Meadowlyn felt a small sense of victory at Karothdra’s words, though she knew this was only the beginning. There would be no easy roads ahead, but she was ready for that. She had come here to prove herself, and Karothdra’s subtle acknowledgment was the first step.
"I’ll be ready," Meadowlyn said, her tone calm but full of determination. The crowds around them grew thicker, but Meadowlyn found herself focused inward, her thoughts whirling with everything she’d learned today. She wasn’t just thinking about the lessons from Raedin or Karothdra, but about what she needed to do next. Every step forward would need to be calculated, deliberate.
Suddenly, she stopped in front of a small stall selling leather-bound journals. Without thinking, she reached for one, feeling the smooth, worn cover under her fingertips.
"I think I’ll need this," Meadowlyn murmured, more to herself than to Karothdra. "A way to keep track of everything I learn." She handed over a few coins to the vendor before tucking the journal under her arm, ready for tomorrow.

Karothdra observed Meadowlyn as she purchased the journal, her mind already turning over tomorrow’s challenges. There was something about this girl—this woman—that intrigued her. It wasn’t just her persistence or her determination. It was the way she approached each task, each lesson, with a kind of quiet diligence that Karothdra respected.
"Smart," Karothdra commented as Meadowlyn rejoined her. "Keep track of everything. Every small detail can make a difference when the time comes." They continued walking through the marketplace, but Karothdra’s mind was already on Raedin’s next lesson. She knew the trainer well—his methods were gruelling, but effective. If Meadowlyn could handle what was coming, she’d be well on her way to earning Raedin’s respect. But there was still a long road ahead.
"You should know," Karothdra said after a moment, "Raedin won’t hold back. Not tomorrow, not the day after. He’ll push you until you either break or rise to the occasion." Her voice was steady, but there was a hint of something softer underneath—a warning, perhaps, but also a promise. "You’ve got potential, but potential means nothing if you don’t live up to it." With that, Karothdra turned, her pace steady as she began to walk away, leaving Meadowlyn to her thoughts. The marketplace was still bustling with life, but Karothdra’s mind was elsewhere, already thinking ahead to the next day’s training.

Meadowlyn watched Karothdra disappear into the crowd, a mixture of excitement and anticipation swirling in her chest. Tomorrow would be the real test, and she knew it. But instead of feeling daunted by the challenge ahead, she felt invigorated. Clutching the journal in her hand, she started to make her way back to her temporary lodgings. The city felt alive around her, the sounds of the marketplace fading as she entered quieter streets. Her mind was buzzing with thoughts of the xaraans, of Raedin’s lessons, of Karothdra’s subtle mentorship. She had so much to prove, but she felt more ready than ever.
As she settled into her room, Meadowlyn opened the journal, its blank pages staring back at her. She took a deep breath and began to write, her pen moving swiftly as she recorded everything she had learned today—every detail, every insight, every piece of advice from both Karothdra and Raedin. When she finished, she set the journal aside and lay back on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Tomorrow was going to be hard, but she welcomed it.

As she made her way through the city streets, her thoughts kept returning to Meadowlyn. There was something about the girl that reminded her of herself, years ago, when she had been just as determined, just as full of fire. But Karothdra had chosen a different path—one of military service and leadership, not racing. Her duty had always been to protect, to strategize, to command. her family obligations had and would never had allowed her to explore something different.
Yet, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of hope for Meadowlyn. If the girl could endure Raedin’s harsh lessons, if she could truly bond with a xaraan, then maybe—just maybe—she could carve out a place for herself in this world. Karothdra allowed herself a small, rare smile. Tomorrow would be interesting, she hoped for the best.
