Thats the thing with kids. For as smart and bratty as they could be, they often were gullible. Ares' eyes had gone round with wonder and he now regarded her bow as if it was a foreign instrument.
Yeah, his mom was an archer too, but he'd never heard of a monster that big here for her to slay and honestly hadn't enjoyed the few times the string bruised his inner arm after shooting wrong.
Maybe, if they could really be strong enough to kill monsters, they weren't totally lame?
"Woah." He breathed, staring at her with renewed interest.

"Yeah, not so bad, huh?"
She knew that sword and spear wielders were typically viewed as 'stronger', at least in head to head battles, but Zakia was smart enough to know the truth. Anyone could come out on top as long as they used their head and she could even do it without getting her leathers bloody.
"You should try practicing with a bow sometime. If you can use a bow and a spear you'll have a leg up on the others in your year." Every hybrid needed an edge, right?

Ares chewed his lip thoughtfully, crossing his arms so that the rock he'd rescued was cradled against his chest. He likely would've thrown the rock, instead, if he realized what a vulnerable looking posture it was.
He didn't wanna admit to the lady that he was too proud to suddenly change his mind. His teachers weren't gonna let him back into classes easily, after the fit he'd thrown to get out of them.
"My uncle's already teaching me different fighting styles. Earthling ones. I dont need a bow - even if its not totally lame. " He lifted his chin in challenge, squinting at her suspiciously.

Zakia shrugged his shoulders. "Suit yourself." At least he wasn't doubling down on being stubborn about it. She turned to look at the waterfall, catching the sight of something as it scurried underneath the water, and with a little smile the huntress rose to stand.
"I'm gonna go track down some dinner, but stay safe out here, okay? Be a real shame if something snatched you up before you were big enough to actually use a spear."

Ares heaved an unimpressed sigh, eyeing the oddly dressed Sister as she made to leave. A bratty retort was on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed it down and instead gave a nod that he hoped looked very stoic and mature.
"Have a good hunt, Sister." Ares said instead, showing his grudging respect. After all, it wasn't like just any adult would stop to talk to him.
