Jess took him through the basic motions for nearly an hour finally stopping when he had almost got the balance and angles right. Wiping her brow with the sweatband on her wrist Jess turned to face him, catching her breath and waiting to speak.

"O.k." She said stretching her arms above her head. "I think we're just about ready to call it a night. And as promised, I shall show you a throw Daniel-san." She gave a smirk, not sure if he would get the reference or not. Ah well, she thought it was funny.

Moving to the middle of the mats she looked back at him.
"Now, this is the same principle. It's all about my movement and your balance. As I run at you, you use my energy to throw. Not your strength. It should be pretty easy." Putting her hands on her hips she walked to the other end of the mats. "O.k. I'm going to run at your back, use my arm to move me over your shoulder. Ready?"

Kayne rested his hands lighly on his hips as they took a small breather, giving his sweaty hair a bit of a toss out of his eyes. When she spoke, his full attention fell on her, his eyes opening a hair wider as she stretched, pulling her cropped shirt up a bit higher. Quickly he moved his eyes back up to hers, frowning a bit when he missed the humor in the reference she had made. Giving his head a small shake he focused on her instructions. He figured he would be able to do it. It sounded easy enough. Taking a deep breath he turned his back to her and gave his head a slight nod. "Ready," he replied and forced himself to relax.

Jess took a deep breath and watched him turn. She hadn't actually done a throw with someone as inexperienced, so she hoped it would go o.k. The last thing she needed was a broken arm, or worse.
"O.k. Coming." She said and started towards him. One arm out as if to hit his shoulder.

Kayne listened to her bare feet hitting the mats as she charged forward. He could do this. He just needed to relax. Taking a deep breath he centered his balance, bending his knees and reaching for her fist when he heard she was just about to crash into him. His big hands encirlced her slender wrist and he started to tuck into himself to throw her over his shoulder.

At least, that was his intention. Instead he panicked for a moment and lost his balance, pulling her down on top of him as together they crashed down to the mats in a heap. With a loud 'Oomph!' he felt the wind get knocked out of him as she landed heavily on his back.

"Ow..." he gasped weakly, then turned his head slightly. "Are you okay?" he asked, worried that she might have gotten hurt.

Jess rolled off Kayne clutching her wrist. That is what she got for allowing him to do the fun stuff too soon. She rushed things and now she'd probably sprained her right wrist, and on her drawing hand.
"s**t." She said sitting up and massaging it. "Are you o.k?" She asked putting her left hand on his back." He voice showing concern. "I really shouldn't have let you do that. I'm sorry." she winced and cradled her hurt arm.

Kayne rolled over onto his side to look at her, concern immediately covering his face when he noticed the way she was cradling her arm against herself. He sat up quickly, wincing a bit as he realized his chest was a bit sore from falling full force on it.

"I'm fine," he said, reaching out to pull her injured arm over to him gently, careful not to move it too much. His keen eyes examined it carefully. He glanced up with a small smile. "I'm really sorry about that. I freaked out when I thought that I might hurt you... and then I did," he said with a small shrug. He liked being this close to her, but felt awful for injuring her.

Jess shook her head and smiled as he examined her arm gently. She knew it was just a sprain. Something she had done numerous times before.
"Don't worry about it love, seriously." She grinned. "It's not your fault, I've had worse injuries." She looked at him for a moment, the poor boy did seem quite worried. "Whatever we do in these lessons, you don't have to worry about hurting me. I'm a tough girl." a sly smile crossed her lips. "Besides however hard you hurt me I'll just get you back twice as hard. So, what do you think Dr Shaidey? Is it o.k?"

Kayne swallowed hard at the small term of endearment and quickly moved his eyes back down to her wrist. When she paused briefly, he looked back up at her and gave her a smile. He had no doubt about that.

"Yeah. Just a sprain. Not a bad one either," he said, looking back down to run his finger tips lightly over her injured wrist. He stopped and looked up at her, resting his fingers lightly on her wrist. "Would you like for me to wrap it up for you?" he asked.

Jess smiled and nodded. "If you could. I'm not sure I'd do much of a good job one handed and I need it to be done properly."

She watched him trace his fingers down her wrist and gave another small smile. It was a shame that so many schools and people had written him off as a violent trouble maker. He was such a gentle and caring kid when he wanted to be.

"I think the first aid kit is in the lock up cupboard, where we got the mats from."

"Okay. Stay right here," he said as he gently placed her arm back in her lap. He pushed himself up to his feet and half jogged over to the room to get the first aid kit. He found it quickly and hurried back, plopping down in front of her, crossing his legs indian style so that their knees barely touched. Opening the kit in his lap he started to dig through it until he found the ace bandage inside. He pulled it out and snapped the kit closed and was about to start unwinding it when he realized that she was a bit sweaty.

"One second," he said, setting the bandage down on top of the kit and getting to his feet again. He searched the cupboards for a few minutes and finally found a towel. He ran half of it under some cool water, wrung it out and returned to his former sitting position. Gingerly taking her arm in his hands again, he lightly cleaned off her skin, then turned the towel to the dry side and dried it off. Dropping the towel on the mat next to the kit, he picked up the bandage and pulled the butterfly clips off of it and stuck them between his lips. Gently he wrapped the bandage tightly around her wrist, taking his time as he worked. When he finished he pulled the clips out from his lips and secured the end of the bandage. Examining his handiwork, he gave her a soft smile that was reflected warmly in his eyes.

"There you go. Good as new. I'm glad it was only a sprain. I'm really sorry. It could have been so much worse," he said softly.

Jess watched him work with interest, realising the unfortunatly he'd probably had to do this kind of thing more than he should have.
Once he had finished she lifted her arm to examine his work.
"Good job." She smiled placing her good hand on his shoulder and levering herself up. "Remember Shaidey, it was my fault. Not yours." She said giving him a heavy pat on the shoulder. "I could have broken one of your ribs with that fall."

Giving a sigh she looked around the dojo and winced. "Hmm, would you mind putting the mats back and closing the doors up. I'd help but I really need this to be healed as soon as possible. I can't do archery until it's healed up."

Kayne smiled at her praise as she pushed herself up. Quickly he followed suit and looked down at his shoulder as she patted it. At her next comment, he couldn't help it. The words just flowed right out of him.

"No kidding Sensei," he said grabbing his left side. "You should seriously consider not eating out so much. I think it's starting to catch up with you," he smirked. He then prodded his rib cage with his fingers as if checking for something. "I seriously doubt it would have just been one rib. You're awfully heavy." He gave her a small wink and took a small step back. Weight was one topic that was liable to get you hit when teasing a woman about it.

"I don't mind at all," he said bending down to pick up the kit and towel. He quickly threw the towel in the laundry and replaced the kit on its shelf then returned to the mats. "You're going to have to get off though. I've already tried to lift you once today," he grinned, picking up two mats that she wasn't standing on.

Jess raised an eyebrow and smirked at him. She was glad he had got over the worry of having hurt her enough to joke around again.
"Haha, you know what Shaidey, I am heavy. I'll give you that. But you know, my dear. It's all muscle so I can kick the arses of loudmouths like yourself." She was tempted to stick her tongue out, but that would just be childish.

She gave a small snort of amusement and stepped off the mats at his lifting comment.
"This doesn't mean you get out of practice this week though. I can still watch you practice the blocking moves I taught you today."
PostPosted: Sat Apr 22, 2006 8:56 pm

"Sure. Muscle. Okay," he teased, as he slid the mats back into the store room. He returned and grabbed two more.

"Who said I was trying to get out practice? You're the one who got herself hurt," he grinned, sliding the mats in next to the others. "You don't get off so lightly you know," he returned, grabbing the last two. He quickly slid them in the store room and shut the door.

"Well Sensei. I'll see you tomorrow morning bright and early. I'll make sure to tell Kusani how easy it was to beat you up so that he won't be surprised to see you lamed up," he said shoving some of his hair out of his eyes. "Thanks for the lessons Sensei. I think I'm going to enjoy them. I'll see you tomorrow," he smiled, giving her a short wave of his hand then started to make his way out of the dojo.

"Riight." She said waving back and shaking her head as he left. Usung her good hand she went about locking the doors and flipping off all the lights.

She smiled. She was enjoying having someone to share her sports with. It was like being back at the dojo again. Probably the only place in her life where she had felt at home.
