“I grabbed a pretzel, but didn’t have a full lunch, I would love some food! I’ll talk with Julian and then bring him down, I’m sure he hasn’t eaten yet either.”
Or thought about it. If she knew Julian. He’d be worried and stress organizing…and Evan’s food would be just the thing that was needed. “I’m glad that I came home when I did, Ev. I’m sorry I wasn’t here when you heard the news, but if anything like this ever happens again–I don’t want anything like this to happen again, heaven forbid but…you can call me, no matter what I’m doing.”
She was sure he knew that, but…it was good to reconfirm.
“I love you. And we’ll get this taken care of…we’ll get Riker taken care of. I promise.”

“I know,” Evan promised. “I wasn’t alone. I’m just–I get antsy about phone calls. I know Soleiyu’s safe guarded things as best he can but I don’t want to make a stupid mistake and put everyone in danger. If it was something time sensitive–yeah, absolutely, I would have asked you to come home. But…this was going to be a waiting game no matter what.”
It was still a waiting game.
He wished he felt better about having time to get ready. All he could think about right now was how much he’d have rather been told that Riker would be here tonight.
Small steps. The future would come soon enough.
“I love you, too. Let me go make us all some sandwiches, at least. It won’t take long. Don’t let Julian work too hard.”

“I know.” Talia gave a small smile and let Evan stand, stretching as she did so. “See you soon. I won’t let him work too hard, never fear.” If she could help it, she wouldn’t have anyone working too hard but…sometimes…you had to. Still.
She pushed the worry she felt down as she made her way to Julian’s room, determined to give the boy anything that he might need.
