The silence wasn't at all welcome.

Since her arrival, the rabbit child had done nothing but make noise, and now that Green had finally managed to put the baby to sleep she was constantly peeking her head in Rose's bedroom door, checking to make sure that she was still there and safely so.

The wind howled outside and the old, cosy farmhouse she called home groaned in protest. Thunder rumbled overhead and Green watched out the little window in the hallway as lightning flashed across the night sky.

The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end as a feeling of trepidation swelled within her heart. Green swallowed, reached for the door handle and pushed gently. The old door creaked open for what must have been the sixty-fifth time that night.

Dressed in a bright purple t-shirt that hung off her shoulder and reached below her knees, Green tip-toed towards the crib where Rose slept. The light that spilled through the open door from the hallway played across the bunny child's face. Rose's little yellow ear twitched in her sleep and a giggle slipped from inbetween her mother's lips.

"Hello, little one," Green whispered and listened to the steady breathing of her sleeping baby.

It was so hard to imagine that such a little body could make so much noise. Green recalled that afternoon after she'd made that fateful trip to Durem, when Rose had screamed in her ear for (what seemed to be) hours. She wasn't sure that she'd ever be able to hear properly in her left ear again.

There was no telling how long she stood there, admiring every little perfect detail of Rose's adorable face. Only when the storm ended and the sun began to rise did Green finally check to make sure the blanket was properly tucked in under the baby's chin before dragging her tired feet to her own room.

If Green had known that Rose always woke with the sun, perhaps she wouldn't have spent the entire night gaurding the baby.

Mere moments after her mother had retired to her own bed, Rose stretched and used her big, bunny feet to kick her blankets off her body. The rush of cool air the met her yellow fur excited a small, relieved sigh from the child. It had been getting far too hot under there.

Her chocolate brown eyes scanned what she could see of her room through the bars of her crib. The lavender walls brought a smile to the baby's face and she giggled.

The loud and cheerful sound wafted into the bedroom across the hall where a purple haired girl stirred. Nyx, who had always been a very light sleeper, slowly sat up in bed and turned to glare at the source of the sound. She had never been a morning person, and the sound of others being so disgustingly cheerful so bloody early was enough to make the teenager want to tear her ears off.

...but she liked her ears.

Ah. What a dilemma.

Wait a minute...

Why should she have to cause such harm to herself when the more logical course of action was currently gurgling and making cute baby noises across the hall? Nyx yawned and stretched, relishing the way the muscles of her back relaxed simultaneously. With a sinister grin swiftly presenting itself on her face, Nyx slipped her feet into her fuzzy blue slippers and tip-toed into the new baby's room.

"Ma would kill you, you know."

Unfazed by her little sister's tone, Nyx rolled her eyes and gently lifted Rose out of the crib. The baby giggled and clapped her hands in response.

"I wasn't going to hurt her," Nyx sighed honestly and cradled the baby in her arms, turning to stick her tongue out at Marie.

"Of course," Marie shrugged indifferently and readjusted her cloak so that it properly hid her right hand. With a little sigh she turned aorund and cast one last glance over her shoulder, "We should have pancakes for breakfast."

"As long as I'm not cooking," Nyx scoffed and playfully bounced the baby up and down in her arms, causing giggles of glee to erupt from Rose's body.

"Take her downstairs before she wakes Ma up," Marie whispered and then headed back to her own room.

Annoyed with her sister, Nyx cursed under her breath.

She'd never heard a word like that before. Rose gazed up at the purple haired girl with a quizical look on her face. After a few moments pause, she finally decided that she quite liked the girl, gave a hoot of delight and used one of her little hands to stuff a lock of purple hair into her mouth.

Nyx yelped in pain and tried to tug her hair out of the baby's grasp.

"Little bugger," she growled when she finally overcame her foe and angrily flipped her hair over her shoulder, out of Rose's reach.

Rose's face contorted into one of outrage and shock. Nyx felt the babe stiffen in her arms and panic coursed through her entire body when Rose opened her mouth and let out a long, piercing cry. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no!

Nyx's eyes widened with desperation and the teenager searched Roses' room for anything that might put a smile back on the bunny child's face. Finally, she spotted something that might just do the trick. With an exasperated sigh, she plucked the kangaroo plushie off the baby's dresser and wiggled it in front of Rose's face.

What was it? Rose's cries had ceased long enough for her to get a good look at the funny looking plushie in front of her. The bunny child tilted her head to the side and examined the kangaroo with a look of mild interest. Pretty. Her chocolate brown eye's locked with Nyx's desperate purple ones. Then, she smiled and snatched the kangaroo away from her older sister.

Pleased, for the moment, Rose sighed and nibbled on the plushie's tail.

Group RP: A Trip to the Jungle

Date: May 9 2006
Satus: Incomplete
Location: Jungle Room
Participants: Green & Rose and Kanilea & Aladon

Kanilea
Kanilea?s hand was intertwined with the bat boy?s as she entered the jungle filled room.

Aladon stopped to stare at the oddity that put the outside on the inside.

Kanilea pulled at Aladon?s hand, ?It?s alright, come on, don?t you want to play on the playground.? She smiled and gave him a little pat on the back sending him off in the direction of the slide. Then she sat down on the bench and opened up one of the documents and started to read. She could watch Aladon have fun and get a little work done, what could be better.

Aladon over his original confusion, though still not quite sure of what was going on in the room, began to make his way towards the playground, not sure of what to play with or on first.

Green_Eyes
Green had been a very curious child with a passion for exploring, traits that had stayed with her these many years. The young, blonde woman had spent the past few hours wandering amongst the many rooms of the HQ and getting a feel for the place. So far, she found herself immensely impressed with everything she'd seen.

Upon entering the jungle room, Green blinked and Rose, who lounged in a stroller, stopped chewing on the plushie kangaroo's tail for a few moments to examine the room with awe-filled eyes.

Her ears twitched and having grown dissinterested in the plushie for the time being, Rose let it fall to the floor. Green clicked her tongue and picked it up, tucking it into the stroller beside the bunny child.

Kanilea
Kanilea stuck a small piece of cinnamon into her mouth, sucking on the sweet taste as she flipped over the page. Adjusting her gaze to find her boy, her sight fell on the two newcomers to the room, smiling a hello, and a little awkwardly with the sweet in her mouth, ?Hey there.? With a wave, she was trying to remember the person?s name, but had a feeling that she hadn?t meet the two before.

Hearing his mother?s voice Aladon stopped digging through the sand to look up. Seeing the new child he smiled and became interested though maintained his distance.

Green_Eyes
Rose's ear twitched at the sound of the stranger's voice and the baby twisted in her stroller to face the speaker, struggling against the buckle that held her in place. Her efforts were useless, but that wasn't about to stop her from trying.

"Hello," Green greeted the other woman with a wave of her hand, giggling when her daughter continued to fight her restraints. She manouvered the strolled so that it was facing the other woman and rolled it in her direction.

Finally! Rose let out a thankful sigh and relaxed back into the stroller, pleased that she could see the stranger. Her gaze landed upon the little bat boy who stood at a distance and giggled a hello.

She liked people!

"My name's Green," Green was saying as she stopped the stroller in front of the bench and settled down onto it, beside Kanilea.

Group RP: Woo

Date: May 13 2006
Satus: Complete
Location: Playground
Participants: Green, Rose and Lenore

Glass Crow
Lenore sat alone on one of the playground swings, kicking at the sand with her eternally bare feet in sullen boredom. She was really quite lonely - her family was gone for the day, off to work and school. Even her doll Sadako was busy elsewhere.

"That's sad, bein' ditched by a doll," Len said to herself. Staring hard down at the sand, she willed a faint breeze that was blowing past to turn into a little dust devil, kicking up and whirling frantically like a miniature tornado. She smiled at the sight of it despite her mood, watching it go.

Green_Eyes
Green hummed quietly to her self as she entered the playground, pushing the stroller that held Rose ahead of her. So far it had been an incredibly long, tiring day and the young, blonde woman wanted nothing more than to put her feet up and relax.

The bunny child nibbled on the head of the kangaroo plushe she'd grown so terribly fond of, as her little mind replayed the events of the day. Her eyes swept across the playground, in search of somebody to play with.

Glass Crow
Lenore grew tired of her improvised amusement and let the dust devil fade off, sending sand in a glittering cloud over the playground and onto the lawns. She started swinging a bit, angling her arms carefully so her wings wouldn't get caught in the chain. It wasn't until she was nearly going over the bar with the force of her swinging that she noticed the two new people. Instantly wanting to meet them, Lenore pushed herself off the high swing without even thinking, landing hard on the ground in a crouch.

"Heya!" she called cheerfully to the new people, getting up and dusting off skinned knees. "I'm Lenore, who're you?"

Green_Eyes
Green was too tired to be startled by the girl's sudden appearance. They were in a playground, after all, and children did tend to spend much of their time in playgrounds.

She smiled sleepily at the girl and introduced them, "I'm Green and this here, is Rose."

She gestured to the bunny child who was currently beaming up at Lenore, pleased to see a new face. The kangaroo plushie was momentarily forgotten at her side, and the baby reached out towards the older girl with impatient arms.

Glass Crow
Len nodded eagerly at the introductions, dusting off her dirty and slightly torn skirt and grinning.

"Nice to meet you. Heya, Rose. I like your ears," she said to the baby. Kneeling down to the child's eye level, she waved at the little girl before looking up at Green again. "So, you guys're new around here, huh?"

Green_Eyes
Rose giggled and waved back at the girl with a chubby hand. Her ears twitched against the side of her head and mumbling something incoherent, Rose shoved one of them in her mouth and nibbled on the end.

"Nice to meet you to," Green nodded and then yawned in response to Lenore's question, "We are new, yes. We spent the enter day exploring the grounds. I'm very much exhausted."

She sighed and impatiently plucked the baby's ear from inside her mouth. Annoyed, Rose peered up at Green and then pointedly stuffed the tips of both ears into her mouth.

Glass Crow
Lenore snorted at the child's defiance. She glanced up at Green, grinning again.

"Yeah, the place is huge - had like a massive growth spurt a couple months ago. Those mountains over there," she stood and pointed, "-weren't there before. Half the forest wasn't there before, either. It got ridiculously huge."

She looked out at the mountains for a moment before turning back to Green.

"Any time you guys want a tour or somethin', me and my family'd be happy to show you around. There's my mum, her brother, and this guy Ethan who just kinda lives with us now." she said, ticking off family members off her fingers. "How many people live with you? Or... or is it just you and Rose?"

Green_Eyes
Green studied the mountains and the forest with stunned eyes. They'd appeared over a period of months? Really, now, that seemed incredibly unlikely.

But, she'd been a witness to stranger things.

Wondering if Lenore might have an explanation for the sudden growth spurt she asked, "Do you know what happened?"

"A tour would be wonderful," she grinned at the girl and then began to count the various members of her family in her head.

"There's... let me see... Nyx, y'hm and Marie and Eve... So, including Rose and me... that's five."

Rose wasn't at all bothered by the fact that she couldn't partake in the conversation. The baby gurgled happily and rediscovered the kangaroo plushie she'd previously tossed aside. She nibbled on its tail while she watched and listened to her mother speak with the new girl.

Glass Crow
Lenore nodded, biting at her lip in thought as she tried to remember what had happened.

"Well... it just all kinda happened like a big explosion, sort of. We were just minding our own business, and then, bang! Bigger building, more land for the grounds.... pretty cool. Only took a couple minutes." she said matter-of-factly. "Anyways, my house is the one with the door that's all scratched up and has lots of dents 'cause it's gotten kicked in a couple times. You can come over! Mum likes visitors, I do to, and we can, er... tour stuff."

"Wow... five people... that must be nice! Rose must have nice brothers an' sisters, then," she added a little enviously. Not for the first time she wished privately for a sibling of her own - someone to hang around with when her friends weren't readily available.

Green_Eyes
A couple of seconds? Impossible! Green gaped at Lenore, completely awestruck. Usually, it took thousands of years for mountains and forests to grow. If the girl was speaking the truth, which Green had no reason to doubt, something else; something amazing was at work here.

She took a few more minutes to study the area, taking it all in and registering it to memory. Perhaps a bit of research was in order.

"I'd love to meet your mother," she grinned.

"Well, they've all been good to her so far. But, I'm not sure how long that'll last," Green chuckled, "Sisters tend to fight a lot. When Rose grows... things might not be as peaceful."

Little bits and pieces of their conversation were begining to register with Rose. The mention of her sisters peaked her interest and the bunny child's ears twitched.

So far, she liked Nyx the best. It had been she who'd given her the kangaroo plushie, after all.

Glass Crow
"You'd probably like her. She's... well. She's Mum." Len said, grinning a bit shyly. How could one possibly explain Crow? She didn't bother to try - Green could find out for herself.

"Well... you never know. They could all get along an' stuff." Len said, before thinking over her reply and laughing at herself a bit. "Well, it's a nice thought, anyway. They got earmuffs at the store, iffen you don't want headaches once they start shouting at each other," she added jokingly.

Glancing down at Rose, Len eyed the strange toy she had and squatted down next to her, trying to get a look at it.

"Whatcha got there, Rose? Looks kinda like you. Kinda."

Green_Eyes
Green laughed at the way Lenore summed up her mother. She felt that she and the little girl didn't have much in common, for Green found it quite easy to describe her own mother;

She was a pest. Plain and simple.

"I'll keep my fingers crossed," Green nodded, "and I'll definately keep those earmuffs in mind. There's a good chance they'll come in handy."

Rose stopped chewing on the plushie's tail and studied Lenore with a puzzled gaze, slowly piecing together what the older girl had said.

"Woo!" she exclaimed proudly and held the thoroughly chewed, slobber covered plushie out for Lenore to see.

Glass Crow
Lenore tilted her head to one side, poking at the "Woo" curiously.

"Oh, I see..." she said to Rose, smiling encouragingly. "Very pretty, Rose. Nice and...er, spitty. You must really like it. Hello, Woo." she added, pretending to wave to the toy.

Lenore didn't even dare imagine what Sadako would have done to her if she'd ever used the temperamental doll as a chew toy. Most likely she'd be lacking half her teeth.

Green_Eyes
"Woo!" she insisted stubbornly and shook the plushie, wanting Lenore to take it in her arms and give it the attention it deserved. It didn't matter that Lenore had waved at Woo. She was sharing him with her.

Green laughed tiredly and a kind expression settled onto her face, "You don't have to take it, Lenore. I've been meaning to throw it in the wash, but she won't let it go long enough for me to get my hands on it."

Glass Crow

Looking at Woo uncertainly, then glancing up at Green, Len shrugged slightly.

"Well, I don't wanna be rude..."

Taking the stuffed toy delicately out of Rose's hands, Len patted its slightly damp fur investigatively. After a moment, she smiled and gave it back.

"Cool toy, Rose! I'd offer to share mine, but she bites," Len said, grinning. She liked this little girl a lot all ready, and felt a little bad for some reason that she had nothing to share. Digging into her skirt pockets and feeling around for something, anything she could offer, Len grunted with annoyance when all she could find was lint. After a moment's consideration, she suddenly brightened with an idea.

"I know what I can share with Rose," she said to the baby, and without hesitation pulled out one of her wing feathers. Seperated from her body, the metal feather's razor sharp edges visibly dulled, turning harmless. Lenore smiled brightly and held out the feather to Rose.

"Here! A shiny thing for Rose!" she said, pleased with her idea.

Green_Eyes
Green was torn between laughing at the little girl or taking pity on her. Not even Rose's sisters could be bothered enough to touch the soaking wet plushie.

She was about to protest that it wouldn't be rude at all when Lenore actually took the toy. This time she couldn't hold back the giggle.

Rose was delighted when the older girl finally decided to treat Woo with the love and attention he deserved. She gurgled merrily at Lenore while she fished in her pockets for something, Rose could only imagine what, and came out empty handed. Then, she clapped her hands with glee when Lenore handed her the harmless feather and reached for it. Her movements were stopped by her mother's hand.

"Its not sharp, is it?" Green asked softly, examining the shiny feather through narrowed eyes. She had always been particularly protective of her children and while she didn't suspect that Lenore would intentionally harm Rose, Green felt that she had to be certain. Just in case.

Annoyed, Rose frowned and tried to swat her mother's hand away so should could take the gift Lenore offered. Green ignored her daughter and kept the hand in place.

Glass Crow
Lenore smiled quietly, fingers exploring the notch in her wing where the feather had once been.

"Nah, it's perfectly safe. As soon as they fall off me, they go dull. I dunno why," she said. "Though one time, a lil' of my blood stayed on one, and it stayed sharp until it got wiped clean. Weird, huh?"

Pleased almost as much with this biological oddity as she was her gift, Lenore grinned up at Green.

"Are you special like that? Mum and her brother are special, kinda sorta. Ethan isn't. He says he's the only normal one in our house," she informed Green solemnly.

Green_Eyes
"Not weird," Green shook her head and a pleased smile danced on her lips, "Its lucky and good."

However, she was still a tad wary of the feather. It wasn't that she didn't trust Lenore but, from her experiences, little girls did have a way of exagerating things. She took the feather first and examined it (for good measure) and then, finally deciding that it was safe enough, she handed it to Rose who wrapped her chubby little hands around it eagerly.

Green winced momentarily and then answered Lenore's question when she realised that no harm was going to come to her baby.

"No," she chuckled, "I'm as normal as normal can get."

She paused and chewed on her bottom before speaking again, "Do you think Rose might be special? What do you think she might be able to do?"

The most important question here was;

What did it do?

Rose stared at Lenore's feather quizzically, glancing at the sharp ones that were still a part of her wings every once in awhile. The feather she held in her hands wasn't like the others and therefore, Rose decided that it was the best of all.

The bunny child giggled and gnawed on it.

Glass Crow
Len shrugged lightly.

"Huh, I dunno... what can rabbits do?" she asked herself, thinking hard. Chewing at her lip, she knelt down next to Rose and studied the little girl hard.

"Hmm... well... maybe she could use her ears as wings're something," Len offered, still looking the girl over and then grinning. "Rabbits like to burrow, so maybe she's got an Earth alignment or somethin'. You never know."

Standing and brushing herself off yet again, Len ruffled Rose's hair and curtsied politely to Green.

"It was really nice meeting you," she said. "I gotta go, but maybe you can stop over sometime iffen you're lonely or wanna hang out. I could babysit, that kind of thing," she added, grinning.

Green_Eyes
Green examined Rose too and saw her baby in an entirely new light. She'd never considered that a child so small might have some kind of magical ability, and, if magic worked like she imagined it did; wouldn't whatever ability Rose had become more and more powerful as she grew?

"It was nice to meet you, too," she smiled and returned the curtsy. Green rushed to ask her one more question before Lenore could leave.

"Do you know when your gifts first started to show? I mean, how old were you?"

Rose's eyes widened in surprise. She was hardly capable of understanding bits and pieces of Lenore's and Green's conversation but that didn't matter. Their actions spoke volumes.

The pretty bird girl was leaving!

Rose frowned and clutched the feather she'd been given in her hand, having not liked the taste or texture of it enough to continue to chew on it (she did have her limits) and waved good-bye.

Glass Crow
Caught off guard by the question, Lenore paused and thought hard. When had her powers started to manifest? She kicked at the grass pensively as she tried to remember.

"I...don't really know," she admitted finally. "I started using them once I grew up into a kid. When I was little, I'd sort of...make things happen, once in a while. Like breezes knocking stuff over or shadows liftin' off the floor after me. I never meant to do it, it just happened."

Shrugging, she tugged at the razor feathers tied in her hair in thought.

"Maybe it's different for Rose. None of us are the same - maybe she'll get 'em early, maybe not at all. You never know," Len said. Kneeling down one last time, she beeped Rose's nose with something like affection.

"But if you get Air like me... maybe I could teach you how to fly," she said cheerfully. Getting up again, she waved to the pair and headed back towards HQ.

"See you later, then!"

A delighted squeal erupted from the bunny child and she pointed eagerly at the kitchen window. The swift movement knocked Green's hand away from Rose's giggling mouth and the spoon and the bowl of baby food splattered to the floor. Frustrated, Green grumbled and turned to see what the excitement was about.

There was nothing there. Her brow knotted with confusion.

Worried, Green cast a sideways glance at the baby. Rose blinked at her and then looked to the window again. She laughed and slapped her hands against the table of the highchair.

With a shake of her head, Green collected the bowl and spoon, dumped them in the sink and returned with a wet cloth. While she cleaned up the mess of baby food she vaguely wondered why it had to be such a disgusting and pale color. A part of her wasn't at all shocked that Rose had refused to eat the liquid peas.

The entire time, Rose giggled insanely. At one point, snot flew out her nose and with a chuckle, Green wiped it away with the bib that was wrapped loosely around the baby's neck. Snot free and unphased, Rose leaned forwards in her seat and tried to get a better look out the window.

There was a strange noise, similar to that of a dog's barking, but not quite right.

Troubled, Green went to the window and searched the vast farmyard for any sign of whatever might have been causing Rose's glee. Something blonde and something purple passed into her line of vision for just a moment and with a sudden realization, Green flung open the window and leaned over the side.

"What're you two doing?" she demanded. Marie and Nyx -with a blush and a smirk- stood slowly and stepped out from their hiding place. Nyx tried to catch Marie's eye, but the small girl ignored her and crossed her arms.

"Rose was giggling away over there," Green gestured in the direction of the bunny child with a wild wave of her hand, "and I was worried she was hallucinating... Or... Or something. What were you doing that made her so happy, anyways? Mind you, she's almost always happy... I've never seen a happier baby in my life-

Nyx cleared her throat to end her mother's pointless rambling and waved a puppet covered hand in Green's face. She squeazed and a high, mechanical barking came from it.

"Oh!" Green sighed and smacked her hand against her forehead, "I should have guessed."

"Marie's got the cat," Nyx said and scratched her nose.

"The cat was always my favorite," Green nodded and looked at the little girl. Marie smiled weakly and waved her left hand to show off the puppy that was as equally old and pathetic looking as the dog.

After a small pause Green asked, "Where'd you find those?"

"Marie found them in a box down in the basement," Nyx announced. Green looked to the smaller girl for confirmation. Marie shrugged.

"Its dark down there!" Green protested, shocked that Marie, of all her children, was the only one who dared venture into the darkness of their horrible basement. She had yet to get a proper light fixture down there!

"It is," Marie giggled and handed her puppet over to Green who took it with a smile. She could recall moments from her past when she and her brother had played with them. Puppet shows had been her favorite childhood game.

"There are more, somewhere," Green spoke thoughtfully and searched her memory for any clue as to where she'd put them as Nyx tossed her the dog. She caught it with ease and mentioned that her brother had taken the dragon puppet, for it had been his favorite, before waving the girls off.

Immediately upon Green's return to the highchair Rose, who had been fussing for the last three minutes and wasn't at all interested in food anymore, lunged for the puppets in Green's arms.

With a laugh Green gave them to the bunny child and Rose, beaming from ear to ear, stuffed the dog's tail into her mouth.

"I really should clean those before you get sick," Green sighed, snatched the cat up and moved to take the dog from Rose. The baby shook her head wildly in disagreement and smacked Green's hands away.

"None of that," Green snapped and gently tugged the puppet away. Shocked, Rose threw her head back and wailed.

"Hush," Green rolled her eyes and pushed the newly cleaned kangaroo plushie towards the bunny child. Rose sniffed and grudgingly took the toy but stubbornly refused to chew on it.

Dear Journal,

After thoroughly cleaning the puppets Nyx and Marie discovered and giving the to Rose to play with I did a bit of hunting, too. I detest venturing into the darkness of my basement for any reason and it was pure curiosity and the comfort of a flashlight in my hand that finally caused me to wander down those horrible, creaky steps. After getting over my fear I managed to sift through all of the storage and find the box I'd been looking for.

I recovered several other, well-worn puppets.

And now, after a cycle in the washing machine Peppy the cat, Cleo the dog, MooMoo the cow, Sophie the sheep and Eli the giraffe are all back together again. I'm amazed by how much Rose enjoys them. At first, she was mesmerized by Cleo. The dog was the only one of the puppets that made noises but now, she has taken a liking to the giraffe.

Eli is forever attached to her little chubby hand and while Rose hasn't forgotten about Woo, I can imagine Eli taking the kangaroo plushie's place in her heart.

I've been considering gathering my older girls together and setting up some kind of puppet show for Rose. I wonder if she'd enjoy it.

Curiously,
Green

Group RP: Retta and Rose

Date: June 22 2006

Location: Swimming Pool
Participants: Green & Rose and Haze, Retta, Elias and Habi

Green_Eyes

It had been so long since she'd been swimming. In fact, Green couldn't even recall the last time she'd even considered wearing a bathing suit. After that dreadful and embarassing incident a few years ago the mere thought of dipping into a pool brought a blush to her cheeks.

However, she'd realised that she couldn't let her inhibitions jeapordize her children's chances to experience something so wonderful. So, after much thought she'd finally decided that it would be okay to take Rose swimming.

This time her bathing suit did not have any strings attached.

The blonde woman sighed and gently lifted Rose from her carrier. The baby was dressed in a pale lavender suit abd bright orange waterwings. On her left hand was a large, beat up puppet that was barely ditinguishable as a giraffe.

With the baby in her arms, Green made her way towards the shallow end of the pool.

Huni Pi
There was something to be said about swimming in water that had not been magically cleaned. And as far as Haze was concerned, none of it were good things. She groaned that the smell of chlorine would take forever to get out, that and even her second charge wanted to have a go at swimming.

Haze no longer brought Elias around in a stroller, he had the unfortunate luck to always end up with a defective stroller. Of course the Silarian couldn't help but suspect her first charge had something to do with them. Dressed in a two piece suit that was more concerned with accentuating her curves than covering skin, Haze entered the pool area with Elias, Habi and of course Retta.

Retta sensed the suspicious thoughts in her guardians head and she flashed a sweet, innocent smile at Haze. She even twirled around in her brand new pink frilly bathing suit. Retta wasn't about to do anything to ruin her chances at swimming. Her thoughts were interrupted when she spotted another Mishap.

"Haze, someone." She pointed, suddenly hiding behind her guardian's legs.

Green_Eyes
Green had somehow managed to to climb down the ladder and support Rose in her arms at the same time. Her swift descent hadn't allowed time to test the water and she gasped as the cool water sloshed around her hips.

Rose was a bit shocked by the sudden temperature change and wriggled in her mother's arms. Green struggled to hold on and rearanged Rose in her arms so that the baby's back was held securely against her chest.

Afterwards, Rose was the first to spot the strangers and the baby lifted up a puppet-covered arm and waved at the newcomers in that clumsy way that babies do.

"Hello," Green said with a kind smile on her lips.

Over the course of the summer Green had found it increasingly difficult to put Rose to sleep. The baby always insisted on going to bed and waking up with the sun. Therefore, Green's sleep schedule had become very irregular and her mood was likewise affected. Her older children did their very best to avoid their mother whenever they could for none of them (save for Nyx who had always had a bit of an attitude) dared to challenge her authority when she was moody.

"You're impossible," Nyx had growled at her mother only that evening after Green had rudely pointed out that Marie ought to spend more time with the family instead of, well, wherever she was. The poor, little girl had looked up from her bowl of soup with a hurt expression but didn't reply and merely continued to eat her supper.

It was for the well-being of her children and the relationships she shared with each of them that had Green trying out and testing new techniques that would put Rose to sleep earlier.

She'd sung to the child until her voice was hoarse and her throat felt raw. She'd sat down in a rocking chair and rocked the baby only to have dozens of strands of her long hair tugged out. Hell, she'd even tried buckets of warm milk.

Unfortunately, nothing had worked.

Now, Green was working at her fourth and so far unsuccessful attempt.

The light that streamed in through the lone window in Rose's little room made reading easy. However, Green was having difficulty getting the baby to pay very close attention to the story of Hanzel and Gretel. Rose gurgled, cooed and chewed on her little fist with joy. Her big brown eyes danced across the room and the pictures in the storybook that Green showed to her every time she finished a page. However, the bunny child remained completely immune to the effect Green hoped the various stories would have had on her.

To her it seemed like her mother had been droning on and on about nothing for hours.

Suddenly, the sound of Green's monotonous voice was replaced by another, entirely foreign one. Rose's ears twitched in the direction of the noise as the little gears inside her head tried to determine the name of the sound.

Moments later, her bedroom door was opened and Rose twisted her head around to welcome whoever had entered. Marie stood in the doorway. Pleased to see her older sister, Rose giggled a hello and then frowned when Marie put a finger to her lips and told the toddler to 'shhh'.

Why should she 'shhh'? What was 'shhhshhing', anyways?

Rose stared at Marie with a confused expression. What was going on here?

At the moment Marie was gently poking their mother in the shoulder.

"She snores so loud," Marie chuckled and exited the room, returning moments later with two blankets tucked under her arms and a couple of pins clamped between her teeth.

She draped one blanket around her mother and used the other one to block the light from the sun. After a few moments of struggling and one curse (a habit she'd picked up from Nyx) Marie's task was finally finished.

Rose was stunned into silence by the sudden darkness that consumed her bedroom.

"There," Marie sighed and leaned over the edge of the cradle in order to kiss her baby sister on the forehead, "maybe you'll both get some sleep."

From under the front door of the apartment, a sealed envelope slid through and across the ground. On it's surface was scrawled "To Green and Rose" in indigo, spidery-like script.

Dear Green and Rose,
As I’m sure you know very well, and as one of our infirmary notes stated, Rose is quite the little nibbler. Being mainly rabbit, this is understandable but seeing as Rose is growing older, it’s time to take control of that chewing habit before it becomes a real problem. You do not necessarily need to stop it… But well, you are her guardian and must set up the appropriate boundaries and teach her right from wrong. We know you will do well. Good luck.

Toddler Quest Part I of III

August 13, 2005

Dear Journal,

I recieved a rather troubling letter from the Magical Mishap staff about Rose's nibbling habits. Recently, I've become particularly worried about the various objects that Rose loves to put in her mouth. I don't know what I'd do if someday Rose decided she'd like to see what a knife or fork tastes and feels like. The thought of what such sharp objects might do to her little mouth makes me, as her mother, want to curl up into a ball and weep.

What if she discovers some type of poinsonous plant outside one day and chooses to nibble on that? What if she happened to find her way into the bathroom and started to chew on the plunger handle? What if, while, visiting a friend, she figures that the sofa would make a rather nice chewtoy?

I know, I know, worst case scenarios. But, at the very least, she could develop some very nasty throat problems due to the number of germs that like to collect on dirty things, particularly dirty things covered in slobber. I've got to do something!

But what?

If I'm lucky, she'll just eventually grow tired of nibbling things.

I could try to ween her out of the habit. Although, she is a bunny child and because of that I doubt that she will ever be able to resist the 'chewing temptation.'

Gah. What a problem.

As much as I hate to say it; I think I'm going to have to call Debra.

Dammit.

Frustratedly yours,
Green

Phoning her mother was a rare occasion that called for band-aids and aspirin. So, you can imagine, that they weren't things that Green particularly enjoyed. In fact, she was using her mother as a last, desperate option.

Her bunny child couldn't be chewing on random objects for the rest of her life. Oh no, it just wouldn't do. Green imagined that the bigger Rose got, the bigger those random objects would be as well. Although, she hoped that by the time Rose became a child common sense would tell her that nibbling on a piece of furniture just wasn't done.

Still, there was no harm in trying to stifle the habit now. The blonde woman could recall reading somewhere that children catch on to things and learn faster at young ages and there was no time like the present to test it out.

"Quit chewing on that, Rose!" Green ordered the babe who she could see through the doorway that led from the living room into the hallway where she currently stood with the phone pressed up to her ear.

Rose was nestled comfortably inside her playpen, chewing on the sides so incessantly that Green was worried that the netting would tear.

When Rose didn't stop Green let out a frustrated groan and turned her back to the babe.

"Come on, ma," she whispered into the recieving end of the phone, "Pick up the ph-

'Hello?'

The somewhat snotty voice on the other line was undoubtably her mother's.

"Hello, ma," Green said quietly, hardly eager for the inevitable nagging to begin.

'Oh, its you, dear,' Mrs. Bachman sounded about as glad to hear her daughter's voice as Green had been to call the woman.

"I need some advice," Green sighed and slowly began to spin around on the spot, getting herself thoroughly twisted inside the phone cord.

'Oh, really?'

"Yes."

Green squeazed her eyes shut. Why had she even bothered to call? Debra Bachman was just as likely to help her out as she was to jump off of a moving train.

The familar sound of material tearing pierced through the silence and started Green so that she jumped and turned her head to peer at Rose. The baby had managed to chew a hole through the side of the playpen but, unfortunately, that wasn't the extent of the damage.

The hole was so large that, after Rose had tugged on the sides of her creation, it had travelled along one of the other sides of the playpen and left a gaping slit.

Rose grinned up at her mother and pointed, proudly, at her success.

"Rose, no!" Green growled and, still very much wrapped up in the phone cord, took a step towards the babe and promptly crashed to the floor.

'Green!' her mother's voice was filled with panic and genuine concern this time, 'How are you? Is everything alright? Should I call 911?'

"I'm fine, ma," Green sighed into the phone and desperately tried to entangle herself from the cord. It was to no avail. The cord was curled around her in such a way that she wouldn't be able to escape without some type of help.

'You are not,' Mrs. Bachman insisted on the other line, 'A mother always knows when her child is in need of some kind of help. That is why they call it mother's intuition, you know.'

"Well, then," Green said slowly, "I do need some help from you."

'What is it?'

"My baby, Rose, your granddaughter, likes to chew on things. In fact, its gotten so bad that I'm worried that it is a habit she'll never be able to get rid of."

'The solution to that is simple, my dear,' Mrs. Bachman replied sharply, 'vinegar.'

"I'm not following?"

'Simply soak whatever it is that you wouldn't like her too chew in vinegar. I doubt you'll be able to find a baby that likes the stuff.'

"Are you sure it'll work?" Green's spirit was lightening by the moment. Why hadn't she thought of that?

'It worked when we were trying to get you to stop sucking your thumb.'

Green wasn't sure what to make of that. Instead of complaining she shook her head and smiled into the reciever.

"Thanks ma."

'Of course.'

"I've got to go here. Rose has gotten herself into some trouble that I have to clean up."

'Of course.'

"Goodbye."

Green waited for the reassuring click of the phone being hung up on the other end and the dialtone before she opened her mouth as wide as she could and bellowed;

"Nyx! Come here. I'm tangled up in the phone cord and I can't get out!"

She cast a look at the damage that Rose had caused, sighed and bellowed again, "Bring some duct tape!"

~

Vinegar was a harmless liquid that made a rather handy cleaning tool. That was something Green had learned from her father before he'd passed away and it was something that she'd lived by for most of the years of her life. So, the supply of the stuff in her home wasn't at all small.

Sporting some rather ugly bruises from her fall the day before that was the fault of one of Rose's most recent chewing escapades, Green was more determined now than ever to put an end to the baby's dangerous (well, in Green's case, anyway) habit. It didn't really matter that the poor child would probably never like the taste of vinegar. This was something that had to be taken care of.

For both their sakes.

Rose was strapped securely into her high chair and blinking across at the various objects on the kitchen table with innocent curiosity. A strange odor, something completely unfamilar to the bunny child's nose, seemed to be wafting off of each of them. What was her mother up to?

On the kitchen table sat Rose's favorite plushie, the kangaroo she'd named Woo, a hand puppet, the feather Lenore had given Rose, several Barbie doll sized pieces of furniture, two strings of wire and a single wooden board.

Green had dunked everything but the kangaroo plushie and the had puppet in vinegar and she hoped that the texture, look and feel of all the other things would keep the child from chewing on them in the future.

"Here, Rose," She said softly, feeling just a tad guilty for submitting her child to such a bitter taste, as she handed handed Lenore's feather over to the baby.

Rose considered the feather in her hands for a few moments, and then, after recognizing it, promptly stuck it in her mouth. She gnawed on it and then, eyes wide, spit out and shook it angrily at her mother.

It didn't taste at all like she remembered it too. Hmmph. Disgusting.

Green couldn't help but grin at the child as she took the feather away from her, placed it back on the table and then tenderly held a bottle filled with water (to wash the horrible taste away) up to the baby's mouth. Rose suckled on it eagerly and then whimpered when Green took it away and replaced it with one of the wire strings.

This was something entirely new to her. Rose looked it over with the eye of a seemingly experienced artist and then, after deciding that it was worthy, stuck the end of it inbetween her teeth. Green was sitting on the edge of her seat, anxiously waiting for any sign that the baby might need some kind of help. She didn't know what she'd do if Rose choked on something. Much to her relief and fortune, the wire was spit out faster than Lenore's feather and Rose eyed the bottle of water in Green's hands with such hunger that the woman could hardly say no.

It continued on in this fashion with the rest of the items that were covered in vinegar. Rose spat them out and Green eagerly fed the water to her.

Finally, it was time for Grandma Debra's vinegar theory to be put to the test.

Green picked up the kangaroo plushie in one hand and the block of wood in the other and offered them to the bunny child. The suspense was almost more than the woman could handle as Rose examined both objects carefully and then, gave a little cry of pleasure and latched onto the plushie with both hands.

"Woo!" she declared, snatched it away from her mother and excitedly popped its tail inside her mouth.

There, now, that tasted right!

Green clapped her hands in delight and, just to be sure that Rose had chosen the right object by chance, held the hand puppet and a piece of the Barbie furniture out to the baby. Rose was preoccupied with the piece of the kangaroo plushie in her mouth but, never one to turn down something that tasted good, grabbed it and tucked it beside her. For later, of course.
