Kaikamahine’s smile softened as she saw the shift in Nasuri’s expression. There it was—that little spark of freedom she’d been waiting to see. Nasuri was beginning to open up, and it was beautiful to witness.
"Trust me," Kai said, her voice warm, "you will. The moment you stop trying to fit into everyone else’s expectations is the moment you really start living." She took a step back, giving Nasuri the space to move, to explore this new sense of lightness on her own terms. She wasn’t about to push her any further; Nasuri was already making more progress than she had expected. "You’ve got it in you," she added, her tone full of encouragement. "You’ve always been strong, but now you’re starting to be free, too. And that’s something no one can take from you." She gave Nasuri a playful wink before twirling her own ribbon in the air again, more dramatically this time. "And who knows? Maybe you’ll end up liking the spotlight after all."

Nasuri felt a warmth rise in her chest at Kai’s words, though she wasn’t quite ready to admit it. She was still too guarded, too cautious. But deep down, she couldn’t deny that something had shifted. Maybe life didn’t have to be so controlled. Maybe there was room for a little more spontaneity.
"Don’t get ahead of yourself," she replied, her voice tinged with a mix of humour and skepticism. But there was no real bite to her words. If anything, she felt lighter than before—like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders, even if only for a moment. Nasuri was about to respond when she caught sight of a noble approaching from across the room. He was dressed in regal attire, his posture stiff, and his expression unreadable. She recognized him immediately—one of her family’s long-time associates, someone who always had an agenda. Her mood shifted instantly, the small moment of freedom slipping away as duty came crashing back down.
"Looks like I’m needed," she said quietly, the familiar edge returning to her voice. Without another word, she handed the ribbon back to Kaikamahine, her expression neutral once more. "Thanks… for the distraction." And just like that, Nasuri was pulled back into the world she knew all too well.

Kaikamahine watched from a distance, her smile lingering as she saw the subtle change in Nasuri’s posture. She’d done it—broken through that icy exterior, even if just a little. It was a small victory, but one that felt important. Nasuri was beginning to see that life didn’t have to be so rigid, so confined by rules and expectations.
"Look at you," she called out to Nasuri, her voice teasing but affectionate. "I’d say you’ve got a little performer in you after all." Kaikamahine spun her ribbon one last time before letting it fall to her side. She wasn’t one to push people too far—at least not when she could see that they were already taking steps on their own. Nasuri needed space, and she respected that. But she wasn’t done with her yet. She winked, her dramatic flair back in full force. "Life’s more fun when you stop following the script." she called out one last time.

Nasuri turned away from Kai, her mind already shifting back into its familiar, guarded mode. She could feel the noble’s eyes on her as she made her way through the crowd, every step pulling her further from the brief moment of levity she had shared with the performer. The ribbon that had once felt so light and carefree now weighed heavily in her hand, a reminder of the fleeting connection she had allowed herself to indulge in. As she neared the noble, she straightened her posture, the mask of responsibility slipping effortlessly back into place. The noble gave her a curt nod, a silent demand for her attention. She matched his expression, her usual distrust surfacing as she waited for him to speak.
"Nasuri," the noble began, his voice dripping with formality, "I need a word about the upcoming event. There are… complications." Of course, there were. There were always complications when it came to nobles and their endless politicking.
"Lead the way," she replied coolly, her earlier ease with Kai now feeling like a distant memory. Duty called, and once again, Nasuri had to answer.

Kai watched Nasuri walk away, her posture shifting into that familiar, distant stance. It was the same guarded air she'd worn when they'd first crossed paths, but now Kai knew there was more beneath the surface. She wasn’t surprised that Nasuri had fallen back into her role as the noble’s daughter, but it still left a faint trace of disappointment. Kai toyed with the remaining ribbon in her hand, her grin softening. With a light chuckle, she turned back toward her performance, already plotting how to pull her back into that moment of levity once more.
