Better? This ship? Tavihe would have scoffed at the idea, if they weren't bowled over with emotion at what Illapha was doing to them. His palm was rough from hard work against their mouth, his other hand a heated brand against their chest. After a moment of staring soundlessly into his eyes, Tavihe blinked and realized at some point tears had gathered there. They impatiently thumbed them away, then gently pried his hand from their mouth with an insistent tug at his wrist.
"What do you want, Illapha?" They breathed, looking at him earnestly. "I'm too selfish to stop this just because you have a conscience. We'll be careful - I'll take the tea every night if I have to, but I'm not giving you up unless you make me."

"I want…" Illapha considered for a moment, then leaned down to press their faces together, pressing a gentle kiss to Tavihe's lips in what he hoped was reassuring, if not an apology. "I don't know what kind of parents we'd be, Tavi. But if something happens, I need to know we won't give them up just because it's hard."
He hadn't told Tavihe about his own childhood yet, but already he loved this nebulous little creation too much to ever put them through what his mother did.
"If you can't accept that, then I - I can't- I can't risk it until things are safe here for them."

Huh. So… he wouldn't continue this thing between them if Tavihe wasn't willing to dip and run, and keep whatever kid sprung up because of it. It wasn't as if it was a deal breaker - abstinence wasn't Tavihe's preference, but the benefit of their biology was that they could still be intimate with their partner without risk of pregnancy if they had to.
They could conclude that they wouldn't want to be a parent. That wouldn't end this thing between them, it would just lock away a physical connection that they really enjoyed - not the end of the world.
… It was funny, realizing that at no point had Tavihe ever once considered that Illapha simply wasn't worth it all, because honestly they didn't think they'd want to give him up for anything. He was their fragile, stubborn, complicated little earthling and they were too greedy to let him go now.
Tavihe considered for a long time, long enough that they knew they weren't just giving an answer to assauge Illapha's feelings. Then, they sighed and shrugged a shoulder. "… I promise. If… if we get pregnant, I'll run with them." Or they'd make sure, one way or another, that the captain's goons didn't get their hands on their sprog.

Illapha gave Tavihe time to decide, impatient but stubbornly keeping it contained, until finally Tavihe gave their answer. Immediately, Illapha sagged in relief and embraced them tightly, pressing careful kisses to their face. "Good. Good. Thank you." He gave them a tight squeeze.

Great. Tavihe giggled, despite themselves, as their face was speckled with kisses, squirming just a bit until Illapha calmed and just held onto them. It wasn't like they were pregnant right now - this was all just a what-if scenario, a future that probably wouldn't happen. After all - they'd never been especially careful, and it hadn't happened so far.
Now that they were being extra careful, there was no way it'd happen NOW. Right?
