Homecoming The dark blue sedan pulled up the round driveway to the front of a large victorian style house. As Nemora watched Raoul look up at the building she was glad she'd told Korina to keep Soyo busy in the garden, she didn't want to overwhelm Raoul on his first day here.
I guess it looks nice, Raoul thought to himself. He still didn't know what to think of this woman who'd come to adopt him. For one thing her eyes were a bit creepy. One blue and one violet? It just wasn't natural. But then, he was a kid with wings, who was he to speak of natural?
"We're here," Nemora said softly, she considered reaching for Roaul's smal duffle to help him bring it in, but just like when she picked him up at the lab, he snatched it up and held the strap rather tightly. Nemora smiled at him and after getting out went around to open the other car door for him seeing as now his hands were full.
She is nice though, thought Raoul to himself. He looked around at the trees and rocks in the well-organized front lawn, Nemora was about three steps ahead of him. When he entered the house he stood in marvel of the first thing everyone sees upon entering. The large, curved staircase which could take one to either the second or third flood, depending on which side you took. Nemora looked at him and then smiled, it had taken nearly a week to clean and polish the foyer when they'd first moved in. She was rather proud of her work.
"Now you'r room is on the second floor, like mine and Soyo's. Would you like to see it?" Raoul nodded and Nemora smiled to him, though once her back was turned while leading him up the stairs, her eyes grew troubled. He will speak soon enough, don't push him, Nemora told herself. Though they'd spoken during their first meeting at the lab, Raoul had not spoken a word since getting in the sedan this evening. Not a word through dinner at the burger restraunt, and still not a word while walking to his room.
On the second floor Nemora turned left to guide him to the west wing of the floor. She and Soyo were across the stairs, but being an older boy Nemora felt Raoul would like his space. "Here we are," Nemora said, opening the door to a room no larger than Soyo's and just as sparcely decorated.
There was a bed with white sheets and a blue blanket; to one side there was a short, three shelf book case with about a dozen books of varying sizes; and up against the middle wall was a desk and chair. Raoul entered and first went to the book case, he glanced at the titles and wondered if they would be interesting. Then he went to the desk, he was aware that Nemora was in the doorway watching him, but he didn't mind for now.
The he saw something quite interesting. On the desk there was a book different from the others. It had a fancy looking "R" on it and when he flipped it open he saw the pages were blank. A journal... he realized. It even had a matching pencil which he took in his hand, smiling. He turned to face Nemora.
He stood silently for a moment, as though considering his words carefully. "Thank you," he said.
"Your welcome," Nemora said in the same soft voice that he did. "Well tomorrow you'll meet the rest of the household, but for now it is time to sleep."
Raoul might have protested just to test his limits here, but he found he was quite tired already and simply nodded. When Nemora left, she kept the door slightly ajar. Raoul looked around the room, pale light from the setting sun came through his window and he went to look out for a bit. His window faced north, and he could see the beach from here. It all seemed too perfect. What would go wrong?
He tried to clear his head as he slipped between the sheets to drift off to sleep.

First Day Day: I donno, does it matter?
Something woke me up this morning, but I don't know what. When I looked around, the room was still pretty dark. I think the sun was only starting to rise. I lay there, waiting to see if it had been some sound... the room is creepy. It seems better now that the sun is mostly up, and the curtains open. I don't like them, they're yellow. Yellow is an ugly color. Nemora's pretty nice, maybe she'll change them if I ask her.
I think I'm meating Soyo today. I guess he's supposed to be my "brother". I've never had a brother before, what if he's a real twerp? Or older than me and a bully? Once my wings are fully grown I'll just fly away and that'll show him!
A few minutes ago I started hearing things downstairs, maybe that woke me up? I don't smell anything, but this place is so big I doubt you can smell breakfast cooking way up here. I wonder if I'll get to explore the other rooms, I saw the stairs kept going up. There's a third floor. What's up there?
I think someone's coming on the stairs.

Reflection Day: I think I'm gonna just leave this blank from now on...
'Mora changed the curtains yesterday. Not replaced, but changed. It was strange, I told her how I didn't like yellow, that green was much better. She simply nodded and looked a bit lost in thought. I wondered if she'd even heard me. Then she reached out to touch the curtains, and they changed. They looked like some strange paint was running from the top and down to the bottom, turning them a deep shade of green with little cine patterns instead of the tiny flowers. I couldn't say anything. I think she worried I was mad or something. She asked if I liked them, if they were alright. I nodded.
I don't know how we started talking, but she began explaining some of the... things she can do. Change things. And make stuff to protect herself and me and Soyo. She also told me how doing too much could make her tired. It was funny, I almost think she means for me to be able to do this kind of stuff someday. My last... Guardian wasn't very talkative on the matter.
I hope we can go back to the lab someday. Right now 'Mora doesn't mention it, but I think about it a lot. I want to know more about me. Is she right? Will I be able to do that stuff?
Well, I can hear Soyo coming down the hall, he's rather loud but I guess he's OK. He really likes my wings.

Missing Day:
Soyo left! 'Mora won't explain anything to me and I want to know where he is! She seems so sad about it, but I think it might be her fault. What if she did something to him? Will she do that to me too? Am I safe here!? I'm so scared now. I tried locking my door, but there's no lock. So I put the chair in front of the room. Maybe I can get out the window... It seems so high. But then I do have wings, what good are they if I can't fly? 'Mora tells me not to try it yet, that I should let them get bigger. I was even doing some exercises to help them strengthen up... but I don't know if I can trust her anymore!
Action Raoul slapped his journal shut and looked around his room. It was 10am by the clock on his desk, so he knew it would be a while before he was called to lunch. 'Mora liked to give him time to do as he wished between breakfast and lunch. Usually after lunch she tried to engage him in activities around the old house. It was still being cleaned. It'll take her a year to get this dump cleaned up, he thought to himself.
He quickly pulled the sheets from his bed, he'd deicded what to do now. Just in case it was too soon to test his wings, he had decided to make a rope. It took a while to figure out the best way to tie the two sheets together, the elastic of the fitted sheet was quite a problem until he got a pair of scissors to cut it off with. He pulled at the knots to make sure they were tight enough, at least he hoped they were tight enough...
The window was easy to open, it had been fixed just two days ago. What luck! Now with half of his rope dangling out the window, Raoul looked around for something to tie the other end to.
"The bed," he said and began tieing off the rope. He tugged a bit to see if the bed would move. It didn't. He looked out the window, it looked like his rope went down to just a few feet above the ground. He gulped, feeling nervous about what he was going to do.
Taking a deep breath he climed out the window. The window ledge was much thinner than he thought it would be, he barely avoided falling. Gripping tightly to the rope he began making his way down.
Back in his room, the bed did begin to shift, but only slightly. What was more alarming was the knot around the leg of the bed which was slowly coming undone with all the pressure!
Raoul paused above the window of the first floor. He hadn't thought about that, what if the sheets had already been seen? He hoped that if Korina or 'Mora had seen then they'd be on their way up to his room instead of outside. He really didn't have to worry at all since both women were cleaning the attic.
The knot on the bed slipped and from the open window Raoul's yelp could be heard...
"Oof!" Raoul had fallen flat on his behind from about 5 feet up. He rolled over and rubbed his sore bottom. Looking up he saw the sheet come out of the window and float down, he realized it must have come off the bed. He didn't sit there long though, he was now out in the garden and didn't know where to go. He got up though and went to hide within the shade of the large apple tree.
"Where to now?" he asked himself. It felt like such a long way from the lab. If only he knew where some of the others were.
