Now why would I say that. =P I'm not that mean, am I?

Well I seem to be getting reactions to that gist whenever I post anywhere lately.

Did you include de Maurier's Trilby? That was part of the inspiration for Phantom. Very good story.

Hmn. I wouldn't have noticed, but I just go around making sure stuff is all in their respective places. *petpet*

PhantomoftheFox
Fiction: Geek Love by Katherine Dunn is delightfully disturbing, about a family of sideshow freaks.

The Scarlet Pimpernel (and sequels) by Baroness Orczy

And I liked The Elephant Man: A Play by Bernard Pomerance. Very touching.

I know, I know... *coughs* Get out of your thread.

Dude. What are you talking about? The first and the third sound really overwhelimingly awesome.

Geek Love... "A wild, often horrifying, novel about freaks, geeks and other aberrancies of the human condition who travel together (a whole family of them) as a circus. It's a solipsistic funhouse world that makes "normal" people seem bland and pitiful. Arturo the Aqua-Boy, who has flippers and an enormous need to be loved. A museum of sacred monsters that didn't make it. An endearing "little beetle" of a heroine. Sort of like Tod Browning's Freaks crossed with David Lynch and John Irving and perhaps George Eliot -- the latter for the power of the emotions evoked."

Aaand The Elephant Man: A Play... It's basically just the script of the play, which tells the story of Merrick through the eyes of his doctor, but just reading the dialogue it's heart-wrenching.

David Lynch...David Lynch...why does that name sound so familliar?

He was that guy who made Eraserhead, wasn't he? *Blinkblink* *Backs away*

Hrm. I think so. I'm a bigger fan of the second book. Got it signed, in fact.

It's really freaky. Really freaky. See, I created this character, back when I was twelve. And for the first year, he was pretty much the same. Later on, he evolved into a very different character who I still use. Thing is, in the second book, the character Letheo is almost exactly like the character I had first created when I was twelve. Not just in personality, but in the change he goes through. Reading that, I was like: gonk Whee! *Bounceboncebounce*

heart Letheo.

Don't forget:

Hamlet (Shakepeare)
The Dark Tower series (Stephen King)
Petshop of Horrors (Matsuri Akino)

There's got to be at least one King series/book up there. These are just his best work.

It's a very good book. Maguire has a odd humor.

Speaking of odd humor, "A Dirty Job" by Christopher Moore's quite amusing.
