“Oh, you flatter me so much, Michael. But you know, I could spend that time writing you love letters, instead. I’ve been writing some, I’m just not confident I can transcribe everything. Maybe Lucien has some gadget that can write out my words for me. I’ll ask. Ah,” he sighed complacently and leaned into Michael. It wasn’t as if they didn’t get ample time together, Deyvn just couldn’t ever get enough.
And Michael was skirting some sensitive topics for himself already. He didn’t want his mind straying too far from the present.
Devyn’s hands roamed Michael’s arms freely, working into muscles he didn’t often focus on whenever he sat him down for a massage.
“I like to think we’re unstoppable, too. And that’s more than hubris speaking. There’s not a single thing I think we couldn’t overcome. Thankfully, adventuring now is without the same threats as before. It’s very nice not to worry about someone waiting to spring an ambush when they think I’m not paying attention. Although, I suppose I’ve gotten a bit rusty. I’ll be in trouble if someone tries,” he laughed. There was no worry in his voice. Devyn approached most things logically, he was just confident in himself. Even when he tried to be modest, he wasn’t always successful.
“Thank goodness I’ll have you with me. There’s plenty of adventure to be had on Alastor,” he promised, resting his head close to Michael’s. “I’ll leave you wanting for nothing, Michael.”

Michael lifted his hand to stroke through Devyn’s hair as he rested his head close, a little smile tugging at his lips as he closed his eyes and just held his husband in his arms for a few moments.
“I would tease that I could probably spring an ambush on you, you know, to keep you on your toes. But I don’t want to move right now,” he laughed softly and pressed kisses against Devyn’s face wherever he could reach.
“I’m already looking forward to my next break. Being away from you all day is--... very stressful,” he admitted, scratching at Devyn’s scalp with his fingertips in a soothing gesture.
“The necklace helps,” he promised, because what was the point of having a part of Devyn with him if it didn’t bring him comfort? “It’s not the same as seeing your eyes light up when you smile, or hear your laugh, or feel your lips on my skin. I know it’s only for the day, but it’s so difficult to pay attention in my classes when I’m thinking about you all the time!”

Michael always made Devyn feel so spoiled. He’d been alone for so long that he was greedy for even the smallest sort of affection, and Michael never left him wanting. He knew every little thing that Devyn liked, and it was impossible for him not to lean into the hand working at his scalp.
“Ever the romantic, Michael. I love that about you. Are the notes in your lunchbox not enough? I’ll write more. Maybe I’ll come visit you at lunch, if the Reids won’t be mad at me for stealing you away.” Like they didn’t wind up at Michael’s house, or him at theirs at least once a day for something. It helped when the kids were always going back and forth
“I keep myself busy while we’re apart, but I miss you, too. I suppose it’ll get easier, won’t it? We just got too used to spending all summer together. I think about you constantly, whether you’re by my side or not. When the necklace skips a beat, I’m sure half the time it’s just me thinking about how much I love you. I pine for you,” he laughed. “Even though I know I’ll see you again soon. If your days are stressful, I’ll have to come up with more creative ways to help you relax when you get home. I’ve got a few in mind. You’re welcome to spring an ambush on me any time you like.”
He looked at Michael with an amused expression, but there was no shortage of love in the expression. In part, he doubted Michael could really ambush him, but of course he looked forward to the thrill of it anyway. “You keep me on my toes already. Well, not right now. You’ve swept me off my feet entirely.”

“Careful, that sounds like a challenge,” Michael laughed. Another kiss. Another stroke of his hand against Devyn’s head. “I’m going to have to think of something.”
He was amused, and very much in love. Michael never would have imagined his life would look like this, but he was happier than he thought he could ever be.
“Your notes are perfect as they are, thank you. I wouldn’t be upset if you visit for lunch, but you should take that time to do what you need to. I like having a house husband to take care of things around the house,” he teased, and gave Devyn another kiss to make up for it.
“You don’t have to, though,” he promised, just in case Devyn felt like it was an obligation. It wasn’t! It wasn’t like they were particularly messy in the first place.

“Oh please,” Devyn laughed, at first because Michael wouldn’t be upset if he visited for lunch, and then because he should take time to do what he needed, and then again because Michael called him a house husband–taking care of things around the house. Of course he cleaned up and ran errands and made dinner, but those were things he’d have done in any case. He wanted to make Michael’s life easier and give him and Atticus a comfortable home to come back to.
…But Michael could have just hired a maid, or had dinner delivered, or paid someone to do the busywork Devyn found for himself.
Devyn had been called many things in his life but he couldn’t have ever imagined house husband would ever be among them.
“I hardly spend any time doing chores, don’t give me so much credit. You and Atticus are very tidy, I make most of the mess anyway. I might as well be the one to clean it up.” Although, now that Michael had carved out a space in the garage for him he was having much more success keeping things in a small, organized section of the house.
“Besides, if my options are between lunch with you or lunch with myself, you know what I’ll choose every time.” Maybe not every day of the week, but he could visit often enough. And he’d sweet talked half the staff, so he doubted they were going to give him any trouble. He was responsible and followed all the check in procedures, and so what if he buttered them up with treats and flowers, too?
He had plenty of meals to eat by himself, Michael knew what his appetite was like.
“Seeing you brightens up my day, too. Gives me all the energy I need to get through things until you come home to me.” Michael was playing fast and loose with all those kisses, and since he was the one who mentioned challenges, of course Devyn was going to get a little competitive.
He could give as good as he got, and Michael was giving very good right now.
