Aelfhun 8 Fortunately, the dark hybrid was too dense and self-absorbed to notice any subtle changes to her expression or body language. So instead of reacting to the twitch to her lips anyone else would have easily noticed, he kept on smiling, tilting his head a little in the way he knew to indicate interest. Even if he didn't feel all that interested in what she was saying. He liked to look at her, though.
Aelfhun watched her prepare her tea with curious golden eyes, admiring her elegant hands as they held the spoon in the steaming liquid. He almost missed what she was saying. Almost. It was a common mistake of his when talking to women, getting too caught up in watching them that he blanked on the conversation. He blinked once, looking up at her pale eyes.
"Can't be that different," he countered, taking a stir with his own spoon. No sugar. He liked his tea bitter. "You look like a woman who knows her way around the finer things."

Meine 9 What did that even mean? Was he calling her arrogant? Stuck up? Was she carrying her nose a little too high in the air? She didn't think so. Nonetheless, Meine lowered her chin closer to the table, hoping to reduce the effect without making herself seem meek or docile. Show too much weakness, even on accident, even when you knew you were anything but weak and naïve, and that would make someone else believed you gave permission to walk all over you.
To avoid narrowing her eyes at him, the girl took a sip at her tea, tilting her head back slightly and closing her eyes. At least the drink was good, even if the company was questionable.
"Yet our circles have not crossed. Have you not been in town for long? I've been here at least a year." Probably did nothing better with his time than scout around crowds for women to bother. While she was busy learning one skill after another. Making good use of her time.

Aelfhun 9 At least a year? Aelfhun couldn't control the upward movement of his eyebrows. How had he missed her? He was getting off his game. Losing his touch. His network of gossip had let him down severely. He must fix this.
"Mm." He took a few moments to look around the large room, taking in everyone around him with surprisingly observant eyes. He knew that couple in the corner. They were having a rough patch, made all the worse by the fact the wife was cheating on him and it was only a matter of time before he found out. Or that old lady in the corner. He'd seen her around town his entire life, walking through the streets with her slow gait and her white cane. Some accident when she was younger, he heard. He knew all this and yet this beautiful creature had passed him by. How?
"Well, I would like to fix that," came his answer, looking back at her with a smirk and a knowing expression.

Meine 10 And I would like to not be here right now. But what was she to do now? She was here. She had ordered. There was nothing else to do about it but to sit this out. The fact this was her first time meeting with this man despite how long she'd been in the city gave her hope she might never run into him, again. She wouldn't be here forever. Eventually she would exhaust this place of everything she could learn from it. Than it would be time to leave. Where? She wasn't really sure. In her bedroom were the few bags she had taken with her to Belrea, already holding small items to help her next journey. Always thinking ahead, that's what Meine did.
Except when confronted with this man. The signs were there that this would be an obnoxious breakfast. So what if she went hungry another hour or so while she got as far away as possible and found somewhere else to eat. No free food was worth this company.
To Aelfhun, she gave the fakest, sweetest smile she could, before hiding her mouth in her tea.

Aelfhun 10 The smile was returned with an enthusiastic one of his own, Aelfhun's head already full of everything they would do afterward. This was going great, as was expected. No woman could resist his charm. And if she did? Than she was just lying to herself. He was the perfect specimen. Anyone with eyes could see that. And she did have such beautiful eyes. So pale.
He wasn't aware of the silence stretching between them as he gazed at her, watching how she stirred her tea every so often or licked her lips before raising the teacup. Aelfhun was content just to observe.
