It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t careful. It was raw, desperate, the kind of kiss that tasted like adrenaline and unspoken words.
Mirin melted into it, fingers tangling in Nedelle’s hair despite the sharp pull of pain in her side. She didn’t care.

Nedelle pulled away just enough to catch her breath, her forehead still pressed against Mirin’s. The heat of the desert was nothing compared to the warmth pooling in her chest, the pounding of her heart loud in her ears. "You scared me," she murmured, voice hoarse, her fingers tightening against Mirin’s sides as if afraid to let go. "Don’t do that again."

Mirin let out a breathless chuckle, though it was more exhaustion than humor. "No promises," she whispered, her hands still curled around Nedelle’s back. The sting of her wound was secondary, buried under the adrenaline and the rush of having her so close. "But you’re okay. That’s all that matters." The words were honest, but as she looked into Nedelle’s eyes, something else stirred beneath them—something undeniable.

Nedelle swallowed, torn between scolding her for being reckless and melting further into the safety Mirin offered. But for now, she just exhaled and let herself stay. "We should get back," she finally said, but she made no move to leave Mirin’s arms.

"Yeah," Mirin agreed softly. And yet, neither of them moved, lingering in the heat, the weight of their unspoken feelings pressing in on all sides—dangerous in a way neither of them wanted to escape.
