The reaction was probably surprising, but Lilly didn't look to happy. "Aye, boy, you best be settlin' done. While I like the fact yer not a coward I'm gonna have to kick out of here, ya shouldn't get all enthusastic and arrogant just because you can claw at a tree, either. Stuff like that'll get ya killed in a real battle." Or at the very least, you'd lose an eye.

And she was speaking from experience.

Her hand reached up and ran through what little of her hair wasn't in that braid. "Honestly, I can't teach ya too much to do with them, Cat. Never had claws meself, and only fought one person with them, and he wasn't very good." She tapped her chin. "Mm... I'll give ya a weapon, though. I can teach ya with that."

Settling down? But he was hear to learn new ways to defend himself to that that wouldn't happen. "That's why I have to train more, so that doesn't happen. I want to be able to protect everyone."

Sadly though it seemed he wouldn't be learning anything new about using his fists or claws today. Instead, a weapon. But weapons were good. "Ok, I'm ready to learn about whatever weapon you want to teach me." He quickly stood up more to show he was paying as close attention to what she said as he ever did. Learning about anything was a lot better than learning about nothing. He'd just have to practice with claws on his own. If they could be a good weapon he had to learn to use them.

Mixed feelings about this kid. Not a coward, which was good. But he had that annoying 'movie hero determination' going on. Ick.

"...Right. Well, yer the best one I've had so far, and frankly I'm bored, so follow me then." With a careless gesture she flung her hand forward and started walking. Soon, a large, wooden shed of poor quality was within their vision. It looked as though it'd fall apart any second.

Lilly opened the door, and flicked a light switch, causing the room to light up.

Despite the outside, the inside was quite an amazing display. Weapons lined the walls, some appearing brand new, and others as if they'd turn to dust upon a touch. To the right were axes and bows, and to the left daggers and swords, scattered along the back wall were other things: scythes, whips, quiver of arrows.

Near the doorway was an desk and chair, and in the center of the room was a fancy glass case containing a very long dragon claw tipped in a dull red color.

"Ever come in here again, I'll kill ya," Lilly informed first off. "Anyhow, go on and pick one of them swords over there."

Best one so far? That was definitely a good thing, and it showed on his face with a huge smile. The boy followed after the teacher beaming as she led the way to the shed. Appearances didn't mean much to Keanu so he didn't bother to observe that the place looked as ricket as a tower of cards. The teacher had brought him here, which meant it had to be important and special.

And it was. It was something akin to a battle freaks heaven.

The boy stared momentarily in shock at the wondrous display before him. Just about anything he could look up in his book looked like it was here. Some ancient and others sparkling with the gleam of a fresh polish. Definitely something akin to heaven.

Which made it very sad that he could never go in there again. "Yes ma'am!" He quickly replied to both demands and started over toward the swords.

Which one..? He mused a moment before spotting the most probable thing he'd choose. What looked almost identical to one of the swords in one of those books he had describing heros. What better kind of weapon could there be?

"I like this one." He quickly indicated the sword, but hesitated about picking it up without permission. He obviously didn't want to upset her, this place was special, right?

"Then quit wastin' me time and pick it up." Honestly, children were so stupid. Lilly rolled her eye and walked forward. She snatched up a sword with no thought what so ever. Picking one out didn't seem to be a big priority with her, just so long as she had one. "Alright, let's go back outside. For the record, 'em not responsible for any eyes ya poke out."

Or limbs cut off. Throats slashed. Etc, etc.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:16 pm

He quickly snagged the sword at the command. Still, he didn't worry over hurting himself with the blade. Not even when she went on to claim she wasn't responsible for any injuries. If he got hurt is just meant he wasn't good enough yet. That he'd need to practice more. "Understood." He chimed as headed out the door.

Just another step toward becoming a true hero.

When they reached the spot they had been, Lilly tossed the sword to the side and watched it clunk against the ground. Then she fell back herself, tucked her arms behind her head and closed her eye.

"I don't spar with kiddies," she told him, and her voice left no room for arguement. "We're done with the first part, but yer dismissed till ya find another person yer age to come here and clash blades with ya. Now drop it and get outta my sight. I'll leave 'em here till you find someone."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:31 pm

He made sure to keep up and stared slightly confused as she tossed the blade away. She couldn't be thinking about sparring bare handed..? Was she that good!? Though the words that came next obviously dashed that question. ...partially. She could still possibly just be that good.

"Eh. Alright," He nodded and left the blade near the other one. Someone his age to spare with? Well he'd find someone. "I'll be back soon." He quickly called before hurrying off to hunt someone down.

~~

Keanu had darted past where Ymir was dozing before long and was inside the school hunting for someone that would work. Someone his age to spare with. He made his way along the coridoors in near silence, sliding a bit when he darted around a corner too quickly until he spotted someone.

He didn't really know the kid, but he looked like he was about his age.

So without bothering to say more than a quick. "Come on we're gonna go learn how to use swords!" He grabbed the other boy's arm and began down the hall again. He'd drag the kid if he didn't come with. It wasn't an option unless he managed to stop the leopard. Which was highly unlikely, he was one a mission. He would prevail.

So after a bit of run he headed back out toward the forest where he'd left Lilly and the swords. Past Ymir who briefly glanced up at KEanu.

His partner was dragging what looked like a goat behind him excitedly. Still, everything looked fine, and D-Corp was safe enough(besides he didn't want to deal with that woman again). Thus the dragon flopped back down to wait some more for the lesson to be over.

Which left the newly 'froced' child to deal with an overly excited leopard and Lilly. Which one could be more frightening was somewhat of a tossup.

"I found someone, Lilly! We can practice now!"

With all these classes, Lilly didn't get enough sleep. Most of her day was spent teaching, and most of the night was spent raging about how she wanted to ring a certain child's neck or just beat them senseless. During rare instances the student would instead be another teacher, or just another random adult.

Personally, Muffin was just convinced his partner had insomnia, and slept only when painfully bored or completely exhausted. He guessed it was the first, this time, that had her snoring loudly until the two boys rushed up to them.

--Well, one did, the other seemed to be just along for the ride.

Lilly yawned broadly, opening her eye and glancing over. "How bout that. So ya did. And what's yer name, Fuzzy?"

Anoki had been minding his own business. Or rather, Raven's business, since he was on his way to ask for some boring spell ingredient from a labtech. He didn't get more than halfway there, however, when a furry kid with a weird smile grabbed his arm, said something about swords, and pulled him off in the opposite direction.

Even though he was boggled, he followed without much complaint. One reason was that whatever this kid had in mind was probably better than poking around musty spells all day. The other was that there was a bit of fear that if he didn't do what the kid said, he might get hurt.

As it turned out, he might get hurt anyway.

The forest looked nice. The teacher looked a bit scary. Anoki gulped. "Anoki K-kenelm. M-miss."

"Anoki, Anoki..." Lilly sat up, then stood, brushing herself off. The name rang a bell, like it was one she should've actually bothered remember. Anoki, Anoki...

And it hit her.

The woman grinned broadly, setting closer to Anoki in a way that a more timid person would consider threatening. "Aye, is that right? Always wanted to meet Birdy's boy. Yer pretty much what'd I expect her to raise."

Oh, this would be fun. "Get yer sword, Cat, and ya take the other one," she said to Anoki. "These here are broadswords. They're used in Kuntao, Hsing-Yi Chaun, Pakua and maybe some other stuff. Whatever the case may be, I don't waste me time with all that official stuff. If that's what ya wanna learn go find one of them by-the-book teachers. All I'm gonna teach ya is how to survive using one of these."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:31 pm

Anoki didn't know what was going on, or who "Birdy" was, but the woman told her to pick up a sword. He knew what that was, at least, from some of his reading, but he didn't really know how to use one. Still, it was clear that he was being given a direction, and the woman looked like a teacher, so he hurried to obey.

The sword was heavy in his hands. He needed both of them to pick it up initially, and kept holding it with its point down as he listened to Lilly talk. He was probably supposed to remember it later. But then she said that she wasn't going to teach them from books. That might be a nice change.

Of course, he then thought with a wince, if it meant getting hurt like that, maybe it wasn't worth it.

((ICly this thread started before Ikurai started teaching Keanu about swords. So you're in a bit of luck. XD *Checked timeline stuff yesterday night.*))

Great, the partner he'd found was approved. He quickly snagged up the sword as directed, mildly confused about what the teacher was talking about. It seemed to do with the other kid's parents, or parent as the case was, but other than that. He didn't have any idea.

Turning his attention back to the other child, who was now armed with his own sword he grinned. This would be great, finally he got to start learning things beyond just hand to hand. Stuff his mum wouldn't be pleased about, but she couldn't say no to. "Nice to meet you, Anoki. Let's learn a lot." Which meant he just wanted to learn as much as possible and Anoki better not lag behind. He expected the same from others as he did himself when it came to learning to fight. Which were rather high expectations.

"Aye," Lilly grumbled. Honestly, she wanted to go back to sleep, even though this was more eventful than most of the other classes she'd hosted. "Mmkay. Both of ya got broadswords. Birdy's boy, yours be about 90 cm of a blade, 'round 105 cm all together. Kitty Cat's should be 'bout the same."

She peered at Keanu's weapon and seemed to confirm it was. "Aye now, this is a serious thing, weapons. When yer swordfighting, it's kill or be killed, it's not a game. Hope, spirit, and heart dun mean nothing if the person yer facing is more skilled than ya. In any case, never hesitate."

Anoki forced himself to pay attention. If this teacher was anything like Raven, she would probably test him on everything later. And there was a lot to remember. 95cm blade. 105cm overall. Well, maybe not that much.

As Lilly went on, he nodded. Of course weapons weren't a game! At home he wasn't even allowed to touch kitchen knives, and there he was holding a real sword. He wondered what Raven would say, but quickly put it out of his mind and refocused. Hope and spirit meant nothing compared to skill. Never hesitate.

Blinking in surprise, Anoki tilted his head. It was the opposite of what he was taught. In magic, you needed all the spirit you could muster. And you had to wait until you were sure you could do it right. It was all very confusing.
