I plan on enlisting in the Marines as a Abrams gunner, and I've got a question.. I live in North Carolina, so from what I've seen, I'll go to Parris Island, then off where ever the advanced training is. BTW, do east coast marine tankers train at Fort Knox, or do they go out to Twentynine Palms? So, anyways, after I'm done with training, would I go to Camp Lejeune, and join the 2nd Tank Battalion, or is there the possibility of being shipped to Camp Pendleton? The reason I ask is Lejeune isnt all that far from where I live, and I just thought it would be nice to be closer to home...

That's correct Necros_Xildur. You will go to Parris Island for boot camp, from there after you're done with boot camp and your MOS training, there is no telling where you'll go. After MOS school, you'll get assigned to a unit and you'll have to report to them, wherever that unit may be stationed. Could be 29 Palms, could be some place else. From what I've seen most tankers go to 29 Palms, though. Hope this answers some of your questions.
Yeah, I'll be going on my 2nd tour to Iraq in April of 2007.

Alright, thanks for that Mobbs. There's a tank battalion out at Palms, but there's also one at Lejeune. Guess it'll be wherever they need to fill holes.

Then tank crewman train at Fort Knox.

I'm not a Marine yet, but I leave for basic (going to Parris Island) in early January. I haven't been given an exact date yet. I'm going into the beloved 0300.

i also have a question. Do piolets also get a camoflauge uniform? i want to be an fa-18 marine piolet

Semper Fi brothers and sisters! I'm a 1LT now in the reserves, currently task forced with an MP Bn in Texas babysitting a Navy Weapons Depot. Before that I was a Scout/Sniper with a Recon unit. Proud to see so many people here who have heard the call of the Corps. I'm currently stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. 3rd Batallion, 5th Marine Regiment. My MOS is 0311, and I'm currently the platoon RO (Radio Operator). Rank, LCPL.
