"Fun? Me? That's a new one." He flicked his tail round to bat her nose lightly, jokingly. Really, he'd only met a few cheetahs since he'd come down river on a human boat - quite by accident - and all were female. And one thought she was a lion and wasn't in the coalition. So. Not much to tell her that she wouldn't soon know.
"You're fun too. Now...after six comes seven. Then eight."

Kari gasps and attempts to duck Uri's tail when it comes flying at her nose suddenly, the tactic fails and she gets tapped in the nose- then she just giggles. What a good example of how fun Uri is!
"Aw," she says through her giggles, slowly calming down. Once she does, she stays attentive, with her ears perked forward and her eyes on Uri.
"Six, seven, eight," she repeats after him, "One, two, three, four, si- FIVE, six, seven, eight." Kari nods a couple of times, twitching a bit as her mind lingers on the near slip up- six is after five. After five. Uri told her that.

"Very good, you're a fast learner; just don't forget the five, dear."
Uri beamed from his comfortable position. A bright one, he was right. Of course he was right. And soon, the pink princess'd be right to. Just up to ten. Then he'd take her. Reeeally.
"After eight is nine, then ten."

One two three four six seven eight one two three four five seven eight..
nonono...
one two three four five... six seven eight.
"Nine, ten?" Kari repeats after Uri, beaming at him the entire time- until she'd realized her mental error, but she resumed a cheerful expression. She ran over the numbers in her head again, then got to her feet and stood straight and proud.
"One," she counted, "two, three, four.."
She nods, "five, six-" this time she grins, remembering the two she'd mixed up, "seven, eight.."
A frown. What did he say was next? She'd paid attention!
"E-eight," she repeats, thinking for a couple seconds, "N- n- nine! Ten."

"Wonderful! What a clever girl you are Kari." Uri got to his feet and nudged the small one's shoulder, clearly affectionate. He actually felt a rush of pride; which was odd as it was not for himself; and to think, it was just because she'd made up up to ten. The smokey cheetah cringed inwardly to think how one silly little cub could make him smile so.
"You be counting up to a hundred in no time." Just a little longer?

Kari wiggles excitedly when Uri praises her, easily being pushed a little to the side from the nudge. She's done well if Uri is so happy about it! And she got all the way to ten without making a mistake.
"You're so nice for helping me," she squeaks, continuing with much enthusiasm, "You think I could really get all the way to a hundred? You have to help me~"

"I'll help" He sighed as started to walk towards the waterhole, confident one of the female'd be there. Must. Not. Get. Attatched. To. Cub!
"We'll count as we go. Now. After ten comes eleven." Uri paused to look over his shoulder, making sure she was following and could keep up with his much longer strides.
"Then twelve."

Kari grins widely, leaping sideways to try to let some of her excitement out. Uri's continuing agreement to help her makes her very happy- it means even though she hasn't been able to remember her numbers perfectly he still likes her. It takes her a couple of seconds to realize that he's started to walk off, and with a gasp she scrambles to catch back up with him.
"Ten, eleven," she repeats after him, staying a little ways behind him in her attempts to keep up, "Ten, eleven, twelve!"

The white-spotted cat slowed his pace in an attempt to accomodate her speed. Uri meandered away from the direct path to the water. Stealing a little time, even though he was scenting the air discreetly for traces of one of the adults - all female. It irked him slightly there were no male adults...but one day, that position would be his.
"After twelve starts a trend, dear one, so it should be easy to remember. You're doing well, now - Twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifthteen."

Once he slows down a bit she jumps forward so she can stay beside him rather than behind him- he has such long legs! It's good he slowed down, though! Not knowing where exactly they're going, or that she should perhaps be aware of scents wherever she goes, she just follows him cheerfully.
"A trend?" she repeats, dare she ask what a trend is?
"Ok," Kari nods, then repeats after him as best she can, "Ten, eleven, twelve, fourteen fifthteen."
She crinkles her nose as she tries to figure out from those numbers just what a trend is. The last two both had teen on the end, maybe a trend means they end in teen?

"A trend is when things follow a pattern, darling...like thirteen, fourteen, fifteen." He caught the questioning lilt and answered it without thinking if it really was a question or not. "Or unlike my spots, which don't follow a trend and are scattered" - starlike - "over my" -beautiful - "pelt."
Uri paused to look at her, offering another encouraging smile. "Understand? And you're doing well, but you missed thirteen, Kari"

She nods slowly along with his explanation of what a trend is, beaming proudly for having guessed that the trend with the numbers was the 'teen,' even if she misinterpretted that conclusion. At the mention of his spots she looks over his legs and side- the area she can see from where she is- there's no pattern to them? Just randomly on his fur?
"Ooh, neat," she murmurs, looking back to where they walk.
"I- I did?" Kari asks quietly, "Where does thirteen go again?"

"Between twelve and fourteen, my friend, just as three comes between two and four. Do you see the patterning?"
Perhaps he was going into too much...detail? Trends and patterns. He wondered if she'd understand, she was doing so well with numbers as it was. Uri paused at the water, scanning for other meateaters and the more fierce prey, but saw nothing - not even a bird come down for a bath.
Not another cheetah either. Bother. Erm, what now -
"Try from the start again, dear, we'll see how you're doing. Or have a drink, if you'd prefer."

"Twelve, thirteen, fourteen," Kari repeats, more to herself than to Uri, "Liiike.. two, three, four. Twelve, thirteen, fourteen. Two, three, four."
She laughs aloud when she makes the connection, nodding, "I get it, so if I know up to ten I can get the rest." The pink cheetah makes a great assumption about the rest of the number, but is content with it. She stops by the water's edge, looking around in a mimic of Uri's actions.
She doesn't see anything, but she doesn't know what they're looking for.
"Again," she nods, "Ooone, twooo, threee, foooour.. five, six, seven, n- ni- eight, nine! Then ten.. and.. um.."
Kari pauses, trying to remember what came before twelve, which she knows is next. It doesn't follow the pattern, she knows that for sure- oneteen isn't what she'd been told. She flattens her ears, looking to Uri for prompting.

Uri mentally followed her, then frowned. Okay, so, he might have a good pupil but he wasn't exactly a perfect teacher - still he thought he wasn't fareing badly. Settling down, lowering him self to drink, he spared her a gaze.
"Eleven. Which doesn't match up with one like the trend would suggest. With every rule there are exceptions...such as eleven or a hundred. Sorry, should have mentioned it. But you're really doing well."
And with that, he started lapping up water.
((Shall we invite Kel or someone else? Or are you content with these two wandering about talking about numbers? ^^ ))
