As the minutes passed, Jaime grew more and more nervous, wringing his hands gently, and looking about, noting only halfway that his mouth was very dry.... but he dared not touch the pitcher. Finally, the door opened, and he jumped slightly, barely regaining himself in time to adopt a sort-of sprawl in his chair, just before the other man entered.

He retained this lazy demeanor, eyeing the Honor Sergeant with a sort of boredom. The older man could, however, likely see the fear that hovered just behind his facade.

"Er... thanks."

He said at the congratulations, then added only as an afterthought.

"...Sir."

As he listened to the man's name, rank, and the offer to join the squad, one brow continued to arch further and further, until it threatened to disappear into his hair. At the end of the other man's statement, however, all the youth could manage was:

"But... why me?"

"Because, Officer Wheeler," Price responded, not missing a beat. "Every member of my squad must be as I am. Unnoticed. Unmissed. You have not yet earned any medals, or badges, but you show promise. You are, as far as the system is concerned, unseen, and that is what I need."

Coen turned to face the board and wrote in large, black letters "DE Echo".

"Are you familiar with this operation?" He stated. "You likely should be; it is the sole reason we can walk in the Upper City in our uniforms today." He underlined the name, then turned.

"Can you tell me why this operation was sucessful, Wheeler?" He asked, but did not wait for an answer. "Because it was unseen. No one could expect it, and no one could stop it."

The honor sergeant put his hand on the board and pushed, and it slid aside to reveal a map of the Upper City.

"The Upper City is festering from the wounds the crime syndicates left. A few factions are still in power, and trying to overthrow the Haven Government to restart their businesses. We must not allow that. We operate independently, without support, but likewise unseen. We have no friends but our squad mates. And you, Wheeler, have an opportunity to help me keep this city safe. If you accept. If not..."

He pointed to the metal door with his pen. "There's the door."

'The door ******** didn't move. He didn't do much of anything for that matter. Simply stared at the door, then at the finger pointing to it, then finally at the owner of said finger, all with a sort-of bemused expression on his youthful face. If he was going to do anything, it would seem that leaving was not on his immidiate agenda.

[Sorry so short. It was sort-of hard to work off of that last one. Apologies...]

"Very well." Price stated, turning to the board and swiping it clean. "If you have any questions regarding this unit, please direct them to me now. We will wait here in case any of the other individuals I contacted arrive. Until then, please, be comfortable."

Price pulled up a chair for himself on the opposite side of the table and sat. "I imagine you will want to know the name of the squad. We are Bravo Patrol, of Division CZ Gallant. You will be paid a normal salary, but the only medals I am authorized to hand out will be for things I notice in particular. By joining this squad, you remove yourself from active Haven Guard duty. You answer to me, and only to me. You are not to contact any other superior officer for any reason. Do I make myself clear?"

Price sounded stren, but something on his face suggested he was.. cracking? He was seeming to have trouble keeping up the expressionless face, as if it did not come naturally to him.

'Make a right turn and follow the corridor to the end...' were the directions recalled as Lucas made his way toward the contained room. Recently out of training, he could not help but feel a certain sense of anxiety in his gut as he... hadn't been as apt in all areas as he would've liked to have been. Especially with shooting targets far away... they seemed so foggy to him. His trainers, dissatisfied with his shooting capability, only passed him because he had done well in most other areas and managed to hit the last target, though not in a critical spot. He wondered what would be expected of him, but wasn't fearful. The bright lights shone downward to highlight the shine of his dark hair and a hand reached out to grasp the cool, steel handle of the door he was supposed to pass through. He gave it a pull and slipped inside.

Lingering by the door, he noticed there were two others within this room. He waited for a pause in their conversation before speaking up. "Excuse me; Hello, I'm Lucas Galuxen. I was directed to come here. Sorry to intrude, but is this the correct room...?" his kind voice questioned.
PostPosted: Sat May 27, 2006 9:47 pm

Price looked up from where he was sitting and rose to his feet, gesturing to one of the other empty chairs. "Ah, Officer Galuxen. Yes, this is the right room for you.

The door bolted with a click.

"I am glad you could join us. Please, sit. This is Officer Wheeler, I am Honor Sergeant Price, and I have a proposition for you."

Moving across the room, Price picked up his pen and wrote in large black letters on the board: "DE Echo".

"I was just teling Officer Wheeler about this." he said, his strict tone fluctuating for a moment, and a smile almost crossing his face, though he shook it away. "This operation suceeded because it was unseen. Unexpected."

He turned. "Which is why the two of you are here. Both of you are not yet known in the Haven Guard registry. You have a chance at helping me protect this city, if you accept--"

Completely out of the blue, Price faltered. His tone fluctuated and his face twisted, and then he sneezed into his gloved hand. Muttering to himself, he rubbed at his nose.

"I can't keep up this facade... I'm not actually a tight a**."

Throwing the pen aside with a clatter, the honor sergeant broke into a grin. "I'm wearing a rag cape, for the love of god. I'm not that serious."

"Where was I...?"

Lucas stepped further into the light as he was beckoned forward. The click seemed almost ominous to him, but no one else in the room appeared to notice the noise. Not wanting to seem incompetent, he banished the concern from his mind and settled himself in the indicated chair. He glanced over at this Officer Wheeler and offered a hint of a smile, before his attentions were drawn back to the matter at hand.

Nodding along to show he was understanding the gist Price was trying to convey, the young man was surprised as the clatter interrupted his thoughts. He thoroughly wasn't understanding this man any longer, seeing as that muttering hadn't been loud enough to hear. Nonetheless, he offered a confused smile in return and glanced again over at the younger officer to see if his reaction was anything similar. Rag cape?

He nodded slowly and spoke up in a sweet, but slightly awkward tone, "I think you were... telling us about protecting something?"

Jaime simply sat through the introduction, barely looking up at the other recruit as he walked through the door. He did react, however, to the odd expression on his superior's face, as well as the sneeze and the following statement.

"...."

Was pretty much all the young man could manage, and even as they were asked to say something about theirselves, all the youth could manage was:

"...So much for new recruits having all that much respect for their higher-ups..."

The muttered statement, however, barely expressed what Jaime was actually thinking. Something along the lines of inexpressable relief that this commander wasn't going to be just another drill sergeant.

Caught rather off-guard by the constant change in demeanor this sergeant seemed to be having, Lucas wasn't exactly prepared to relay his entire life story. However, he tried to piece together a decent response as the clearly younger one was rendered more speechless than he. "Well, I..." he started shakily and then his voice smoothed out, "Before my training, I frequently worked in hospitals and medical clinics. Business wasn't really ever my expertise and I'm quite good with my hands." Mature enough to override the possible perverted connotation that phrase might offer, he merely smiled and rubbed a hand behind his own neck; its fingers were slender and his hands appeared delicate. They were, in fact, quite strong and gentle all at once.

"So, I like medicine a lot. And, I suppose to touch on the other topics, I enjoy orchestral, classical music and my last appointment with my barber--" a sweet, light chuckle passed through his lips, "ended in me buying him a new pair of scissors. It seemed I had ruined his original pair." As he finished his response, he looked back from Price over to youth beside him. He inquired in a pleasant voice, "May I ask how old you are?"

All at once, the door slung open and Dominic followed it's fluid motion into the spacious room. It wasn't hard to spot the three men already gathered. ".. The parties already started without me?" he asked, hearing the door click shut behind him. He hefted his satchel over his shoulder with a sort of practiced ease and started toward the clustered group. With his well-worn tan jacket slacking shamelessly open showing off the white tanktop underneath, he looked little like a trimmed-up soldier. In fact, he looked little different than a typical young man from off the street.

Inviting himself to one of the open chairs, two dog tags around his neck clinked softly together as he sat down. "So, did I miss anything overly important? Oh.. And I suppose I should apologize for being late. I am late, aren't I? I kept forgetting the directions so I had to stop off a few times to ask." A 'few' times for him, in reality, was around five or six. "Well.. I wouldn't say to 'ask', but I just wanted to confirm. I didn't want to wind up in some place miles off from here! Boy, would that be one crappy adventure!" He chuckled slightly to himself before lolling back comfortably once his chattering finally came to a stop. "So.. What's going on?"
PostPosted: Wed May 31, 2006 4:32 pm

Jaime was about to answer Lucas' question, when the door opened, and a very sudden flood of speech, all from one person, rather overwhelmed and distracted the young man.

"I... I..."

He stammered, thrown violently from his train of thought, and the question at hand tossed a couple-hundred yards away. As he surveyed this newcomer, finally getting over his talkative entrance, he grinned slightly. Something told him they were going to get along well. Amusedly, he looked down at his own slouched, comfortable posture, then to Dominic's, and continued to grin, rubbing the back of his neck once before remembering he'd been asked a question.

"Wait... huh? Oh. Sev--"

Jaime stopped there, rather abruptly, before correcting himself. Subtlety was never his strong point.

"Ahem. Eighteen."

Coen was suprised by Dominic's sudden entrance, his brow furrowed and one eyebrow lifted slightly.

"You must be... Officer Canjemi." He said, trying to recover a moment of his strict sergeant faced, but it slipped again as his face broke into a sociable smile. "That should be everyone. You haven't missed anything but first introductions, so welcome."

Coen grabbed a chair and pulled it to the head of the table, then reached up behind his head and untied his rag cloak. "Officer Canjemi, this is Officer Wheeler," He pointed to Jaime, "And Officer Galuxen." His pointing finger moved to Lucas. "Wheeler, Galuxen, this is Officer Canjemi."

Folding his "cape", he put it underneath his chair and took a seat. "Gentlemen, my name is Honor Sergeant Price. The three of you were selected out of basic or your preliminary squad assignments to be transferred to my command." A grin broke across his face. "Wheeler asked what you're all thinking; why me? Because, gentlemen, of your backgrounds. Not because you've been shot five times and lived to tell the tale, or some other medal for valor, but because at this time, no one knows about you. If Honor Sergeant Carlan dissapeared, would you wonder why?"

He let that sink in a moment. Sergeant Carlan was famous as the squad leader that spearheaded Operation DE Echo during the first stages of the reclamation, and was the most awarded living member of the Haven Guard. Normally, command was very stingy about medals, usually only awarding them to soldiers who had died in combat, but they had made an exception for the Honor Sergeant that saved the Upper City.

"But if three green recruits left service, as far as anyone can tell, it wouldn't be commented on. I've handpicked every one of you. Canjemi, Galuxen, you two come reccomended for a strong service background, even for your short time in the Haven Guard. Wheeler, you are reported as having promise, passing basic as a well-rounded officer, and I could use you as a point man. Your... zeal comes reccomended by your instructor."

Price leaned back in his chair, folding his hands. "You three are invisible. And that is what I need. I intend to continue operation CZ Gallant."

That said, Price quieted again, once again letting them think about it. His expression belied his thoughts, however, for his eyes were wide and hopeful. It was the expression of a man who had spent so long in hiding making his first new "friends".

"CZ Gallant had been intended to reclaim the Upper City, but that chance was botched. DE Echo took our place, and now the city is reunited." His face began to darken. "But the crime lords are trying to reestablish their hold and the Haven Government can't deploy without the word getting out, somehow, and when the raid is launched, our targets evade capture. We need an invisible squad, and with that, we can protect Haven better than any standing army of law enforcers."

Price looked across the group, trying to gauge their thoughts on the matter. "I need a doctor in case we are wounded. I need a bold man who can keep his head in a fight. I need someone who can handle the electronics that the government has submerged the city into. This war will be fought on all fronts and I need every man I can get."

Standing, Price removed three small cards from his belt and set them on the table, sliding each, face down, to the men. "But don't give me your answer here. If you join up with me... help me save this city before it gets devoured from the inside... there's an address on that paper, lists a business in the Upper City. Two of my contacts have set up a hidden base there we can use. Wait a few days, get to know each other if you want, and then meet me there if you choose."

Price picked up his cape and swept it around his shoulders, then mussed his own hair with a hand to make him look more dissheveled. "Go safe, gentlemen."

And with that, Coen Price left, leaving the three to consider...

((All right, folks, I have to leave town for four days. You're welcome to RP wandering about the city, getting to know each other, returning to your rooms and packing up, deliberating, and so on, but please don't RP visiting the listed address until I return.

When I return, I will post up a description of Bravo company's secret base in the opening thread, and you all can pick rooms and get yourselves situated.

Sorry for this unexpected hiatus. Least I didn't leave you guys completely hanging! See you in four days, be well and all that.

Doorman out.))

Lucas was also surprised as the abrupt, enthusiastic entry of the most recent addition to their supposed group interrupted his train of thought. However, he couldn't surpress a pleased smile and a soft chuckle; this new officer had a certain vitality about him that was undeniably attractive.

His attention was drawn from the new arrival however by Wheeler's attempt at a response. He gave the younger officer a look of encouragement to answer. "Eighteen?" he repeated. Surprises never seemed to cease. "My goodness," he murmured with a smile before raising his voice so Wheeler could hear him, "You're quite young, aren't you?" It was far from a derisive comment; rather, one of interest and amusement. He enjoyed the company of those younger than him-- they usually seemed a bit less set in their ways and open minded than his older acquaintences and friends.

His focus was redirected back to the one calling their meeting as Price proceeded to make introductions. He followed the deemed leader's speech quite well... until the name CZ Gallant surfaced. He'd heard the name before, and he also heard of great danger associated with it. His normally serene countenance definitely showed a clear concern for the situation and he shifted uncomfortably in his chair. To protect the City. Haven. He'd definitely not expected such a hefty assignment entering this room. But... Price said he needed them.

Nodding to show he was following the context of the situation, his gaze moved down to the cards extended out to them. His hand slipped from its resting place in his lap to retrieving a card on the table's metallic surface. He glanced down at it. It was both an easy and tremendously difficult thing to decide. He might as well do as the sergeant asked and get to know these other officers a little bit.

"Well... that was a bit of a shocker, now wasn't it?" he commented, trying to identify with them on a common ground.

"Woah-ho! Eighteen? No way," Dominic commented once the younger officer mentioned his age. "Watch it, kid, or you might make us look like old-timers. I'm not quite ready to be classified with the senior group just yet."

The blonde quieted down for the Sergeant's speech. CZ Gallant.. He had read up on the operation online before. At least what bits of information he could squeeze out of the hidden files. He never quenced his full thirst of every detail inside the deal.

Waiting until Price left the room, he then made a move to pick up one of the two remaining cards. A rush of adrenaline coursed through his veins at the mere touch of the card. It was as if holding the simple piece of paper sent the true meaning of this mission to his brain. The possible excitement, danger, adventure.. And best of all, he'd get to watch it all, or so he first thought, while behind his computer screen.

Sliding the card into a sidepocket on his satchel still hanging by his side, Dominic slouched back into his chair. Having heard Lucas' comment, a slight grin tugged one corner of his mouth. "It's Death Mission 101," he said with a bob of his shoulders, assumed to be a shrug. "But basically a shock, yah.. I really wasn't expecting that while I was brushing my teeth this morning. I mean sure, I had some pretty crazy ideas as to what I'd be called here for, but this-" he paused for a short laugh. "This I would have filed in the near impossible section."
