He wove through the crowd rather nimbly, swerving around this leg and dodging under that bag. He didn’t know where he was going. He just wanted to be back with his family. He didn’t know Kahikina. They were just visiting! Which way was back?
He felt himself brush against something with a little force, but didn’t pay any mind until a large hand grabbed his shoulder. He looked up with the faintest home of a familiar face, but instead was met with a man covered in a spilled salad angrily glaring down at him. The man was growling something, but Gin Ae was sobbing with fear and couldn’t understand what was being said.

“Hey! Stop!” DeeDee bolted forward and grabbed the man’s arm. “Please, he’s scared!”
The clearly calm older man looked at the teen with concern. “Woah, woah, sorry. He bumped into me and I just wanted to make sure he isn’t hurt.” In reality, the man was clearly worried and not angry in the slightest.
DeeDee shook her head. “No, we’re the ones who are sorry. He freaks out real easy.” She looked at her sobbing brother and sighed heavily. Fine.. maybe she did feel a little bad. “Hey Gin Ae. Gin Ae.” She knelt down and pulled him into her arms. “Hey.. I’m sorry. I’ve got you.”

Why was the man still yelling? Everyone was yelling!! Gin Ae couldn’t even see through his tears. Through the rushing of blood in his ears and his own cries, he heard DeeDee talking. His first impulse was to start running again… but then… His eyes blinked open at the unusually gentle tone and the firm arms wrapped around him. It took a long few minutes, but eventually his sobbing turned into sniffles and hiccups. “Wanna- go- home,” he stuttered out.

Throughout the entire calming effort, DeeDee never let go even once. It felt strange to be comforting her brother like this. She was pretty sure that she was the last one in her family that the youngling would seek out for such a thing. Yet, here she was, annoyed and guilty and.. feeling a little good as that trembling body slowly eased into a somewhat less frazzled state. She was helping! “Do you want to get your treat first? I bet some frozen cream would taste really good now.” Now she pulled back and tried an encouraging smile. She certainly didn’t want her day to end like that! Besides.. That purse was still calling her name back there.

Treats… Gin Ae’s hiccups abated and he rubbed his face with his shirt. Did he really want to stay in town a moment longer? Oh, but then the frozen cream was mentioned… He met his sister’s gaze while he rubbed his nose on the collar of his shirt. She had come after him and saved her from the “angry” man. Maybe he could hold on just a little longer. With a heavy sigh for bravery, he nodded and pressed himself against his sister for safety. No matter what, he really was not leaving her side again!
