Aisling 8 She raced out after her mother, her feet as custom in their family when not in the forge were bare. She detested being out of contact with mother earth her other mother.
It was now that the shear size of the ranch started to become apparent. When you had this many animals in one spot you needed a lot of space to handle it. The ranch sprawled out before them, bordered and bisected by stands of palms and patches of flowers and vegetation. Plus a large culinary garden with flowers by the main house which was by itself a hulk.
An attendant youngling led them to the requested pens. Kinfa first which was more of a brooder than anything. It was there that there were many young kinfa's racing around and playing. Seemingly they had a lot of energy young and that was how they built up the strength to one day be birds that could fly into battle with people on their backs. How exciting!
At her mother's nod she took a very good look.
She waited for the feeling of connection and picked one of the kinfa's. A dark blue male with red eyes and sky blue markings on his head and the same color blue spots down his back. His tail had a bright red banding pattern. He was so handsome.
Kinfa it was.
Wait she was being led to another pen.

She saw the exact moment when delight hit her daughters face. Excellent she had figured it out really quickly, Sao was quite proud. This was the culmination of her lineage. She wondered if her daughter would chose an Elaria or an Alk one day far in the future for a partner or perhaps..an earthling or Kahi? It could happen. Sao thought it unlikely but one never knew. One of the older sisters had an iceling mate and lived in Matori. Zuella and Kellye. They had a small house here on the ranch too. Everyone was connected somehow by one way or another. It boded well for the ranch and they always brought in new blood. A thriving community it had become with the village so close and supported well by the ranch itself. Both places drew tourists and buyers of all kinds.
"A booming place here isn't it Aisling? Go on choose a snaptrotter for yourself now. That way it will be your own ride home and not a boring Quhar. She grinned at her daughter and caught her in her arms as the child threw herself at her mother.

She cried with joy as she hugged her mom super tight. "Thank you!" She bawled. This was the best day ever. She looked at the oodles of options for a long time while her mom filled out the required paperwork for her order of two critters. The gold was exchanged and Aisling still looked on. Eventually she approached a dark green female with light green spots by the river and made her choice.
"Oh yes, definitely this lady. This lady is just what I want for an adult best friend critter. She confimed and was handed a halter. She put it on and led her new prize out of the pen to meet her other new prize which was perched expectantly on her mother's shoulder with a tie and band around its leg. Once they were properly bonded the band could come off but it was a good return measure for right now as it had her mother's info on it in case her new kinfa got lost. She was still in shock a new kinfa and a new snaptrotter! Her bedroom was going to be quite crowded and she would have more chores but she was the happiest youngling going.

Her purse was lighter but she had gotten the friends and family discount despite her protests to the contrary and nothing could beat the bright light that had sprung into her daughters eyes. Maybe she would be a guardian one day. It was still way too early to tell but she thought between that and blacksmith like herself. Aisling just had to get the creative spark going that was all. But she would support her daughter no matter what she ended up deciding on. This in particular would be a day neither of them would forget and wasn't that what family was all about. That and having a tiny related best friend that wore most of your face and sassed you back.
She knew what would happen in the teenage years but at least life wouldn't be boring in her house ever again. Plus she would give Aisling a sister as soon as she was able to. Then they would add to the family by one more. It would grow like any good acorn.

They settled the critters in and about their cabin as the snaptrotter was truly to large to go inside. It was a smaller cabin after all and not built for hosting that size of critter, her mama barely fit in some parts of the cabin. But the beast ranch always provided and there was space for her snaptrotter in a small attached lean too and paddock. It was so neat to have critters. She couldn't stop staring at either of them and her mother had to remind her to eat.
She would ask to sleep in the stable tonight with her snaptrotter. She was pretty sure her mom would say yes so long as she behaved herself and let her mom relax in the sun and at the beach like she wanted to. Aisling would bring a book to read so she wouldn't get too bored.
That was how they spent the rest of the day and a great deal of their impromptu vacation. They were able to head home overland with no great diffiiculty and Aisling couldn't wait to try travel again!
