everybodyLOOSEY Amano-kyoko Tayuya is a lot different. Even though she talks like a guy, she calls herseft "uchi" which is what southern Japanese girls call theirselves. Yeah, doesn't Deidara call himself 'oira' when he's around Sasori? And then suddenly switch to 'ore' when he's fighting Naruto and Kakashi? As far as I know, girls don't say 'ore' at all. >_> As for the flat-chested thing, I recall seeing a little when Deidara's cloak is flapping all around, and then in chapter 281. I'll go looking through my manga pictures and see what I come up with... I recall reading about that note in Shounen Jump, but I haven't seen it with my own two eyes. What I read was that Kishimoto said expressly that Deidara was a male and that another Akatsuki character will be female. Eh, so yeah, I think Deidara is male. o.o Watch, I bet you anything- the female member will end up either being paired with Itachi or Deidara. I highly doubt Deidara, because he doesnt seem like one to make a commitment like that.. Niether does Itachi, but hey;; something could've happened, cooped up for 2 years, raging hormones.. you know. So yes, I also agree Deidara's a male. [[ Sorry, it's just proven evidence has said so ]] XD

I don't remember which japanese shonen jump issue it was, (because it comes out every week) I know it said about Kishimoto-san saying Deidara is a guy. It was really hard to read becasause of the bad quality. Even though I read it not on-line, but at the book store.
Anyway, I would probably die if Deidara was a girl. *lol*
If you know and have been in Japanese culture for MANY years, it's really hard to think Deidara can possibly be a girl.
I was talking to my Japanese friends who read Naruto, and I told them that many American/English readers think Deidara is a girl. When they heard that, they just freaked out like crazy. They were like, "Where the heck did they get that idea from!?"
I even asked other Japanese fans on-line, and they thought that idea was crazy. If Deidara was a girl, at least some Japanese fans will think he is a girl. But no.

-.-'' People, please understand, Deidara is a girl. Well from what i think, from what i've seen, Deidara is a girl. And previously said about Haku being pretty and being a guy, well you see, maybe Haku was gay. But i doubt Deidara is gay because, well, I don't think the Akatsuki would let gay people join their organization. Though, i really don't care whether or not Deidara is a female or a male. My supporting details aren't necessarily correct, and neither is anybody else's. -.-''

..About the whole..'gay' thing..I have yet to find a single LOGICAL female pairing for ANY of the Akatsuki members. (I could pair them with each other easily, just to be wicked.)
My final answer is that Deidara is male, still. Deidara has long hair. Big deal; so do rock stars and hippies. Deidara has a feminine face structure. Every male character I draw has a feminine face structure. He doesn't have girl vibes. And if Deidara IS a girl, then, as my friend said, Deidara would be a VERY butch female for anime. Well, compared to almost..EVERY other not-really-super-tiny-minor-one-arc-minor character in....anything. .___. I dunno. I'm half asleep right now.
Deidara could be male or female, though I DO NOT think he's a girl in any way..there's like a...1% chance of it.

xd OK, well from what I heard when he talked in one of the japanese episodes his voice was uber deep. So I call him him.
I'd doubt they'd have a female character in the Akatsuki though. Since Naruto is very >_>; um, sexist, yeah.

Yeah, supposedly Kishimoto said there would be one.. though I never read the interview or whatever it was myself(can't find it anywhere..), and even if he did say that, he could've changed his mind. Because you're right, Naruto is made to be pretty sexist- almost all the girls(the few that there actually are in the series- like 1/2 the amount of guys in the series..) suck in plain English. The only one that is still a canon character, and doesn't suck- before the 3 year jump anyway- is Temari. And after the jump, they don't show much of her, so maybe she hasn't improved at all which would be sad, so the only one I can say for sure doesn't suck then is Sakura. And just the way that women are portrayed in the series- take Tsunade for example... Yeah, it is realllly sexist, and gets on my nerves. I even wrote a letter to Masashi Kishimoto, about that, and about Deidara. Who knows if he got it though, and even if he did, it's not like he'd care. But yeah, you're right- and so, if Deidara isn't the girl Akatsuki member- which, thanks to all you guys putting forth your arguments, I really do have to say isn't the case(yeah, you've pretty much turned me to believing Dei is a guy.. *sob*), then I really do wonder if there will be a girl member at all.
And wow, I just rambled for like 2 paragraphs about like nothing... sorry!

1. There are no girls in the Akatsuki, there are only guys.
I could see a sign on the rock door, 'No girlz alowd'. xD
2. Deidara refers to himself as a guy.
3. He doesn't have breasts.

But if you think about it in a wierd way, theirs been alot of contreversy about him/her being a guy/girl. Although Kishimoto should've hinted it a little more for us, 'hard-core fans' I think we can hang onto the suspence. IN the end.. only one will be right. ninja

One word. HAKU. And Haku looks more like a girl than Deidara, so yes, I have seen guys that pretty.
The only thing that could prove to me that Deidara is a girl is the fact that he referred to Sasori as 'Sasori-danna.' Roughly, that means 'Husband Sasori', if I remember correctly. Also: I believe that Tayuya spoke in a masculine way, so that could be similar if Deidara is a girl.
However, my final answer is he. (Besides. I drew a fanart of Dei without a shirt, and there is no female anatomy in sight..though, I am going to draw a feminine Deidara. DD: ) what if he is just gay?
