He saw the female hesitate, glance over at one of her companions, he assumed that was perhaps her mate and then shake her head. "You are lying," she told the boy. But she stared hard at him.. as Undine was unmistakably a hybrid and one matching the racial ties for the Ninyelt clan, no matter which way you flipped it.
"We are not, continue at your own risk, I am a fair fighter, it is your decision and if you win..you lose."
He steadied himself and flowed into the fighting dance he had learned so long ago from his parents, he prefered not to use his superior size unless needed, but everything was needed here, to keep them alive. To keep them free from these people. To keep their possessions and most importantly their lives.
The attackers came on and he fended off the first volley, the males seemed hesitant as if they believed them more than their leader did.
He hissed again and the battle began for real. There was no more time for thought just for movement. He bent and weaved and thrust...and then the vines came to wrap around their ankles and they were just as distracted with them as they were him. They were not used to magic, at least of this sort.

He did his best to keep out of the way without putting himself in danger, he knew at this age that his small frame was still snatchable, the saving grace being that Syaa had better reach, quick reflexes and far reaching nature magic that kept their accosters off their balance for the most part. He nearly got scraped with a knife but ducked out of the way last minute, giggling. He hoped they would think him mad and if that didn't work at least slightly demented.
He kept quiet so that Syaa could concentrate it must be hard to commune with the plants the way he did. He was sure that the one sneezing fit one of the brigands had was an allergy to something in the pollen of the particular vine, Syaa was using every edge he had to keep him safe and in that moment his cousin became closer than that to him. Syaa would remain one of his favorite people for forever because of this night. He had plenty in his immediate family to look up to but his new friend* would always hold a special place in his heart, a brother, a defender.. it was a special bond that he would never ever forget.

His stalling tactics worked out in the end and Syaa, panting, was able to run off his smaller accosters and keep his family safe, he knew his parents would be proud. And after he sent his magic chasing after the fleeing would be thieves he turned with a grin for Undine.
"Well we sure showed them didn't we young man." He clapped a massive hand on the small younglings shoulder. "You are a mighty brave lad, didn't see you shake a leaf. I will tell your parents you are a warrior born no doubt. Good job."
Now for the rest of the long march home..eventually his heart would slow down a bit yea? He shook himself all over, shaking out all the latent tension and releasing the grip on his magic, he had never had to use it defensively before and it as budding as it was at his current stage had been just enough to keep them out of the radaku's mouth. For that he was most grateful.
"Onward to home."

Well there would certainly be no complaints from his department, that was certainly enough stress for one day. He would probably get chewed out at home too, but nothing mattered except that he got home and to his infernal bed. He remembered the exact texture and scent of his blanket and after a battle like that he felt justified that he would go to bed early without a fight for once in his life, he wanted to bury under the blankie, knowing full well that his parents would rip apart anyone or anything that tried to mess with him.
Had he learned his lesson? Perhaps not, but he had learned some tactical skills that would serve him in the many years of his long life. He would never forget this day and the bravery and stalwartness of his tall companion.
"Hey Syaa? Thanks for uh, protecting me and my loot. I'm sure my parents will reward you if we let them know what happened. I don't have much myself, or I would offer." It was only right to tip your saviour right?

"You are family, I know that if our positions were reversed or if it involved any other member of our family the story would be the same. You are worth protecting as are every one in our clan, that is what families do. That is love."
It was unbreakable and yet fragile, love. Ethereal and yet as solid as the mountains, as adaptable as the forest and as lovely as the moon. He would have to remember this..perhaps he would write Ny a poem later when his mind had calmed down and ceased to race over and over what had just occurred.
"Perhaps the wolf twins will come out and clean this lot out, or at least scare them straight." He looked up the trail and back behind them. Ever vigilant. "You have good instincts youngling, keep that up and you will surpass your father in might." He nodded, the words seemed right to him. Truthful, fate.
He was going to take three days and not leave his darn garden. Though this was more adventure than he had had in years.
He succeeded in bringing Undine back under the aegis of his parents and eagerly borrowed a swift mount and clambered after taking care of it, into his own blessed bed. He was pretty sure he was asleep by the time he had wrapped the blankets around his shoulders.
