Because Lex has Character and brings story and conflict into smallville. how boring would smallville be if it didn't have Lex. If you don't like evil, then go watch Barney.

What would Clark do or be without Lex? well 1) u can do other things to be a hero. like in real life u can help the homeless, rasie money, and do alot of other things to make u a good person. 2) clark has tons and tons of enemys. its more interesting with lex i guess but i still dont like him

then that would TOTALLY ruin the point of smallville. Why does Clark have those enemies? becuase they were mishaps of Luthorcorp experiments and Meteor freaks (who come on but never return).

Yeah you can do those things to be a hero but Clark is a SUPERhero so he needs Lex cause he is Clark's number one acrh enemy. I mean there would be no point to Smallville or superman without Lex.

Exactly. You can be a Hero by being charitable, or a fireman... but Clark is a SUPER hero like Lana said
