Harabu smirked and spoke without looking at her, "I don't know my masters wishes. We will be going to the jungle and you will wait there for him. You can't go to the pridelands before you are met by him, the lands are kept secret from outsiders. Something he should really think about. Why he hides, I dont know!" He chuckled a little thinking that Nyek must be scared of something, so was weak somewhere.

"Oh," was all Amani could say in reply. It was odd that he would say the land they were going to was secret from outsiders. Wasn't she an outsider? She frowned with the question and thought about asking him. She shook it off.

Harabu didn't say much the rest of the way, after all there wasn't much point in it all was there? He just walked.
As they entered the jungle he led her to the clearing in the middle and that is where he laid down and started to lick his paw. "You may rest here we have travelled far. Don't wander off, the leopards have been known to eat us youngsters for dinner." It wasn't totally true about the leopards, but he had heard they weren't to friendly towards lions.
He then closed his eyes to rest, not sleep but just rest.

Amani's eyes widened at his comment, but she just ruffled her fur and laid down. She watched him through half-closed eyes. "Harabu... What happened to you?" she asked cautiously. She fully expected him not to answer. Who ever liked talking about their past, anyways? But she had to ask, just so that she didn't go on wondering if he would say anything or not.

Harabu turned to look at her and just smiled, softly for once though it didn't last. He let out a snarl and turned his head away from her. "Life happened. Now rest." He licked at his paw a little more, hoping she would fall asleep or something.

Her ears went down in apology and she blinked slowly. "I'm sorry," Amani whispered and looked at his paw. "Is there something wrong with your paw?" she asked.

Harabu turned and sighed, "Its dirty. Do you ever stop talking? You seem so cheerful!" It annoyed him slightly how she could be cheerful, he would never be able to be like that. His memory would never stop haunting him.

Amani nodded and closed her eyes. She wouldn't bother him again. She wouldn't argue, either. She wasn't cheerful. She was sorry for him. Sorry that he seemed to have had a terrible time before.
But she wasn't about to tell him that!

Harabu sniffed around and once she was quiet turned to look at her again. "My mother was horrid. My old pride would have loved you, hated me. Things happened. Thats all." He then rested his head on his paw and tilted it slightly. He waited for her response, if any.

She didn't open her eyes but shook her head. "I remember you said something about your mother before," Amani said and considered telling him she was sorry for that. She figured, what harm could it do? That was how she felt.
"I'm sorry that happened. It's not fair for them to have hated you," she said and moved her head slightly on her paws, to find a more comfortable position.

He let a snarl appear in his throat and turned to her, "Sorry, you think that would change anything? You females are all the same! You think your on top of the world and no one can hurt you." He stood up and walked oer to her. His eyes narrowed but he didn't say anything, he turned and went to drink some cold water.

She flinched at his reaction and squeezed her eyes together. When he walked away, she sighed and shook her head. "No one can hurt me, huh? I wish," Amani whispered and tried to go to sleep. She wished she wasn't afraid of everything bigger than her, but she was. Even creatures that ate plants scared her because they could trample her if she got under their feet.

Harabu didn't hear her last words but laid down by the stream he would wait a while to see if Nyek came past before looking for him, after al it might take some time to find the large lion!

Amani dozed for a little bit, but couldn't put herself into a full sleep. It wasn't that she wasn't tired, becuase she was, at least a little. She just had this feeling of unease, like something wasn't right. She opened her eyes slightly and watched Harabu.

Harabu curled up, his tail flicking every now and then. Mainly to show that he wasn't asleep. His ears were pricked up as he listened to the jungle sounds hoping that Nyek would be near by somewhere.
