair in a sheepish manner, Caj turned and showed Chivara one of the plates (the one with the least black omelette). "That doesn't look too bad, does it? Besides, I've heard that charcoal is actually very beneficial to one's health." Chuckling, she toted the plate over to the table, where she set it at one of the three place settings. "And actually, if you'd get the milk and ketchup out of the fridge, I'd really appreciate it." Turning back to the counter, Caj deftly collected the other two plates, as well as a bowl of green salad and a basket of breadsticks and took them to the tabel. "And where did Kaja get off to?" She raised a brow at her sister in suspicion, placing her hands on her hips as soon as she set down her things. "Did you bring her another present?"

Chivara_IceMage
"Guilty," Chivara admitted with a chuckle. "I can't help it - it's in my nature to be overly doting, I guess." Rooming about in the fridge, she finally found the milk and ketchup. Staring at the offensive bottle of tomato paste, she shook her head and finished setting the table.

"I found a turtle the other day out back and immediately thought of Kaja. Who, by the way, says she'll be down in a while. I'm hoping that includes some time today, but I know how she is about her turtles, too." She glanced at the omelettes, suddenly wary. It was one thing to tease Cajmera about her cooking, but an entirely different subject to trying it. It looks safe, at any rate...

"It smells great, but now you've gotten my curiousity almost as hungry as me. What's this 'big surprise' you mentioned? And why in the world do you want ketchup with your eggs?" SHe raised a brow and folded her arms across her chest, giving her sister an all-knowing glance as she leaned against the table.

Cajmera
"Well, I just want you to know that I'm holding you entirely responsible if Kaja turns into an overly indulged and spoiled teenager instead of the wonderful child that she is now, since I know that I happen to be a model mother." Cajmera actually managed to keep a straight face for five seconds, then she couldn't help but burst out laughing at the absurdity of what she had just said. "But at least it was a turtle and not a car or some crazy thing like that; there is such a thing as being too doting, after all."

Pulling back her chair, Caj sat down, gesturing for Chivara to take the seat in front of the least burned plate of eggs. "No doubt she's totally over the moon, but I expect we'll see her shortly; probably with all three turtles in tow." Although not a fan of the reptiles to the extent Kaja was, Caj had gotten used to the turtles' prescence EVERYWHERE....including the dinner table. But given the choice of present turtles or absent daughter...

She picked up her fork and speared a pice of omelette, biting cautiously, then breaking into a relieved smile. "Ok, you can stop staring at the food, Chiv; it's edible. And as I told you earlier..." She set down her fork and propped her head up on one fist, an amused smile playing on her lips. Chivara just had no patience sometimes... "I'll tell you AFTER dinner, so just hold your horses. This news will keep, I assure you. And the ketchup is for Kaja, not me; she won't eat eggs without ketchup, don't ask me why."

Chivara_IceMage
"But of course," Chivara agreed with a grin. "Over-indulging isn't my specialty, but being a doting aunt is." She shuddered slightly at the thought of the bainr kinder in control of a car. She certainly wasn't that crazy... but the thought of ketchup on eggs was still strange to her, though she knew many preferred them that way.

"So we'll be having a few more dinner guests," she laughed. "Very well, but you know how I am when it comes to waiting." She took a small bite of the omelette, then another.

"You get the star of approval, dear sister."

Cajmera
"Oh, now I know that those cooking classes have been beneficial." Grinning, Caj chewed on her own mouthful of eggs, shaking her head in amusement. For once there were no smart remarks about her cooking; how shocking! "And yeah...I'm used to turtles at the dinnertable. At least they're quiet."

After a short while, though, it became apparent to Caj that Kaja wasn't going to be down anytime soon; shrugging her shoulders, she pushed the salad bowl over to Chivara. "Green stuff for you, or are you an anti-veggie person?" At the same time, she eyed the clock slightly; after all, she didn't want to wile away the entire night in dinner and small talk! Of course, it's not like that much time had passed yet anyway, but when it came to patience...well, lack thereof ran in the family.

Chivara_IceMage
"Don't I know it," Chivara agreed, rolling her eyes as she took the salad bowl. "Yeah, salad sounds good. Unusual with breakfast, but good." I brought some of my famous muffins along for later, though. Provided someone hasn't snuck into them yet." Finally, however, she just gave up and set down her fork.

"Alright, Caj, spill it. We're both watching the clock like rabid penguins are going to attack at any minute. Using Kaja as an excuse to wait won't work, either, so..." The young mage crossed her arms and gave her sister a Look. "You know you're dying to say whatever's on your mind."

Cajmera
"What can I say, I like to try and make sure that every meal is well-balanced. Besides, it's not breakfast, it's brunch." Grinning, Caj munched on her own salad, perking up a bit at the mention of muffins; just because she herself was a lousy cook didn't mean that her sister was, and how long had it been since she'd had a muffin? "I doubt that muffins would even register for Kaja at the moment, so I'd say that they're safe...but bribery still won't work!"

Finishing her salad, she pushed the bowl aside and propped her elbows up on the table, resting her chin in her hands and giving Chivara a raised eyebrow look . The rabid penguin thing was strange, true...she had no idea how one would look if they were anticipating a rabid penguin attack, but it wasn't uncommon for Chivara to throw her a curveball when she was trying to ferret out information. "Maybe I am, and maybe I'm not. Wouldn't you like to know, though!" Grinning evilly, she rose to her feet and began to carry the dishes over to the sink. "Maybe I just want to torment you by not telling you for a while."

Chivara_IceMage
"Foiled again." Chivara sighed and threw up her hands in defeat. "Very well, Caj, I give. If I can't bribe you with my cooking, there's just no way." She started to clear the table, deciding if she really should give up the fight...and knowing instantly that it was the most ridiculous idea she'd had to date. And the penguin thing...well, one never knew what to expect, especially around her.

"Oh, c'mon, Caj, please? Pleeeease?" She pouted, giving her sister puppy eyes and batting her lashes. "You know you want to." Just as much as Chivara wanted to pull out her hair from anticipation. Cajmera was just not taking her normal baits.

Cajmera
Cajmera was indeed not up to her noraml baits, for this news was MUCH more important than any previous news, and consequently it was much easier for her to continue to draw it out. "Chivara, you're starting to sound like my daughter; now I know where she picked up that habit, methinks..." Caj gave her sister a mock-serious scowl, but she was grinning at the same time as she loaded the diswasher. "You're acting like a little kid, not the mature and worldy adult that I know..well, THINK that you are."

As she spoke, he worked her way about the kitchen, putting away the uneaten food and the condiments, wiping down the table, and the various other miscellanious chores; she might not know how to cook well, but she was very good at puttering. Finally, though, she ran out of little kitchen chores, and the room gleamed like a new penny. "Well...I suppose that I could tell you now. But first...to the living room!" Winking at Chivara, she bounded over and began to hustle her sister out of the room and into the hall, edging her towards the living room. "After all, comfort is important when telling important news, right?"

Chivara_IceMage
"Well, some say so, at any rate," Chivara said with a chesire grin. It was so nice to be assured her niece was as quick a study as she thought. "And besides, what's wrong with being childish once in a while? It keeps me young." She followed her sister obediantly into the livingroom, every fiber wired now on the prospect of ferreting out whatever Caj had been hiding.

"So?" she asked as she plopped onto the couch. "What's so important that it could keep through dinner?"

Cajmera
"Brunch, Chiva, brunch!" Shaking her head, Cajmera flopped down into a squashy armchair, grinning at her sister in a fashion almost identical to Chivara's own. "You need to learn the proper designations of meals, that you do. But anyway..."

She shifted postions in the chair, crossing one leg over the other and clasping her knee, a thoughtful expression on her face. Now that the moment was here, she suddenly realized that she had absolutely no idea how to brooch the subject! Talk about awkward...

Well, obviously the best idea was just to jump right in. "Well, I'm glad that you believe in childishness and enjoy spending time with my daughter, Chiv....hopefully you still feel the same way when her sibling turns up."

Chivara_IceMage
"Food's food," Chivara said with a shrug. "'Tis quality over namesake, my dear. Besides, what do you call having breakfast at five in the evening?" She shared the grin and shook her head.

"You mean you're going to adopt another?" She raised a brow, but her smile seemed to brighten. "That's great, Caj! Kaja could use someone to help in the creation of choas...I mean, nevermind that. sweatdrop " She sank back into the plush fabric and sighed.

"You're lucky. I couldn't afford one of my own. I bet Kaja's pleased, though..."

Cajmera
"Hey, you're the one who originally called it breakfast, so if I want to call it brunch, that's my perogative, you whelp." Picking up a cushion from the chair beside her, Caj chucked it at her sister, knowing that since her impresionable daughter wasn't around, it was alright ( ). "Besides, it's my house, so I get to decide what to call the meals!"

Frivolity aside, her expression turned serious; at the mention of adoption, she had to shake her head. "Close...but not right. I'm going a slightly differnent route this time." As she spoke, she smiled, and patted stomach lightly. "I wanted to see what all the fuss about actually bearing a child was all about, so....this one's going to be my own biological child. Kaja's not really to sold on the idea of a sibling yet, though..." She sighed and leaned back into the chair, biting at her lower lip thoughtfully. That was the one minor snag in things so far. "I don't know why, exactly, but she told me that she'd rather have another turtle. Or a horse."

Chivara_IceMage
Squealing in mock outrage, Chivara tried to catch the offending cushion, but only got hit by it instead. Somehow, this turned into the young mage seeing an opprotunity for getting back at her older sister.

"That's ferret, and you know it!" She giggled, trying to control herself and failing miserably. For a moment, however, she managed to succeed, and seemed quite serious.

"I can understand where she's coming from, though." Then, something in Chivara's brain clicked. Caj wasn't just having a baby, she was having a baby.

There are many expressions the human face is able to create. In the five seconds it took her to react, Chivara created about a dozen more. Another squeal seemed to come out of nowhere as she darted over to Cajmera's side and nearly lifted her off her seat, remembering at the last second that there were conditions to worry about now.

"Caj, that's great! When did you find out? Why didn't you tell me sooner? Why in the bloody blue blazes did you make me wait to find out?! xd "

Cajmera
"Hey, you're also a whelp, so that's just as applicable as fer-RET!" The end of the word was accentuated as Caj was suddenly pseudo-picked up, meeping in surprise at the unexpected gesture. "You don't need to fling me about! That's just...unkind!"

She had to laugh at Chivara's reaction, both her facial changes and her exhuberant display of glee; she'd been wondering what her reaction would be, after all. "Took you long enough to get it; honestly, Chivara, I'd say that you're starting to slip! Shame on you!" Grinning, she nestled down in her chair, as if fencing herself in from teh possibility of another assault." And I only found out recently, thus the reason I didn't tell you about it sooner. After all, I had to make sure before I went about telling people, as you can very well understand. But if it makes you feel any better, you're the first person other than Kaja to find out."

Chivara_IceMage
"Much better, yes," Chivara admitted with a slight purr. She couldn't hold her excitement for long, however, and was soon bouncing in her seat and clapping her hands. "I just can't believe it. My older sister's having a baby! You have to let me throw a baby shower." It was a matter-of-fact statement, though her smile made it seem gentler.

"This calls for muffins. And desert." And a massive banquet she wasn't prepared for. One thing was for certain: Chivara had a new mission in life. Just as certain was the fact that she wasn't letting her sister go through a pregnancy as a single mother by herself, and she said as much.

"Like it or not, Caj, you're getting my help during this. You know I'll always be around if you need me."

Cajmera
Muffins. Trust Chivara to think that muffins were the solution to the situation...but then, there was definitely something to be said about the power of muffins...although Caj had always suffered from the assumption that it was the healing power of muffins. But whatever worked, right?

"Alright, I think that I can handle muffins; they are tasty, and whatnot. But you have to go get them, if you let Kaja run off with them." Laughing at her sister's exhuberance, Caj leaned back in her chair, a happy smile on her own face. "And somehow, I had a hunch that you'd say something like that...guess that this little one is going to have a strong familial relationship whether it likes that or not." Not that she figured that it would be a problem...and she definitly knew that she herself would be appreciative. Perhaps that was really the important thing about family. "Now then, about this shower..."

First rp in the GMFC thread; danke Sanura!
Participants: Cajmera, Badru, Fetalini, V'Aron

Sanura Panthress
The shapeshifter walked along the streets of the nearby market, her baby perched upon her shoulders. It had been a while since Fetalini felt comfortable enough to walk in public after all that had happened. But lugging an infant around was pretty hard work; what with all the tugging on her hair, the wiggling, and the reaching for things. She found a seat at a local cafe and decided to have herself some tea and get little Badru a pastry to teeth on.

V'Aron wasn't far behind his fiance; making sure to inform Fet of any sights his son had. Once she sat down with the child, he sat with her; taking his son off her hands for a bit and feeding him bites of chocolate cookie.

Badru squealed and gladly shoved the piece of cookie his father handed him into his mouth; his fingers managing into that void as well. Flipping his hands around in glee, he spittled up some bubbles before his father wiped him clean.

Cajmera
"Hrm..." The fingers of one hand lightly drumming on the tabletop, Cajmera sat by herself at a table not too far from the couple, her expression thoughtful and a glass of lemonade sitting neglected as she read intently from a book titled "Trials and Tribulations: all you ever wanted to know about childbearing." It was a pretty informative read...even if she was getting a bit too into it, given the location. Already she'd garnered a few dirty looks from the wait staff who wanted her to either order something significant or else get the hell out...but who cared about that?

The sudden sound of a baby's happy squeal broke her repoire, however, and with a startled glance she looked up to see that a couple with a small baby had settled down at the table next to hers. And what a cute baby it was! "Awww!" Almost as soon as she'd made the admiring noise she covered her mouth; they might not be the type who liked having strangers ogle their child.

Sanura Panthress
Badru's little feline ears perked at the adoration and he almost fell out of his father's lap to crane his neck and look at the woman. With his sapphire eyes widening a bit, he then giggled and clapped his chubby baby hands together.

Fetalini perked her pointed elven ears and smiled at the woman, not helping herself and giggling at Badru's obvious adoration of the woman's adoration. Her eyes then glanced at the woman's round stomach; she was obviously expecting one herself. With a tender smile she addressed her through speaking to her son. "Is that nice lady watching you?" she said in a baby-tone.

V'Aron couldn't help but chuckle, turning himself so Badru didn't have to crane so hard to see the woman. Lifting the baby to his feet and holding him there, he took Badru's hand and made it wave in greeting. "Say 'hello', Badru!"

However the only thing to come from Badru's mouth was a bunch of bubbles and spittle as he seemed to grin ear to ear.

Cajmera
Although her cheeks were tinged with a slight blush at being caught staring, Caj couldn't help but smile; both at the obvious cuteness of the baby and the seeming pleasantness of his parents. Setting down her book next to the forgotten lemonade, she turned and gave a wave back to the baby, her smile widening at the sound of his infectious baby laughter. "Guilty as charged; I just couldn't help myself, he's such a cutie! And it's nice to meet you, Badru." Glancing at his parents as though for permission, she offered one hand to the chubby little paws of the baby. He just seemed to friendly! And happy! Perhaps her baby would wind up like that when it was born...

Sanura Panthress

V'Aron smiled at his son, "You wanna say hi to the nice lady, sweetie?"

His fingers flexed, opening and closing his palms quickly in obvious "gimme gimme hands". He was gently handed to this new person by his father and his hands quickly went to the round belly in awe. With little mouth round and ears perked high, his tail flicked behind him as his fingers ran over the curve of her belly. In a sudden burst of giggles, he wiggled; something had moved against his touch! How exciting!

"He's a cutey alright! My name is Fetalini, this is my fiance V'Aron. It's nice to meet you." She giggled at her son's responce to the woman's pregnant roundess and she crossed her shapely legs. "How many months are you?" she asked inquisatively, her smile never once fading as her silver/blue eyes kept watch of her son.

Cajmera
Blinking at the suddenness of it, Cajmera was nonethless delighted to get to hold the deliciously adorable Badru; when his hands went to her stomach, she had to laugh at his perception. "My my, aren't you a smart little guy? Not too many people have noticed that little one yet!" She smiled, feeling her unborn child's response to the baby's touch; she never got tired of feeling that sensation! "And it's nice to meet you, Fetalini, V'Aron; I'm Cajmera. And I'm about five months along, actually...so I'm trying to get as much figured out and organized now as I can!" Inclining her head towards her own table, her pointed with one curved black horn at the book that still lay there. "But it's a little overwhelming...as you probably know better than I!" She chuckled a bit self consciously; she was talking to a woman with a young child, so obviously Fetalini knew better than her! "How old is Badru?"

Sanura Panthress
"He's a few months now. He's growing like a weed though, just like his momma did," she chuckled. After a bit, her eyes went to the woman; it was easier to let Badru out of sight with someone who obviously wasn't going to snatch him away. "It can be hard at times... But the rewards are far worth the struggles."

V'Aron smiled, "Our little one doesn't crawl, he actually skitters around on all fours like an animal. It's adorible seeing as he's got his mother's feline traits. But sometimes, he'll slip away from me and hide under the table." He sipped some tea, glancing at his fiance and grinning. "Five months? That's not that bad! I wonder if you're having strange food cravings like Fet did." He was whapped playfully by the shifter but he kept on grinning.

Badru was facinated now. Not only did she have a moving belly, she had black spikey things on her head! "Eh!" he squeaked, reaching up with those same "gimme gimme hands".

"He seems to like your horns! I think he takes to anything that's black and shiney."

Cajmera
Well, he certainly is an adorable few months old! Though he doesn't seem to be the type who'd be much of a hellion..." Looking down at the burbling baby, Caj laughed and lowered her head so that the small hands would be able to wrap around her horns, but managed to look at his parents at the same time. "Of course, I like to think that I know enough about children to understand that they can look angelic while in reality they're anything but...it's still hard to shake a personal belief that strong, you know?"

Deciding that sitting with her head tilted would probably be a bad idea in the long run, or even the immeadaite short run, she compromised; scooping up Badru from her lap and moving him up to sit on her shoulders, supporting him just in case he turned out to be one of those little ones that liked to try and jump from heights. "Yes...the rewards are what I had in mind with this whole process; although I must admit that I feel slightly less sure about this now than I did going into it. I suppose that merely knowing that I'll be responsible for this child...heck, knowing that I already AM responsible for this child is enough to shake up anyone who thinks about it..."

Sanura Panthress
The infant gladly sat still on the woman's shoulders, his fingers sliding against the sleak surface of her horns before they poked them to see if they were detachable. They were stuck in there good. No matter! He squealed happily and patted her horns in excitement.

Fetalini tilted her head in question at what Caj had mentioned. "What makes you less sure now? Are you the only parent?" She wasn't all too knowledgable about all the reasons a woman could be a single parent, and she didn't want to assume one that she knew was the case.

The winged man leaned against the table and chuckled, "Oh, if he's anything like his dad; I know that bit about angels hiding demons is true. So far, he's been good. So, we're hoping it stays that way." He leaned back in his seat, watching Badru a bit now.

Cajmera
"Hmm?" Glancing back from Badru and his horn admiration to Fetalini and V'Aron, Caj at first wasn't sure what Fetalini meant until the other woman clarified. "Yeah, it's just me...I decided I wanted to add to my little family, and decided to try the whole 'birth experience', as it were; but now that it's slightly more tangible than numbers and lists on paper...it's a little overwhelming." She looked downward, a wry smile on her face, then looked up and clarified a bit herself. "My daughter is 13...but I adopted her when she was 4, so I can truthfully say that this whole part of having a child is new to me, and will be new for a while, I'm guessing."

Sanura Panthress
Fet felt embarassed and she looked down to her lap, her pointed ears drooping slightly. "Oh... Well, Badru is my first as well and WHAT a first," she quickly perked back up. "If you don't mind me asking; was there a man involved with you or did you try the donner program? If I'm getting too personal I'll shut my trap!"

"My, full of questions, dear." V'Aron smirked, looking back to his fiance then at Caj. "Fet's not one for tact- OOF!" He was nudged in the gut by the shifter and he chuckled. "I'm kidding around, you should know this by now."

Playing with her black spikey things was so tiring! He let off a squeaky yawn and rested his arms onto the top of her head before his cheek went to his arms. His eyes fluttered closed and his tail stopped its slight swaying and rested against her back. It wasn't too long before he had actually fallen asleep between her horns, a low purr rumbling in his chest.

"Look at that," the winged man chuckled. "Zonked out already..." He stood and managed to remove his son carefully without messing up Caj's hair, tucking Badru into a blanket curled within his arms. "And soon now that he's curled, that little thumb of his is gonna pop right into that void of a mouth." Sure enough, the infant's thumb found his mouth.

Cajmera
"No, it's alright. If this conversation was inverted, I'd probably be asking the same thing of you, although I hope I'm bright enough to tell that there were two involved for you two." Cajmera smiled, then blinked as V'Aron plucked up Badru; she hadn't even noticed he'd fallen asleep! "Guess I'll need to work on my observation skills, or my little one is going to get away with murder!"

Now that she didn't have to worry about dropping the baby, she leaned back in her chair, crossing one slim leg over the other as well as she could, given her belly (which was good at getting in the way!). "I decided to go with a donar; less complicated, better chance of success, and just a better fit for me. Besides, I'd heard good things about the success rate of the GMFC, so I decided that it looked like it worth trying for!" As she spoke, the fleeting realization that she was conversing with two people she'd never met before finally hit her, and she had to chuckle inwardly; apparently whoever had said that babies were the ultimate ice breaker was right!

Sanura Panthress
"Our situation is rather complex, but in a technical stand; yes, he is the father to my child. I would get into it, however it may have you questioning what I am talking about," she giggled. She had come to peace with the strange situations and problems her fiance had; and seeing as said problems hadn't been occuring much, she didn't care too much to elaborate.

V'Aron profered the latter subject Cajmera brought up, and after semi ignoring Fetalini's statement, he brought himself to smile. "The GMFC was where Fet went to get tested and where she goes for check-ups. It's a very good place and very reliable." He glanced down at the sleeping infant before he looked back to the woman. "Do you know who the donner is yet? Or is it a bit of a mistery until the baby arrives?"

Cajmera
Caj nodded her head politely, but understood Fetalini's reserve. And there was the fact that they didn't know each other too well, so such personal and intimate things might not be what one really wanted to share. "That's ok; I think that I'm good with the basic understanding of what you mean; obviously you two had something that worked for you, and that's the important thing."

Glancing from Fetalini to V'Aron, she smiled first at the sentimentally cute image of father and sleeping baby, then nodded at his additional credit to the GMFC. "Really? It's good to hear more positives about the place; my sister originally recommended it to me, and it looked legit, so I went ahead...but outside validation is a great thing." Resting one hand on her stomach in a sort of subconscious fashion, she went on to shake her head at V'Aron's question. "I decided I'd trust Kamiki's judgement; one less thing for me to fret about, after all...and it adds yet another pinch of mystery to my baby's future, as I don't even particularly know what I am." A strange circumstance, but as she'd never known her parents, she never found out what she was; and her horns were enough of an indication that she wasn't 'normal'....whatever normal really was.

Sanura Panthress
Fetalini nodded, "Oh yes, the GMFC has been recommended to me by a few friends of mine; and seeing as how well they've treated me, I highly encourage continuing to go there even after birth for check-ups." Her ears flinched to the sound of Badru suckling on his finger and she went into her bag to pull out his pacifyer. Gently plucking his thumb out of his mouth, she replaced it with the pacifyer in a chuckle. "If you're wondering why I did that; he gets callases on his thumb from doing that."

V'Aron continued the conversation at hand, "Mysteries can be fun; and I'm sure your baby will be fine." He chuckled, "You're looking at a man who has multiple personalities and a woman who can change into any living thing... we're used to not being 'normal'." He found himself trying not to laugh too loud for fear of waking up his son. He smiled at his fiance, "Maybe we should head home and put him to bed... He looks tuckered out."

She nodded, waving a waitor for the bill. "That sounds like a plan to me." After paying her tab, she smiled at Caj. "Well, I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy; I know the end result of all your hard work will be a ray of sunshine. It was really great to meet you, and perhaps we may meet up again."

Cajmera
Nodding her head, Cajmera gave both Fetalini and V'Aron a wave and a warm smile. "Yes, it's been great meeting the three of you; who knows, maybe we'll all run into each other at the clinic or something. You guys have a great night!" With that, she shifted hersle fback to her own table, picking up the neglected lemonade for a sip and then returning to her book. Better safe than sorry...

Dear Journal:
Well, I finally feel like I have at least some semblence of confidence in this whole process. Kaja and I have been pretty busy as of late, getting the baby's room ready; it's utterly adorable! Since I have no idea as to the gender of the baby, I decided to go with a non-gender specific color...and even if it is a girl, no child of mine shall be forced to exist in a pink room! Kaja suggested that we do the room in red, and as I am pretty partial to that color, I agreed. We had a great bonding experience painting the room; I'm trying my hardest to do as much with Kaja as I can before the baby is born, as it's going to be quite a change afterwards. I really hope that Kaja and her new sibling get along...

I've been reading up on as much baby literature as I possibly can in prepartaion for this, but I get the distinct impression that ultimately, I'm going to be winging it. Kinda makes me see why people like to have two partners involved going into this...but even though I'll be a single mother, I know I'll have support. When I told Chivara, she was so surprised that her eyes bugged out; it was hilarious and touching at the same time. And I know that I only have to ask, and Sirenz will be there with a helping hand. Honestly, that sister of mine has been through so much, and yet Xander and Alexis are still two of the neatest kids ever. Auntie Caj loves you guys!

I've also made the acquaintance of another young couple with connections to the GMFC; Fetalini and V'Aron and their baby son Badru. Talk about an adorable baby; I was so tempted to just take him home and cuddle him forever! He was very smiley, and seemed to be utterly fascinated by my horns...but his mother told me that he had a thing for black shiny objects, so that's not really surpising. It was great to get to talk with people who had so recently undergone all of this, and I hope to run into the three of them again some time. I guess we'll have to see, won't we?

Rp: Getting ready to paint the baby's room!
Participants: Caj and Kaja

Quote:
It was a perfect Saturday morning; the sahdes were drawn, the curtains closed, and every last scrap of the warm sunlight outside was kept there; outside. Inside, Cajmera slept peacefully, wrapped up in a blanket for additional warmth and totally oblivious to the outside world, exactly as it should be on a Saturday morning. In fact, a perfect Saturday morning came and went with no notice at all, until it had become Saturday afternoon, at which point Caj would drag herself out of bed and go see about finding some breakfast. As one of two days in the week that she didn't have to work...well, let's just say that she liked to take it easy.

At least, that was the usual routine.

"Come on, Mom! You need to get up and going, or you're going to sleep the whole day away!" A voice tinged by laughter broke abruptly and rather rudely into Caj's peaceful dreaming, and she made a disgusted noise. Honestly, didn't people know Saturday was her sleeping time? Burrowing her head under her pillow, she hoped in her sleep-addled state that the intruder would take the hint and leave; after all, it wasn't too late for her to fall back asleep.

No such luck. Kaja stood in the opened door eyeing her mother for a moment, then sighed. Obviously Mom had forgotten about the plans for the day...and it was Kaja's job as a loyal and dutiful daughter to remind her! "All right, Mom; you need to get up and at it! Remember, we're going to paint the baby's room today? You said that we'd get started bright and early, and it's both bright and early...although we really should have gotten started earlier. It's almost 9 O'clock!"

Almost 9???? That meant it was still in the range of 8am! What a horrid, horrid time to be awake! Rolling over as well as she could, Caj withdrew her head from under the pillow and gave her daughter a poisonous look. "Kaja, you ought to know by now that any time before noon is early; bright and early simply means whenever I myself have felt it was a good time to get up! And this is very, very much not a good time to get up." As if to prove that point, Caj glanced over at her digital clock; 8:47 flashed at her in big red digits. Bleh...

Kaja was non-plussed, however; she was a naturally early riser, unlike her mother, and could be just as stubborn. "Well, it's my turn to help decide when to get going, and I decided that we should get started early so that we'd have time to get everything done today! You don't want to spend all weekend inhaling paint fumes, do you? That can't be healthy." As she spoke, the demon child leaned against the door frame, crossing her arms over her chest and nodding sagely. Her furry beast tail twitched against the floor impatiently; from head to foot, Kaja gave the impression that she wouldn't budge until Caj had.

"Meh." Caj knew her daughter well enough to know when she'd made up her mind...and when she was right. Now that she thought about it, a vague memory of herself promising Kaja that they'd start this project whenever Kaja wanted floated up in her consciousness...but she quickly repressed that. At any rate, she was awake, so she might as well get up. "Fine, fine; we'll start painting as soon as I've gotten dressed and had a muffin. Why don't you track down the paintbrushes and rollers?" Caj waved Kaja out of the room with a hand, but at her daughter's skeptical glance she sighed again. "I'm getting up, I'm getting up, see?" With a monumental effort, Caj moved herself to a sitting position, grabbing her glasses off of the nightstand and putting them on, then stood up. "See? I'm not going back to bed."

Satisified that things were progressing, Kaja nodded, then in a flash of her tail she was gone, off to assemble all the necessary painting supplies. Kaja was very much looking forward to this painting project, as it would be the first time that Caj had ever let her help apply paint to the walls.

Yawning mightly, Caj flopped her way over to the chair that she'd draped her painting clothes over the night before; changing into them took longer than she ever could have imagined...or maybe it just felt like that because she was so tired. Hard to say. At any rate, once she got some caffeine into herself, she'd probably be ok.

By the time Caj made it downstairs to the kitchen, Kaja was already waiting there expectantly, a glass of orange juice. "Here you go, Mom; now hurry up so that we can get started! I've already made sure that everything is assembled and ready to go, so...we're all set!"

"Maybe the stuff is all set, but I'm not." Taking the juice with a grateful smile, Caj trotted over to one of the kitchen chairs and sank into it, plucking a muffin from the basket of muffins that sat in the middle of the table. "And before you start saying anything, remember that this eary start time was your idea, darling daughter, and you've always known that I do not do mornings that well." Caj punctuated that by taking a bit out of the muffin, then sighing; she was rather partial to chocolate chip muffins, but had unfortunately discovered that during her pregnancy they made her queasy; the muffin she was eating at the moment was a plain corn muffin, which was not even close to an acceptable substitute. But it was better than a saltine cracker, so she just made due. "Besides, you should be nice to me as a gesture of symnpathy, if nothing else."

Rolling her eyes, Kaja snagged a chair of her own and sat down at the table next to her mother, taking a muffin of her own and eating it. "I don't think that you really need sympathy, Mom; you're just being silly."

As a testament to her own maturity, Caj responded by sticking out her tongue; and it was at that moment that she noticed something rather out of the ordinary. Kaja was entirely alone. "Kaja, where are the turtles this morning? I can't recall the last time that I saw you utterly turtleless!" And it was true; gone from their usual perches at Kaja's shoulders and on top of her head were the three pygmy turtles she called friends; Caj had just gotten used to the fact that she'd never see her daughter without reptilian accessories, and consequently this sudden lack of turtle was startling.

"Yeah...I decided that paint might not be good for them, and I didn't want to worry about them breathing paint fumes or failling in or anything like that; it might not be safe. So I left them in the aquarium." As though Caj's query had been a reminder, Kaja glanced at her shoulders, then ran one hand over the top of her head, encountering nothing but her sharply pointed demon horns. "It really does feel kind of weird, though..."

"Well, I think that was a very smart idea, Kaja; I honestly have no idea how turtles might react to paint, and I know that we'd both be very sad if anything happened to them; they can have a look at the room when it's done, I suppose. And speaking of done..." Caj downed the last of her orange juice and finished her muffin; now that she had some caffeine and food in her, she felt less like one of the walking dead and more like a person. "I'm done eating, so we can go get that room painted!"

Dear Journal
Blah, I feel so bloated these days that even the effort it takes to pick up a pen and write seems to be exaggerated...but at the same time, words arent' adequate to describe the sense of...well, peacefulness that seems to set induring these last few months. I'm uncomfortable a lot physically, but mentally, I suppose that I've reached a good place.

It's weird to walk into the baby's room and see all the stuff there...the painting job is so cute, the border, the crib and everything else so neatly arranged and matching...it's like I walked into someone else's house, since Lord knows that neither Kaja nor myself are usually tidy. But I have a rule about not touching things in teh baby's room...so it ought to stay tidy and a symbol of what I can accomplish, if I set my mind to it!

I particularly love seeing the stuffed turtle that Kaja got for the baby; at first she didn't seem that taken with the idea of having a sibling...but apparently the idea has grown on her, and she's now actually looking forward to having a baby brother or sister. I have to wonder how much Chivara had to do with this change, though; she's been such an angel in helping me manage and keep up with Kaja and her feelings. The last thing that I want, and consequently my greatest worry, is that Kaja will be resentful of the baby when it comes...

I like to think that I"ve grown closer to my daughter through this pregnancy, though. She's been with my every step of the way, and helped with everything like the great kid that she is...I'm just so proud of her, and hope that things continue in this vein for many years longer.

Yawning, Caj flopped down into the armchair that sat in the nursery, glancing over to the side at the crib containing her darling Remy. He looked so cute and innocent while sleeping...but man, people weren't kidding when they said that babies could be energetic when awake!

Tired as she was, Caj smiled ruefully, rubbing one of her horns in an idle fashion. She hadn't been a mother to a baby before, so, besides the constant fear of doing everything wrong, there was also the plain and simple differences between a baby and a child to figure out. "Kaja seems so easy now in comparison..." The words were murmured softly, to herself at the innermost limits of even being audible. Given how long it had taken for her to get Remy to sleep in the first place, if he woke up now she could almost, almost cry herself. But luckily for her, he was quite the little sleeper...just like his mommy was, actually.

After enjoying the peace of sitting for a few more minutes, Caj glanced over towards the digital clock. 2:30 am...not bad, for once. Although she'd been trying to get Remy to sleep for the past 4 and half hours...he was just such a bundle of energy that he just wanted to keep playing! Thank goodness for Arafina; she seemed to have a very calming effect on the baby, for whatever reason. As if to prove that point to herself, Caj looked into the crib, smiling at the adorable sight; her red headed son, clutching the sleeping blue Feli in his pudgy little arms. So cute!

Though just standing and watching Remy sleep had it's appeal, a stronger desire to get some sleep herself finally kicked Caj out of the room. Closing the door quietly behind her, she crept down the hall towards her own room, stopping first in front of the door to her daughter's room. Gently, she opened the door and peered in, smiling as she observed the dark red hair spread out on the white pillow; even in the darkness of the room, Caj could see the three turtles nestled about Kaja's head as she slept. To this day, it wasn't really something that she herself could consider doing...but then, the fact that Kaja loved her turtles was not something that anyone who saw her could doubt.

After contenting herself that all was right with both her kids, Caj made it the rest of the way down the hall to her own bedroom, dragging herself over to the bed and flopping down on it, not even bothering to put on her pjs or even move Riamore, who had been napping on the pillows. Nope, all that mattered at this point was getting enough sleep to make it through the next day...

Dear Journal;
Remy is getting to be so active! I swear, there is no such thing as baby-proof with that little rugrat crawling around, seemingly able to unlatch every latch and climb everything even remotely climbable. I tell you, the first time I walked into his room to see Remy perched atop the bookshelf...well, I nearly fainted from the surprise. But I like to think that I"m getting more used to him as the days go by. After all, it's just like I said earlier; having a baby is bound to be different from having a five year old.

GMFC thread rp!
Participants: Cajmera, Remy, Ranjit, Nila, Russel

Lenachan358
(( Oh it's a premiere ! I feel honoured smile It's Nila's first toddler rp, too ))

He needed the silence.

Ranjit moved into the building known as GMFC and smiled slightly. At home there was so much going on, so many new expression and all the children were changing so fast. His eyes turned to his daughter, whose small hand clinged to his shoulder. Smiling slightly she looked around. Nila knew this place.

A strange kind of animal followed them. It was Russel, the alien pet, which was Nila's steady companion.

"Nobody's here yet, Nila. Let's sit down and wait until it's our turn, alright ?" The man explained to the toddler as he took a seat on a nearby chair and placed the blue-skinned girl gently onto the floor. Nila grinned.

Cajmera
((Aww, that's so sweet! First time rps heart ))

"Well, are you all ready for this, Remy? Remember, you represent the family today...so it really wouldn't be all that shocking if you decided to throw a screaming fit. But I would really appreciate it if you didn't, just so you're aware."

Smiling in what was meant to be a bold and confidant fashion, Cajmera's face was nonetheless tinged with the slightest bit of anxiety as she walked into the GMFC, her red-headed son nestled in her arms. It was time for Remington to get a few shots, and she was more than a little nervous about them; Kaja had never needed to have shots.

At least Remy was untouched by his mother's nervousness. Instead the baby simply looked around, his bright interested eyes taking in every detail and his plump arms clinging tightly to a stuffed yellow turtle. Almost absently, he pulled one of the turtle's feet into his mouth and began to gnaw on it, in that absent fashion of babies.

Glancing around herself as they entered the room, Caj was surprised to see that it was almost empty; in fact, aside from themselves, there were only two other people present. But that was probably a good thing, as that meant Remy could probably get his check-up done sooner! Naturally, a bit of that first-time anxiety lifted, and it was with higher spirits that Caj scouted around for a good seat.

Lenachan358
Nila had spotted the new persons at first and her clear blue eyes focused on the smaller one at once before trailing from mother to baby. They didn't appear to be scary, but after all you never knew if a person was scary until you heard them talk. That was the toddler's experience anyway.

As Ranjit heard someone enter he smiled. "Hello. Here for a check-up, too ?" The man didn't mind the company and after all Nila needed to get to know more people beside her siblings. She was a very quiet girl and so usually if he brought the siblings along everyone received friends but her.

Shifting slightly from her sitting position Nila stared at the baby and then looked at Russel to make sure the pet was still there.

Cajmera
For a moment Cajmera thought that the man was talking to his daughter, so her response was just a little bit delayed. "Oh! Yes, it's time for Remy to get his first official check-up today; I assume that's what you two are doing here?" Smiling pleasantly at both the man and the little girl, Caj settled down in one of the chairs.

As she did so, Remy's eyes never left the little girl; he'd never seen another small child before, only teenagers and adults. This fellow small person was naturally of the greatest interest, and he tried to wiggle out of his mother's arms so that he could investigate better. "Uh!"

At Remy's outburst, Caj looked down to see what had her usually placid son so agitated and raised a brow. "You want down, huh? Well, ok then..." Normally he liked to be held, so this was a surprise. But then, they'd never really gone anywhere yet, so it was hard to say if this was normal or not. But there didn't seem to be any harm in letting him scuttle about, as the door was shut; maybe he'd even make a friend!

Remy seemed intent on SOMETHING, at least; as soon as he was on the floor he crawled over to Nila, the plush turtle being dragged along.

Lenachan358
Ranjit was glad to know that there were others in similar situation. "She has been here before once, but it's still always exciting and you never know how she reacts. I'm Ranjit, she's Nila." Looking at the baby that was placed on the floor as well he nodded to himself. "Congratulations on your son."

Nila knew a lot about other children, even if the most children had been her siblings. She was well informed about them being noisy and agile. So she decided to do what she always did. The girl smiled and just watched the human coming towards her. No greeting, but no abandonment either. One of her small hands was burried in Russel's fur while she watched Remy coming closer with a plushie.

Cajmera
"Well, you have me at a slight advantage, Ranjit; I honestly have no clue how he'll react. But's he's doing pretty well right now, at least." With a fond smile, Caj turned to look at her son, then looked back to the man. "Oh, and I'm Cajmera; he's Remington. And thank you." At the congratulations, she grinned and ran a hand through her short hair, ending up with it resting on the base of one of her demon horns. "I guess you could say that I'm still getting used to this whole process. But yeah..." She trailed off for a moment to look back at her baby, her gaze then moving to the small girl he was heading for. "Your daughter is very adorable, by the way."

After a bit of difficulty, Remy finally made it over to the other child. But instead of grabbing at her or trying to climb on her, he simply pulled himself into a sitting position in front of her, grinning a baby grin and hugging his plushie. "Grble!" He pointed first at his plushie, then at Russel, his head tilted to one side curiously. He'd never seen a toy like that before!

Lenachan358
"I wish you all the best. Seems like he'll behave though. Some of my other children would do much worse, believe me." Ranjit thought of the troublemakers and home and shook his head slightly to make the thought vanish. "Nice to meet you. You'll get used very quickly. When Andraste was pregnant she was very scared, but now she's used to all the babies and children and so on." The compliment felt awesome and the Nokke was out of sudden a very proud father. "Thanks. She doesn't talk a lot though, we're a bit worried about it."

Nila watched Remy and was very satisfied that he didn't want to tug on Russel's hair. Sometimes Otieno tugged on his hair and Russel ran away and squeaked. It was like crying, not the same sound, but like crying. Remy didn't seem to make him unhappy though, because the animal moved forward and sniffed at the baby. When Russel wasn't scared Nila didn't have to be scared as well.

Her small hand waved and then she pointed at the animal. He was allowed to touch it or he could give Russel the plushie, whatever he wanted.

Cajmera
"Well, he hasn't really had much of an opportunity to act out yet, so for all I know he's just waiting for the right opportunity." Chuckling, Caj crossed her arms behind her head and leaned back in the somewhat uncomfortable chair, one watchful eye still on the children. "She doesn't talk much, hm? Maybe it's from having siblings...I've heard that sometimes having talkative older siblings can make a child unusually silent." Yet another random fact that she'd gleaned in her hours of reading on babies and children. Ah well, if it came in handy at some point, who was she to complain. "So, you have other children as well?"

Remy sat still as a stone as he was sniffed, his eyes dancing with fascination. So it wasn't a toy, it was an animal! A sniffy animal! Setting down his plushie, the baby reached out and touched the animal's nose, then his ears. Beaming from ear to ear, he looked from the animal to the girl, then pushed his plushie towards Nila as a sort of offering. Maybe Turtle didn't move, but he was still very nice.

Lenachan358
Ranjit grinned at the statement and watched the small boy. Perhaps he was just more intelligent and was able to hide the emotional inside. As he listened to Cajmera's words it was obvious that he was amazed. "Really ? Oh, we totally didn't know about that. So yeah - seems very possible to me." Phew, if it really was like that Ranjit was very relieved. "Yes, but Nila is our only natural born child. The other four are adopted or let's say they have been found." He shrugged. "Is Remy your first child ?"

Nila was a bit worried as Russel was touched, but as she noticed that the animal was calm, she felt alright. Although she hated talking she wanted to let the other one know what the pet's name was. "Russ-el." Accepting the plushie Nila smiled and examined it in a typical toddler like way. She tasted it quickly.

Cajmera
"Don't quote me on that, though, since I'm not totally sure; but I have heard it's a sound theory for quiet younger children." Which of course meant that she would be wildly concerned if Remy turned out to be a silent child, as Kaja was remarkably sedate. "Actually, my situation is slightly like yours; Remy is my first natural-born child, but I have an adopted older daughter, Kaja, who's 13. But since I've only had her since she was 5, all this infant stuff is unfamiliar territory."

"Usl." Not a very clear mimicry, but Remy wanted to let the girl know he knew things, too. Not as much as Kaja did, or Mama...but he knew things. "Turl." As he gurgled the second word, he pointed at the plushie, then reached out to Russel again. "Usl!" Yes, it was a proud moment; he was so pleased with himself that he took hold of his toes and rolled over.

Lenachan358
"I'll check on it when I get home or I guess I can simply ask the doctor." Ranjit smiled. Finally one sorrow less. "Thirteen sounds like a very difficult age. Our oldest son, Jacosa, just ran away. Luckily he just visited his grandmother. I guess puberty is about to start or something." A small sigh escaped his lips.

Nila listened. She was used to listen to things and so she just nodded. Remy seemed to be alright. Looking at the plush she realized that it looked a bit like her brother's pet, which appeared to be a turtle too. Why did everyone like turtles ? Patting Russel's side she watched Remy roll over. Was that fun ? Quickly she tried to imitate it and giggled.

Cajmera
Ah yes, puberty...that wasn't really something that Caj was looking forward to dealing with, either. Kaja with hormones??? "I'm sorry to hear about your son, but it's great that you know where he is. Kaja has a knack for vanishing from time to time, but she can almost always be found out in the marshes. That child lives and breathes for turtles...but I think that's less stressful than it being boys." Sighing, she ran a hand across her brow. After all, one just couldn't be sure that a good child would be a rotten tempered teen!

As Nila rolled over as well, Remy squealed in babyish delight, then began to roll over again. Someone else rolled! Kaja and Mama never rolled, although Mama's pets would, sometimes. But people never rolled before; talk about a remarkable breakthrough!

Lenachan358
"Turtles ? I guess she'd like to meet Otieno then. He's one of my sons and owns a turtle-like pet called Bom he always carries around." Ranjit liked the flow of this conversation. A bit of small-talk, the usual stuff, no stress. The giggling children were awesome. Perhaps Nila was finally able to make a friend.

Nila continued to laugh and bumped into Russel, who snorted in response. The giggling grew louder and now she tried to roll sideways. That was funny too, but it made you dizzy !

Cajmera
"That sounds like it could be the start of a conversation that lasted for an eternity. Kaja has three pet turtles, all of them pygmy turtles that she takes with her everywhere. They sleep with her, eat with her...it's crazy. I mean, I'm no hater of reptiles...but that's a little much." Cajmera chuckled, remembering Kaja's reaction when she'd learned she was going to have a brother or sister: 'Whatever it is, it better be ncie to my turtles!'. "Kaja's not much for socializing, but those animals can inspire her to great feats of conversation for her. Maybe it would be good for her to meet Otieno." Though the topic had shifted from the younger kids, she was still keeping a parental eye on the chikdren and had to laugh at the sight of the two little ones rolling like wheels. "Looks like they don't hate each other, at least!"

Giggling in a high-pitched fashion, Remy tried to roll sideways as well, but all he wound up doing was flopping on his side. Not very effective, so he went back to rolling the other way. "Grl!"

Lenachan358
Ranjit suddenly had an image in his mind which made him grin. "Wow, but you still allow her to sleep with them ?" Andraste would have killed Otieno if he had three of them, she was already angry about Bom. "I'll bring him along next time. He's usually a bit - grumpy. But he loves turtles, perhaps they would get along." Watching the rolling babies Ranjit agreed. "Indeed, Nila's incredibly active today."

Said girl was about to roll right into Remy and laughed as she bumped against him. She didn't know that being larger and heavier was probably a bad thing for him. Giggling loudly she clapped her hands together.

Cajmera
Grinning ruefully, Caj rubbed her head once again. "Well, I tried to make her put them in the tank at night...but she'd just wait untill I was asleep and sneak them out again. Or get mad. And she's a violent mad child, not a peaceful mad child...not I finally decided that it wasn't worth getting riled up about. "Kaja was going to come along today, but then decided it was a good day to go swamp diving." A thought that naturally caused her mother to cringe, as swamp diving was a literal term and when Kaja came home she'd be caked in mud, algae, and swamp muck. "But she might be more interested if she had another turtle fan to talk to that wasn't a baby."

Remy was taken off guard at the bump and that, caused with him already being off balance from spinning, caused him to tip over and hit his head against the floor with a 'clunk'. For a moment, he just lay there, surprised, and a couple large tears crept out of his eyes. But rather than burst into tears or cry out or anything, he pulled himself back up to a sitting position, sniffled a couple times...then started to roll again.

Lenachan358
"Bom doesn't have a tank, unfortunately. Sometimes he swims in the bathtub, but usually Otieno wears him as a mask." Seing how strange this had to sound to Cajmera Ranjit grinned a bit embarrassed. "Well, the turtle is some kind of alien pet. Just like Russel is." Watching the animal he noticed the clunk and appeared to be worried. As Remy got up again he smiled though. "Seems like you've got a tough boy, too."

Nila heard the sound as well and stopped rolling. What was that ? Did something happen ? Oh...did she hurt Remy ? Quickly she crawled over and touched the other one although he was rolling again already. "Ouchie ?"

Cajmera
As Remy hit his head Caj had half risen from her chair, ready to race over at the first wail...which never came. That was certainly different. "Huh." Blinking, she lowered herself back down into her chair, her gaze still on her son as he righted himself. "Guess that he didn't want to stop whatever it is that he's doing at the moment; yet he doesn't mind making me drop what I'm doing!" She laughed nervously, the sort of laugh one makes when they're not really sure how they feel about something.

When Nila touched him, Remy paused in his rolling and looked at her curiously; then he broke into a wide grin, reached over, and touched her as well. This must be a new game! "Ou-ie?"

Ok, obviously Remy was fine. "I give up; children are far too complicated for me to even begin to figure out." Cajmera raised her hands in a gesture of dismissal, then smiled over at Ranjit. "So you have a bit more variety in your pets, I suppose. Kaja's turtles are the ordinary kind, but she has them pretty well-trained. They like to ride on her shoulders, or on top of her head, or in her bag; and they swim with her in the swamps. It's very odd."

Lenachan358
"The problem is that they are all different.." Ranjit laughed and watched the children. "I'm glad they get along. I wonder why the doctor is taking that long." Looking at the reception Ranjit wondered if Nila was willing to wait longer.

Remy was so funny. Shaking her head she looked at her arm. No, she was alright. Quickly she picked up a strand of Remy's hair. "ouuch."

(( sorry for the slowness my boyfriend is calling ))

Cajmera
((S'ok; I actually have to get going myself. So...last post! ))

At that moment, a nurse slipped out into the waiting room. "Sorry for the wait, we were just getting a few things in order after our last patient. Next?"

"Well, I guess that you guys, then." Smiling at Ranjit and Nila, Caj nodded towards the receptionist. "I guess that we'll talk to you later, then; have a good one!"

Remy burbled happily, still thinking that it was a game; so he just poked back gently at Nila. Maybe he'd figure out why, eventually. Who knew?

((Nice rping with you!))

Dear Journal;
Well, those blasted shots have come and gone; I don't really know why I was so worked up about them, because Remy certainly wasn't. I was so very proud of him, how brave he was in there! He just held tight to Turtle and watched very intently, with only the tiniest of whimpers when he was pricked. And he sure liked his band-aid!

It was an eventful day, though; in the waiting room, we met a father and daughter, Ranjit and Nila. Remy seemed to like Nila and her pet...well, I'm not sure what it was, but he sure liked it! The two of them were about the same age and they had fun rolling about. I was a little worried when Remy fell over and bashed his head, but he seemed to be more concerned about getting back to playing...kinda weird, in a way.

Ranjit also told me abotu his older son, Otieno; apparently he, like Kaja, has a thing for turtles. Perhaps the two of them will meet sometime.

Dear Journal;
Man, things have been crazy lately; Remy seems to have come down with some sort of virus, and he's not been sleeping well; so for the duration of this cold, he's going to be sleeping in here with me. Can't say that I'm exceptionally thrilled about the idea, but I'm getting worried. He's been sniffling and sneezing for too long for my taste, and since having a sick baby is an even newer experience for me than having a baby at all...you might say that I'm a little on edge. But on the positive side, I've made an appointment at the clinic for tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

Waiting
Quote:
Hands resting on the back of the couch, Kaja knelt on the cushions and peered out through the living room window with an expression of nervous anticipation. Occassionaly she would flex her fingers, her nails digging into the wine-colored upholstery, but otherwise she was remarkably still.

Kaja's dark-colored tail twitched from time, seeming to jump back and forth between the two Felis that lounged on either side of Kaja on the couch and seemed to be having a good game of 'bat the tail'...which didn't seem to bother Kaja one bit, which was slightly unusual.

Finally, though, something caused Kaja to break her vigil; sighing, she turned around and flopped down on the couch, petting Riamore and leaning back against the back of the couch with a bored look. "I wonder what's taking so long...Mom was only taking Remy in for a checkup, right?"

Unsurprisingly, neither Riamore nor his Feli friends Arafina were able to provide the girl with much of an answer other than to blink their big eyes at her.

"Meh...I hate waiting" Grumping a bit, Kaja bounced to her feet, then trotted off towards the kitchen. No reason she couldn't be comfortable and eat while she waited...
