seffy_chan, you should come to the big Barbecue Festival in Lexington, NC at the end of October! It rocks!! whee
In NC they are very serious about their BBQ. Lexington is where most all of the best-Western-Style BBQ cooks learned their stuff! So it's sorta like BBQ Mecca or something I guess.
The Festival lasts just one day, from about 10am to 6pm--but they can get over 200,000 people crammed onto their main street in those 8 hours! biggrin All kinds of good food, music, arts & crafts, & of course lots of BBQ!
Next best thing to the NC State Fair! heart
Why would I go to the North Carolina BBQ fest when I can goto The Kansascity Missouri BBQ fest?? They don't call us cow town for NOTHING. Besides I've got classes in the fall. I don't think my teacher would apriciate me going on a trip that long just to eat BBQ. Especialy when I'd have to take the train or a bus or something. A two or three day trip up and then a two or three day trip back. Yeah.. they would kill me.

Well, if you came that far you certainly should do more than the festival! (Although obviously October would be bad.)
Besides, you can get great BBQ in Lexington anytime...or in my town, which has a BBQ joint that was shown in a Road Show program on TV...maybe Turner South?
Really, you should come to NC in the summer! Either go to the mountains & eat the fried chicken & enjoy the cool green beauty, or go to the Outer Banks & eat the awesome legendary seafood they have out there, & kick back & relax on the beach.

Shouldn't be a 3-day trip here, seffy_chan. I did it as a 2 day trip driving from the NC mtns up to St. Louis to a con once.

I'm not going to goto NC for BBQ! scream I don't even like it that much.
It would be a long trip because I'm not able to drive anywhere. I HAVE to take the train or the bus. Actualy I'm probably not going there untill I've been to the grand canyon, our capital, or really anything else thats important to our history and/or country. Also: I haven't even seen all of my own state and I've only been to three of the neighboring states. neutral Do you see where this is going?

I think I'll just go now & leave you alone. I seem to be getting snapped at a lot which is not what I came here for. I can go to the Sci Fi BB & get yelled at just as easily.
I mean, I did suggest other foods too this time. Aint holding a gun on you & ordering you to go anywhere.

Thats not what I ment for you to think. Your too sensitive. Just cuz I'm too lazy to visit NC. You probably don't want to visit MO to eat food. Or if you don't I bet you could throw a chicken leg and hit somebody that thinks thats the worst Idea in the world (not that I think that about what you sugested).
all I'm saying it quit trying to sell me on it. I can be picky if I want to. I can be lazy if I want to. Nobody was yelling. Its kind of hard to get text to vocalize in the first place.

OK, Sorry--I just don't feel good today & right now I can't eat a lot of these nice things at all because I've got half a root canal in my mouth & I won't get it finished til the end of the month. sad
Definately wouldn't go anywhere just to eat the food myself. If I could get away from work & I went to MO I would eat the food & go see St Louis again. A long time ago--back in the 70's, I think--Our family went on a summer trip across Illinois & Missouri & went to St Louis. I remember the park next to the Arch was still under construction & that we didn't go up in the top of the arch, which really bummed me out. We did go to the St. Louis Zoo though, & I remember enjoying that a lot.
Someday I'd like to go see how all that has changed!
I went to a con in St. Louis in the 90's but had no time to see anything else so I pretty much stayed in the hotel the whole time.

Hedgehog flavoured? Do you know how many diseases they carry! (Though they are sooo cute when they stand up and look like little gnomes with their tiny little legs - like spiky humans! xd ) I'll be honest I don't know. I doubt it. We have branston pickle and cheese flavoured crisps which are DISGUSTING. And ketchup flavoured ones. And all these weird new ones from Walkers... though I assume they're in America too.

Anyway I hope your teeth are better soon. I had two fillings done once. I was drooling all over the place and it was not a pretty sight... Err... Don't know why that would make you feel better - except that I recovered and now can eat happily again.

And jellyfish? Sheesh I feel so boring. All the stuff you lot have posted is wa-ay more interesting than I expected. The most exotic stuff I eat comes from the Indian take-away... and that's mostly chicken disguised in herbs and curry and things. Or occasionally I find weird things in Lidls. But we do not speak of them... ninja

That sounds like some sort of a bun from the Phillipenes.
I have a friend with 2 daughters-in-law from the Phillipenes her sons married & are here now. She went over there for the weddings--I can't remember the name; it's on the south island. But she came back talking about corn ice cream & red bean paste & how she hated grass jelly.
She takes them to a Phillipene grocery in Raleigh sometimes & they have the ice cream there, which she says is delicious.

As I understand it, the crisps were artificially hedgehog-flavored & tested by gypsies (who it was said sometimes ate them) in order to get them to taste right so as to follow the truth in advertising rule.... confused

jellyfish comes from boing half chinese. My grandmother has nothing to do all day so she cooks.
we visit her every week.
so we get food.
weird chinese food.
and if we all eat weird food and you're the only one that eats interesting food, that makes you specialful.

Lidls is a supermarket that sells lots of different foods from all over Europe. Or rather mostly it sells the same sorts of food as all the other stores only their packets are not in English and so this make them cheaper... confused Well it used to have lots more interesting foods but now it mostly has crisps and noodles.

We don't have many interesting foodstores here, especially where I live, so Lidls is the closest we come to it. Also there's something kind of exciting about buying a packet of something that you can't read the label on - it could be ANYTHING!

Britain is a bit backwards where exotic is concerned. Except for our hedgehogs of course. Now that I come to think about it that Gypsy bit sounds sort of familiar... Hmm... I shall look into it. If I find a packet I'll post a photo.

I found this on the internet. I concede defeat. You were right - though it was 1981 so unfortunately I never got a chance to taste them...

Description: In the UK in 1981, Hedgehog Foods Ltd decided, as a joke, to produce Hedgehog flavoured crisps (potato chips). To everyone's surprise, the crisps were a huge success.

Hedgehog flavoured crisps were actually flavoured with pork fat and no hedgehogs were used in the manufacturing process. Consequently, it wasn't long before Hedgehog Foods Ltd was in court (1982), up against the Office of Fair Trading, on a charge of false advertising.

Bizarrely, a settlement was finally reached when Mr Lewis, of Hedgehog Foods, interviewed gypsies who actually did eat baked hedgehogs, to ascertain the flavour of hedgehogs. Mr Lewis then commissioned a flavourings firm to duplicate the flavour as closely as possible and changed the labels from "hedgehog flavoured" to "hedgehog flavour" and all interests were satisfied!

Flavored with pork fat, huh?
Sounds like the UK equivalent of Pork Rinds. (BLAH!)
Pork Rinds are gross! Yet they are a popular snack item in the South, at least. I call it a "guy food"--something guys sit around scarfing while watching NASCAR races or US football or basketball or baseball....
A friend of mine says at those times she just throws "orange food" at the guys in her house & leaves them to chomping & yelling & throwing crumbs everywhere. This is stuff like cheese puffs, nacho chips, & yes, pork rinds.

It sounds like something from 'steve, don't eat it.'
Incidentally, if you want the site for that, it'sSteve, don't eat it
really funny.
