Something just came to me:
If the goal of life was simply to reproduce, then why couldn't you reproduce with some random other person and be satisfied with life?

Things would be easier that way.

(grins) This is why I do not believe this is the purpose to life.

The 'purpose of life' changes for each person - as it can obviously be seen through these posts.

As for my thoughts, I believe the purpose of life is to love and glorify God, as well as let His light shine to others. Happiness is indeed important, but I do not consider it my ultimate goal.

If my purpose in life is to glorify God, I wish he'd have let me know in a believable manner.

I think that it is happyness, I dont remember who but when reading thsi thread they said that the thigns that you did to achive hapiness are not morally right that you are not happy, but we all have a differant set of morralls, I for one think that there shouldnt be a death penalty, thats just my own set of moralls.

And as for the thing where if the purpose of life was to mate then why cant you do it with soem random person and be satisfied? Well think about it, who we mate with is always wanting to be better, because when you mate with better peopel better offspring arise and so at the end since only the best are mating then only the best are there to be the supirior species or what ever. Thats why you cant be satisfied with some random person.

(chuckles) Yeah, that might be why it always changes. Humans are greedy little creatures. We always want something more, something new, something better than we have now. It is said that people do kill themselves once they find life has no purpose anymore.

What is the ultimate goal of life?

Some will argue that humans exist only to procreate.
Others (including myself) will argue that the ultimate goal of life is happiness.
Maybe life has no goal.

According to the ideals of philosophy there must be a truth.
The goal here is to discover that truth, and then prove it.

The meaning of life is different to each individual. There are some people, as you have said, that believe it only to procreate and pass on their genes and others believe it to be happiness. To prove this, the goal in life is ultimatly is to find inner peace and be happy with what you have done, thus happiness. But along the way, either by force or by choice, you pass on your genes, thus the meaning of life is to be happy and to procreate.

Personaly, the meaning of life is to not bother looking for one and just live life without worrying over something like that. That way, you live healthy and practicaly immune to sickness (ehh... not really but theoreticly. Please just go with it for the sake of the argument.). It is a peace of the mind that is what I believe that will give us the answer to life. There is no real answer to the question, for the meaning of life is to live. The real question is how a person chooses to live his/her life... then there is your answer.

There is some hormonal drive behind this. Certain traits attract two people, be it unknown smells or just the aura around them (if you believe in auras that is), and still this process has people baffled about it. A certain satisfaction must come from this. From the female's perspective (being if you haven't read my profile in the standing topic I belive it to be called, I am a woman behind this character...), it is something about how they hold themselves and how they articulate. But, being as I haven't been attracted to anyone, I don't know. In other words, it just wouldn't feel right emotionaly if a person just walked up to you and said, " Hey, let's just go off and procreate. Who knows, our offspring might just be the last there ever will be." Actualy, that person would get a sharp slap and be thrown in jail or into a mental institution.... eek

At the moment I'm thinking that life has no goal, though I don't mean to say that I wouldn't ever not consider there being a goal to our existence. From my point of view there's got to be a reason where here, otherwise why are we here? Life just doesn't make sense to me. Why? How? Or are we really even here? Reproducing would only continue on my question of us actually being here and alive.

The purpose of life? Simply put, it depends. Being satisfied doesn't come into it. Knowing your purpose does not bring satisfaction, and often causes an emptiness that can never be fulfilled, because you either have no free will or are not fulfilling your purpose. Everyone (with the exception of a few) wants to succeed. Everyone thinks they want to know their purpose in life. They don't really. They want to be told a most disturbing untruth, which may or may not actually BE the truth: "The purpose of your life is to be happy, regardless of the cost."

Feeling that your life has no purpose is counterproductive to happiness.
Therefore, I think that knowing your purpose, or choosing your own purpose in life is important.

Also -- if the price is too great, then happiness cannot be achieved.
Therefore, happiness should not be achieved at any cost -- but happiness should be a main priority.

There it is. You have to CHOOSE your purpose, if you are ever to truly be satisfied with your life. Most people would prefer to shelter in the idealology of free will, so the knowledge of your purpose would create an immense dissatisfaction within their very being. Not many people enjoy being the plaything of another. Especially if they never know if that other actually cares about them as a person, or even exists.

Happines??
That's just another impulse in your brain. The ultimate goal of life is to be an eficient worker, and to acomplish something.

That's at least mine goal.

There is not set goal for life. I know it would be all nead and ok, if we wouldn't have to chouse anything, but that's just how it goes.

No one will give you a meaning for your live for nothing. Not even a god.
