Fadia Stalyr I don't know if that's such a good idea...that was one of the things that turned me off from the GSA at my own school (the main one was that I attended two or three meetings before the straight bashing got to me)....they would play this game at the end of every meeting--a take-off of "Duck, Duck, Goose!" only it was "Gay, Gay, Straight!" For some reason it urked me, because I always saw the Goose as the negative aspect in the game because you got chased.... This is just my personal opinion, if it can get people to stop using "Gay" as a negative at your school, more power to ya! 3nodding Sexual orientation ought not to be used to describe anything but people who are oriented that way...sexually.

While I understand the meaning behind doing that, not to sure if in the long run it'll be a good thing. I'll admit when a friend has said "that's so gay!" I'll look at him/her and say "Dude... thats so straight." in a sarcastic manner.
I usually try and stick to the gay=happy f**=cig/bundle of sticks etc.

I think it's funny, my little brother hardly knows what gay means. He'll say gay instead of stupid. I should try that with him.

BakaTulip I think that's a pretty bad idea. Because while it gets the gay=good association... a good test grade is not homosexual. It's not good for gay to be associated with things that are not people. Unless you are using gay as "Happy" such as "We'll have a gay old time." Well considering that Gay originally ment happy... we are just using it in it's original context.

Eebie LOL blaugh . That idea is so gay! I love it! I don't ever say something's gay in the bad way, but it'd hilarious to say it in a good way, just to confue people rofl . i wouldn't say "that's so straight" so, just cuz it's not nice to insult peoples, as straight as they are talk2hand . But yeah, that idea is awesome lol domokun blaugh rofl Yay.... i thought it was a fun idea!

I still think it will end up with bad connotations, and end up getting your GSA labeled as heterophobic which might work against you.

Whoever decided to use the term, "That's gay.", for stupid things, is, in fact, completely idiotic. I think that people should use "gay" as its actual meaning; happy, homosexual, etc.

Hahaha, we use the term pretty freely, but only as applied to sexuality.
I'm all for it as a prank, though, it might be interesting to observe the effects. As a campaign for change, perhaps not. XD
But aww, don't use "straight" like that, either. Just try the "gay" bit or something. :3

I think it's an interesting experiment, I'm curious to see how the school reacts. Responding to things with "that's so straight" I kinda like, cause though I despise heterophobia, it's a chance for those people negatively giving sexuality that isn't straight a negative or "lame" conotation, to experience what it's like themselves might cause them to stop. What I would be concerned about is retaliaton, remember that as non straight people and straight allies, we're the ones who are oppressed, the oppressors thrive off of rational reasons to be hateful. So be careful. Finally I want to echo what everyone else said, using a word properly could actually have more of an effect then retaliation. I know when anyone said or says to me "that's so gay..." I usually respond to them with "how does_______ make you happy?" they stop think and retreat or try to lash out a witty response, but no harm done to me or them.
Hugs,
Sincerly, Ariel Archaicflame

Draxe It could also light the fuse for many arguments. Quite so, quite so.
I'm with the Draxe, and Tulip. Although it associates "gay" with good things, it's almost insulting ((in a way)) that it's being associated with objects. When I read the first post I automatically was like "Oh...well...I guess being gay makes me an object..." I know you don't mean it that way, and it's more or less trying to reversed the negative frame of mind that the word "gay" has, but it kinda makes it worse in different ways.

i do see what you guys are saying... and i agree.. the way we use gay is as an emotion.... not for an object... after all an object can't be either happy or homosexual can it? so there you go... and about the "straight thing... we basically do that as a joke we don't do it to replace the word "gay".

I'm with Tulip, Draxe, and Raeshi. It's not going to build any bridges, and it might light a few aflame.
Plus, to be honest, it seems a bit... I dunno. Grade-school. sweatdrop

that is a great idea!
my band director told off a student because he said "thats gay!" about something he had gotten in trouble for... she she said "why not say 'thats so hetero' or something?"
