4/23/06 - Log entry one.

I have been very fortunate today--I stumbled upon a large gemstone during my daily walk around Durem. The first thing I thought of it was its price; a large gem like this would certainly fetch a good amount in the market. However, I decided to take it home with me. Passed a pawn shop on the way back, I should take note of its address.

The gem itself is very curious. I've never seen one of this size, especially not lying to the side of the street. For now, I've purchased this new journal so that I may document my findings on this unusual stone. (Besides, it lets me sound smart. Yay!)

The jewel itself is an opaque green, perhaps pine with a spot of mint mixed in. It was nestled on a peach cushion when I found it as well. Upon further research (and a visit to the jeweler's), I have determined that the jewel is av--ava--quartz with a funky name.

For now, I shall keep the gem. I have the strangest feeling that something odd will emerge because or from it.

4/29/06 - Log entry two.

Stumbled upon a .. a TREE while I was on my way to Aekea.

Brought the jewel, that's obvious -- I've been trying to peddle it off ever since I found the stupid thing. And now it's starting to fizz at me. That's right, fizz.

It scared Mayu a few days before too. God, I'm so pissed off that I can't even write in a smart fashion right now. And god knows I only bought this journal to do that.

Anyway, onto the tree. It was HUMONGUS, and being the curious idiot that I am, I actually stopped the bus and departed. Forgot all about the furniture I was going to buy in Aekea, just plain stopped in the middle of nowhere.

I went up close to examine the tree, it looked fairly normal but seemed to give off some sort of magical aura. I poked it. The next thing I knew, I was at this big city. It was about to rain too, so I began running up the stairs like crazy.

I knew my way around the city pretty well, having been there once before (though I was just bumbling around with Mayu at the moment, I had no idea how I had gotten there). Saw Rena there and met her daughter .. all that fancy shizz.

It was starting to pour so I ran inside the nearest empty chamber I could find, and lo-and-behold, I happen to run into Crystal again. What a surprise.

She seemed shocked about the jewel I had, and explained to me about the Jumi, or whatever they call them. Said the big rock I had was a core, which would grow into another kid.

Core, schmore, I'm still calling it a plain ol' rock. An annoying one, too. I'm not annoyed about having to take in another kid -- they're a bit fun. It's been quiet around the house since Miyu left, and I don't reckon she's coming back.

I just hope the kid gets the HECK out of this rock before I decide to sell it to some vending merchant in Barton.

Oh, and about how I got out? Caught a bus on its way back to Durem, luckily. I would have been walking for days if not for my luck.

4/30/06 - Log entry three.

It was a girl. A girl came out of the rock.

Of course, I remember Crystal explaining to me about the Jumi, but CURSE my short attention span -- I was too busy looking at the shiny stones embedded in the ceiling to really listen. I got in some bits about an emergence ceremony, and about their history, but that's really all I can recall.

She looks so precious! Mayu took to her quickly too, after I explained to her that she emerged from the core I had been yelling at for the past week. She was a bit surprised, but I think it went quite well. I think they're playing together downstairs, that's good.

Orphne and Akumu are also down there watching, making sure they don't get into trouble. But I don't think I need to worry much, two little girls can't do much harm at all.

In which Verde explores with Mayu, part one.

The green-haired child trotted about the house with curious eyes. She had been playing one of her pretending games again -- they were so fun! She was playing as a princess on this day: Kimiko had lent her a long, flowy skirt to wear, and had crafted a tiara out of construction paper for the child to place upon her head. Trouncing about, Verde spun the corner and near-collided with her sister, who was practicing her vocabulary in the doorway. She seemed to be waiting for something -- ah, that's right, Kimiko had ordered a jumble of new furniture to be shipped to the house this afternoon.

Upon noticing the Jumi in the hallway, Mayu chirped out a greeting to her little sister. It was a rather hyper one, too; Kimiko really had to limit the sugar intake of the household members. "Verde! Hiii~!"

"Big sister~!" The Jumi instantly forgot her "regalness" and rushed up to embrace the older girl. They were still the inseperable pair, even if one of the two had grown up in the blink of an eye. "Are you busy?" The dark-skinned girl asked, hoping that the pink one would say no.

"No, of course not!" Mayu's laughter chimed like bells, and she closed the notebook in her hand with a snap. "So! What do you want to do today?"

To that question, Verde simply had to shrug, she honestly did not know what to do. It was a peculiar question for the little one, usually her sisters had creative ideas for daytime merriment and joy. Having the role reversed, the dark-skinned Jumi was utterly clueless as to what to do.

"Umm ... How about ... How about we take a walk around town? I know this really nice botanical garden nearby!" Mayu suggested, a sparkle in her eyes. She had been looking for an excuse to visit the gardens for quite a while now, ever since she had pulled up the website on her mother's laptop.

"Alright!" Verde clapped, glad that her sister had come up with a solution to their predicament. Grabbing the older girl's hand, she lead her downstairs and to the door. There was no time to waste!

In which Verde explores with Mayu, part two.

The Botanic Museum and Gardens of Durem City was the most prestigious museum the area had on the nature of plants, and also hosted the largest greenhouse in Gaia. Mayu had read all about them in the newspapers, the internet, and had even seen an advertisement on television. She couldn't wait to go!

"Come on! Let's go!" She laughed, running downstairs. Verde eagerly followed, she loved flowers as well, though not nearly as much as Mayu did. The two rushed out the door after waving to the population of three in the living room.

They arrived at the botanical museum shortly after, fifteen minutes to be precise. After paying up the entrance fee, the two hastily rushed through the rotating glass doors and into the jungle.

The air was cool and humid. The Legend and the Jumi stepped into the glass building tentatively at first, but their moods were uplifted as they began to explor the area. The building itself was built completely out of reinforced glass, with a large elm tree rising out of the center. Attatched to the main lobby were six hallways, leading to rooms equal in size to the main hall, but containing their own replicas of the various biomes aroung the world.

"It's beautiful!" Mayu breathed, eyes wide in amazement. The two beings were standing in front of the great tree that loomed majestically in the center of the glass building, staring at its thick trunk, which must have been at least 30 feet in diameter. Verde nodded her head in agreement, green hair bobbing behind her.

They made headway for the tropical jungle exhibit, sun passing slowly overhead. It was quite an accurate reproduction of the rain forests, a humid fog lingering in the air as the overhead sprinklers perfunctorily performed their tasks of showering the visitors (and the plants) with "rain" every hour, precisely to the minute. Mayu and Verde happened to stumble into the room at just that time, getting drenched with a mineral-enriched water to keep the plants healthy and green.

They trudged around the miniature forest for a while, marveling at the colorful plants which grew about the region. After Verde got tangled up in a bunch of vines, however, the two decided it was time to leave the exhibit and visit another.

"Let's go to the desert next!" Verde spoke up, pointing toward an identical glass hallway once they had made it back into the center. She grasped the older girl's hand and lead her towards the room, hair still damp from the downpour that the overhead sprinklers had cast upon them.

In which Verde explores with Mayu, part t(h)ree.

A group of researchers were working avidly in the desert replication, recording their daily findings of the area quickly in their laptop powerbooks. As Mayu and Verde entered the room, they paid no heed and went on to record notes about the saguaro cacti which were flourishing in the southern part of the glass dome.

Her sandaled feet sinking slowly into the soft sand below, Mayu grasped her little sister's hand tightly as not to lose her. The terrain was nearly bare of vegetation, but in such a large area of land, the possibilities of getting lost were still pretty high.

"Hot, isn't it?" the pink-clad girl said, looking about her with flittering pink eyes. The Jumi nodded in agreement, the heat in the desert exhibit was almost unbearable! Though the small desert roses and the cacti were pretty, she could not stand to be in the room, especially with the heavy clothing she had picked out to wear on that day. Tugging on a pink sleeve, Verde struggled.

"It's too hot in here... Can we come back to this room in the winter or something?" The dark-skinned Jumi asked, frown on her face. Mayu nodded in agreement, also wilting from the heat. They retreated from the sandy room and decided to go elsewhere.

This elsewhere was in fact, a deciduous forest. The trees rose up to meet the sky, though not as large as the massive elm. Verde was intrigued, and thus, decided that she would attempt some exploring on her own. It was an intriguing task, and she was rather curious as to what the trees held in their branches. Her normally dazed eyes seemed to focus as she slipped away from her big sister, who was captivated by the structure of a pine tree at the current moment.

This is about the great oak tree, part four.

Trodding over branches and grasses, the curious Jumi traversed her way about the maze of trees. They were lush and green with leaves, allowing the tiniest bit of sunlight to peer over its branches. But the room was well lighted, and thus the Jumi could easily navigate about the myriad of plants without a problem.

...It took a while for the Legend to realize that her little sister was gone. I mean, really: what was with her family and getting lost? After taking her gaze off of a carpet of lavenders she had stumbled upon to show her little sister, she realized that the Jumi was nowhere to be found. Cursing silently in her head -- well, it wasn't cursing, per se, unless you would count strings of "stupid" and "idiot" to be cursing -- and looking about with a sad countenance, Mayu tumbled over the rough path that was laid out in the forest and began searching for her sibling.

"I can't believe it, where could she have gone?" Mayu sighed, sitting down on an exposed root. What could she, a mere child, do? Call security? Wait-- of course! She could call security! Beaming at her brilliant thought, Mayu retraced the path she had followed into the forest and looked for a nice security officer...

The dense clusters of trees eventually spread out into a clearing, a large oak tree sitting in the center. It was luck that the Jumi had happened upon this area in the first place: the whole building was monstrous, and the rooms that contained the various environments were massive as well. A person could get lost for days upon days just wandering through one room.

Perhaps it had been bad judgment to even seperate from her sister in the first place. The dark-skinned girl sighed and toddled over to the roots of the reaching tree, finding a comfortable spot to lie down on. It would only be a matter of time before her big sister found her, right?

...Right?

Verde yawned drowsily, curling up in place and shifting to reach a comfortable position. She would just take a little nap. That's right, a little nap.

--------------------

The brushing sound of leaves woke the Jumi from her nap, and she hopped to her feet energetically. The sleep was just what she had needed, and now she was ready to continue on her way! Wherever her way was, at least.

"Wait!" A voice pleaded, stopping the girl in her tracks as she was about to set off on a different path. "Please stay!"

"Who said that?" Verde voiced, a bit tentatively at first. If there was one thing she knew, it was to not listen to disembodied voices when one spoke up until the owner of the voice was confirmed. Of course, the idea of field workers or security guards was also plausible. Pivoting on her heels, the Jumi batted a lock of curly green hair away to see who was the speaker.

Well, her field worker/guard theory was disproved. She tried again, calling out in a louder voice this time.

"Who are you?" she asked, light brown eyes flickering with curiosity. She wasn't afraid of the voice anymore, but was now curious of its source.

"The oak tree, of course!" the voice replied, bursting into a fluster of giggles. A wood nymph, most probably. "You don't look like.. the others. You must be a visitor, right?"

The Jumi nodded, hair bobbing up and down with her head motions. To any onlooker it would have looked to be a silly gesture, and the voice giggled once more.

"You have nice hair," it mused, "Green, like my leaves."

"And you have very nice branches," Verde replied, as it was the first thing that came to mind. "You must work very hard to keep them looking so pretty."

"I'm flattered!" The tree rumbled slightly, beckoning the child to sit. The green-haired girl complied to its requests, and they chattered away into the afternoon.

Verde was the first to notice the time -- an impressive feat, as the sun was shielded by the leaves at almost all positions -- and stood up, waving a sad goodbye.

"I'm sorry, but I have to leave now..." she said, a bit sadly. The tree rustled in response, as if in understanding.

"Your sister will be coming for you soon with a security guard," the voice replied, a tinge of sadness in its voice as well. "Come visit soon, okay?"

The Jumi nodded, waving to the tree. "I'll make sure of it!"

--------------------

"Verde? Verde? Wake up! It's time to go home!" The Legend shook her little sister lightly, waking the dark-skinned child from her nap in a flurry of eye-batting.

"Already?" The Jumi pouted, grasping Mayu's hand tightly. "Let's come back another day."

The silver-haired girl nodded, starting down the forest trail. "We'll be back, you can be sure of that!"

Verde smiled, giving a nod to her sister. As she was led down the trod-over path, she looked back to the clearing and waved towards the oak tree.

A leaf fell from the tree's twisted branches, floating to the ground slowly but steadily. It was its sign of saying good-bye.
