"...really? My mule is as old as the hills and often gets worn out or stumbles" Or stubbornly keeps working despite having a nail driving into his hoof. Surely Dan would not resent a horse taking his place pulling the cart? She'd never leave him. But it'd be better for him.
"I have little gold but I do have a few items - do you trade?" It was no puppy but it was more practical. Altaira liked practical.

Heather smiled, "I dont want anything for the horse, really you will be doing me a favour taking it!" She chuckled and went outside to where the horses were, "Put Amkia on the bed before coming out, he needs his nap!" She chuckled and went over to the youngest of the horses and stroked its forehead. "Listen baby, we got someone who will look after you!" A thought suddenly struck her, "Will you be sticking around with us? This youngsters parents are here and I am not sure how it would take not being around them!" She smiled, hoping.

"Oh, surely...I'm very grateful but lets just say I owe you a huge favour." She placed Amkia on the bed gently and followed after Heather out. She smiled at the young horse with more ease than she did at the other girl - animals were so simple and rarely unpredictable. Or maybe that was just because she'd spent most of her life with only the mule Dan or sheep.
"I - I don't know. I travel with my cart and may be heading the same way as your caravan for a while. But I don't wish to impose on you or your fellows."

She smiled, "Good that means your staying, the other girls and boy, will love you! Everyone gets on with others and you can meet more of the fortunettes like Amkia, there are loads, you may get one as well!" She chuckled and then carefully led the horse towards the girl, "Meet Pearl, your new filly." She smiled and patted the youngster on the neck, her parents were watching from not too far off though none of them moved.

"Hello Pearl" So many questions. Were all fortunettes like her son? There wa sonly one male in the whole troupe? Could she really join? She'd been a little lonely of late. It'd been her third year alone without her Granmother, and don't get her wrong, he loved her mule, but he wasn't the greatest person to /talk/ to.
"How old is she? She's a beauty."

"About a year, not much older then that!" She smiled as her dogs came up around her to be made a fuss of. She let them have their way and knelt down to stoke and kiss her two loving dogs!

"Broken to a harness? I don't mean to seem rude but I've never owned a horse and wouldn't wish to break in a filly myself, for her sake." She smiled sheepishly. Heather seemed so happy and her animals clearly adored her.

"It was natural in her blood, she cant pull really heavy things but she pulled my caravan when it was empty!" She smiled and clipped a rope to the head collar she was wearing and then passed the rope to the other girl, "here she is yours. Don't push her too hard, she has pulled wagons but a cart will be a new experiance for her. Trust her and you wont have a problem!" She smiled and bowed her head slightly.
She suddenly turned and rushed in the caravan just as some crying started. She then came back out with Amkia in her arms. "Its silly, I know when he is about to cry..." She thought outloud and then shook her head, "Oh I am sorry! Could I take a look at your cart?"

"Alright" The elder girl listened as the gypsy explained about Pearl - nodding every now and then to show she understood. The filly could get used to the cart slowly as she weaned Dan off of it...he could go along behind, maybe have a pack, so he didn't feel worthless.
"It's not silly - mother's instinct, I reckon. And your welcome to see my cart." She turned and waited for her to fall into step with her babe before leading her over the painted cart. It really was just a glorified large hay cart.

Heather followed, Amkia in her arms and the dogs rushing around her feet. It wasn't a long walk but it was nice to just walk for a small while, something she hadn't been doing so much of lately.

Dan looked up from where he was grazing, obviously wondering if he could snatch up more grass before he was hitched up again.
"Well, this is my home, Heather." Altaira wished she'd pulled the tarp over so it looked a little more wagon-like. As it was, it had one a couple of planks of wood for a roof and a solid drivers bench with a lock on it - the only hints it was for more than carrying hay.
"If Dan could pull it, I think Pearl could in time."

"I think Pearl would be able to pull it now to be honest, its not to big! Give her ago at it!" Heather smiled and sat down by a tree looking at the cart, her dogs around her and Amkia in her arms, she was happy this way.

It didn't take long to hitch Pearl up to the small cart - She was pleased to find that Dan's tack wasn't a bad fit. She'd make or trade for some new better fitting stuff for Pearl after a while, but for now, the make do stuff made do pretty well.

Heather smiled and walked over and hugged the girl. "Make sure you look after Pearl well!" She chuckled and turned to go back to the caravan. "I shall see you around!"
With a smile she rushed back to her caravan with the dogs beside her. It was feeding time and they knew it.
