It was too good to be true, but, as he looked around at all the workers putting up the last of the tents and the merchants setting up their stalls of various goods, he knew that it was indeed true. A festival, full of people from all across the lands. It was a dream come true for his sticky fingers and he couldn't wait for tonight when it would all begin. Best of all, was the fact that it was a masquerade festival, so his mask wouldn't set him apart from the crowd. It often got him sideways looks; not a good thing for a thief. He enjoyed the challenge that it presented though and often left his craft for the evenings so he could hide in the shadows.
Unable to control himself, Sa'avant laughed out loud as he swung open the door to a nearby tavern and walked in to help himself to a little drink before the festival started. He always enjoyed listening to the other people. It was good practice to keep up with the gossip of town and often proved entertaining if not informative. He took a seat in one of the big stools in front of the bar and ordered a pint of the local ale. It wasn't bad, but he never fancied alcohol. Throughout the next few hours, he may take a sip or two, but nothing substantial.

Aria read the notice posted in the Town Square and felt some of the tension leave her body. She was always nervous when she approached a new town, never knowing what kind or reception to expect from the locals. She did her best to be open, friendly an non-threatening with everyone she met, but the simple fact was, there were very few places where her kind was welcome. A Masqurade was the perfect solution to her problem.
She approached a street vendor who was selling masks for the festival, pulling the hood of her cloak closer around her to keep her features in shadow. She scanned his wares, feathers and streamers rustling, cheap glass beads shining in the torchlight. Eventually she settled on a mask in the shape of a snow leopard. When she touched it, she found that it was made out of real fur, soft and smooth, although she doubted it was true leopard fur. "Probably some poor stray that was unlucky enough to cross the mask maker's path at the wrong time." She thought to herself. She also chose a pair of elbow length gloves, made of soft, back leather. She paid the vendor for her items with no problems. If a lone woman with a deep hooded, black cloak masking her features was unusual...well, wasn't the city full of unusual people tonight?
Aria rounded a corner and looked around to be sure there was no one to watch her. Confident that she was alone, she removed her cloak, putting it carefully in her pack. She put the mask and gloves on , covering her ebony black skin. All that a stranger passing by would see was a woman in a leopard mask, her white hair with its golden streaks complementing the white of the mask's fur, her emerald eyes, a strinking contrast, shining out from the eye holes. Aria reflected that, if her intention was to pass unnoticed through the town, this probably wasn't the best disguise. "Well," she thought to herself with a wry chuckle, "No one ever accused a Drow, even an exiled Drow, of lack of pride."
Aria stepped out into the steet and looked around, deciding where to go next. On the corner, about a block down, she saw the lights of a tavern, and suddenly became aware of how dreadfully hungry and thirsty she was. Her decision made, she turned and walked toward the tavern, wondering where this festival night would take her.
