Things were fine, and Mel loved her mother, and her whole family, to bits, but there was a reason she chose to apply to colleges that were all relatively far from home. It was the same reason she chose to stay in DC even though there were probably plenty of job opportunities back home. It was hard to give up independence once you’ve had a taste of it, after all.
“That sounds like a good life,” the blonde said with a much brighter smile, happy to move past the topic of helicopter parents. When Cherish lifted her glass, so did Mel, and she reached forward and even clinked it with hers.
“I’ll toast to that!”

Chuckling a little at the glass clink, Cherish decided that as far as random encounters went, she was pretty pleased with this one. Her antics didn't often net her new friends, so hey! Hooray for the dinosaur mask.
Settling in, she decided she was going to enjoy this conversation. After all, she didn't need to be anywhere for a while.
"So," Cherish grinned and took another sip of her drink. "What animal would you want to be if you ever got into wearing a fursuit?"
Living the dream, indeed.
