rorle2000 [yet another glomp to the collection, your the only one who has done that twice, or once.] xd Yay! Okay, so this family in this ward helped out a non-member, and said non-member gave them a gift basket that she made to thank them (or something like that), and she said "well, since I know Mormons aren't supposed to drink soda, I put some sweet tea in there, instead! ^-^ "

Herb teas are good. Love herb teas. Barley tea is also exceedingly yummy! But yeah. I couldn't sleep without my Lemon Chamomille. ^_^

Yeah, see, I actually drink soda every day, and sometimes I drink Green Tea (because if you drink it sparingly, and not a lot like the English drink Black Tea, it helps prevent cancer). My history teacher actually came up to me the other day, and said "I have a question about the LDS." "Okay..." "Are you allowed to have soda?" "Well, there was a dictate a while back that said that we weren't supposed to, but then in a General Conference a while back, Pres. Hinkley (I think it was) got up, and drank a Coke, and said 'it's okay,' so I do, anyway, but I don't have an actual referrence for you off the top of my head." He said it was fine, that he just needed to hear about it from a LDS, that one of his college friends didn't drink it, etc. and he thought of the closest Mormon, and I said "that's me! ^__^ I'm the only one here!" "Really?" "Yes." Hah... yeah... that's my story.

Just to enlighten you a little: While herbal teas are not against the Word of Wisdom, you must remember that Green Tea, is not in the same category. Green Tea is made from the same plant as regular tea, Camellia sinensis, and the difference is that in regular tea the leaves are dried further than Green Tea. It's still tea though. Also: President Hinckley has never drunk Coke in General Conference. What you are referring to sounds like a time when an apostle drank some kava in front of some pacific islanders to prove to them that kava wasn't expressly against the Word of Wisdom. Maybe he drank some Coke to prove that it wasn't against the Word of Wisdom too. I couldn't find any reference to it though. When the Winter Olympics were on a reporter stated in an interview with Pres Hinckley that Mormons avoid Coffee, Tea, and even Caffeine. Pres Hinckley said yes we do. In Mormon Doctrine, Bruce R. McConkie says that, although not against the letter of the Word of Wisdom, they are definitely against the spirit of the Word of Wisdom. He said that over 50 years ago. I'm not trying to make it sound as if I'm better than you or anything, I drink the occasional Vanilla Coke myself. However, when we are discussing doctrinal topics here, and go as far as saying Pres Hinckley drank Coke in conference, we really need to get our facts right.

Once a guy asked me about John Quaker and the golden dishes. I was way confused for a while, until I realized that he was talking about Joseph Smith and the golden plates.
Lots of people think that Mormons have to have a ton of kids, but my family only has 3, and lots of other families in our ward have no more than 4. Our bishop's wife is pregnant with number 7 right now, but other than that, it's pretty much small families in my ward.
I've heard stuff about the whole orgies in the temple and other crazy stuff. One popular myth is the one about how we sacrifice chickens, or soemthing like that. I love to make jokes about that one.
Once when I said that I was NOT a polygamist, a girl next to me said, "But how do you know that you're not?" Um...

Ehm... eek I'm glad no one has said anything to me about having orgies in the temple. I've been told that I worship the devil, that's a common one. I usually reply, "Oh yes, I have to file my horns down every morning. You know, so they don't scare the small children." Let's see...oh yeah, apparently if you don't pay tithing you're excommunicated. confused

I heard once that we dance around bonfires in the temple, worshipping the devil... and that if you visit another church, you're excommunicated. All of this while still in elementary school, mind you.
