A Murder of Angels
Cooleboetie
a lot of good christens said to me, that i must not read lord of the rings, cause of all the witchcraft and wizardry in it. and the darkmonsters and that stuff. and you put it under the christenbooks meaby that was not a right chose.

Actually, Tolkien, the author, was a very devout Catholic. He was a very conservative man who never let himself indulge in anything that might be seen as sinful. He attended church almost daily.

Lord of the Rings has evil sorcerers in it, and in the end, good triumphs. The bible has stories of sorcerers in it, and in the end, good triumphs. I honestly don't see how these people can discredit something just because it uses the word "magic," when it's found in their own bible.

modern ultraconservatives. all i gotta say there.
but thats like a church up here banned harry potter, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

Actually, I have had many uber-conservative christians show me quite a few parallels between LoTR and the Bible.

from what i can tell, the lord of the rings was made to do that, like the Silmarillion looks like it was supposed to be the bible of middle earth, or something to that effect. but its semblance to the bible might also drive some away by giving the impression he was playing god.

Such as what?

General philosophy:
There are Two Errors in the
the Title of this Book- Robert M. Martin

Buddhism:
Mindfulness in the Marketplace- Various authors.

I've also heard some rumors of Silver Ravenwolf writing books with incorrect facts. What of these rumors?

Mostly dealing with the battles, also there are parallels with christian morality, such as choosing, and being able to discern, what is right, among other things.

the New American Bible should be added under Catholicism. It includes the Deuteronomical books left out in the Protestant translations, and is the translation that Catholic liturgy is based off of.

however that edition of the bible was edited for content by the way it reads. half the crucifixtion was cut, and most likely more elsewhere.

Actually, the bible has had subtle changes made to it with each new edition for 2000 years now, as well as some major edits. For instance, in the earliest discovered copy of the book of Mathew, which scientists estimate to be from the end of the first century, it has nothing about the ressurection in it. If this is true, it could blow the entire religion of Christianity apart. I don't know enough about this yet to carry of a heavy conversation about it, but as soon as I find the article again, I'll make a thread about it.

This list would be more comprehensive if sections were divided into fiction and non-fiction. 3nodding
