"You've already seen the paperwork farm, I take it," she said as they passed through the cubicle-filled ballroom. "These men and women are mostly in charge of research and financial records - keeping them and falsifying them, if needed." Avdotya laughed slightly. "For those among the doctors who are working outside government orders, that is."

As they passed the large staircase leading to the upper floor, she paused. "Most of the personel quarters - including mine - are on the floor above. Yours is among them. Because of your... sensitive position, you can't be allowed to live off site. You don't have anybody who would care, do you, Mr. Wilcox?"

He was once again reminded that the tidal force, the overwhelming majority, the driving blood of the modern world, was people who didn't know how to live life. He supposed that it was possible some of these people enjoyed paperwork, but he wasn't convincing enough to fool himself.

"Uh huh."

Living here shouldn't be too bad. He had been promised he could support his habits, and in an area where nobody was allowed off-site, he was sure there were some parties to be had. Too tell the truth, though...

"Nope, It's just me. I doubt Id've been hired if I had many ties to other people."

The truth is, he smelled a war, and didn't want to be part of this one. A bodygaurd to a scientist was the second least dangerous wartime position, the least being the scientist herself.

She smirked. "As I expected. Now, then - I suppose I had better show you where you'll be spending the majority of your time, yes?" There was a moment there where it seemed she was heading upstairs to the bedchambers, but it seemed... ahah! There was a staircase spiralling down nearby, as well, concealed by a small door.

She led him down all the way to the bottom floor. "Most of my work need only be done on the floor above this - my main laboratory - but the experiments going on down here are, in some ways, more interesting. There are two sections - holding cells for my... resources, and, more importantly..." At the bottom of the stairs, there was a small antechamber that split off through two doors. Withdrawing a key from her lab coat, she unlocked one.

"Do be quiet, Mr. Wilcox. You may disturb the experiments going on."

They were quickly assaulted with the sound of screaming and crying. Somebody was begging to be let out... or killed, whatever could be done to end his misery. There was no other sound... except perhaps a faint crying at the end of the hall.

Narrowing her eyes, Avdotya stalked in, not paying attention to see if Wilcox was following her. She passed many windows (or, more likely, a two way mirrors). One held what looked to be a tank-like construct. Another, further down, held a man who had gouged at his face. He was currently screaming and banging his head against the glass, crying.

Avdotya ignored him, and went to the very end of the hall. There... was the form of another man, curled up and shaking. She jerked him up by the collar, then began to drag him towards the exit again.

"Sadly, Mr. Wilcox," she ennunciated through gritted teeth, "our tour will have to wait while I take care of some unexpected business. Come with me."

The man in her grip whimpered and staggered along behind her, feebly trying to push her away.

"Up the stairs, if you please."
