Oblivious to the implications of sighing from behind a bush, when she felt Tololo’s aura disappear as well, Mel popped out from her hidey hole looking refreshed and quite a bit happier than just a few minutes ago.
“Yep! At least it feels like it did. I’m still gonna extra rinse my hair and face when I get home, but my clothes are perfectly fine!”
It was probably a good thing that she bounced back pretty quickly, else she might have been too distracted by it to come to the same conclusion about people trickling in because of what happened with the youma and all.
“Good idea,” she said as she glanced around. Some people were already heading toward the tree with the damaged trunk. “They won’t question two college-looking girls coming out of the woods because they were ‘hiding from the monster’, would they?”

In Shelly’s experience, people didn’t like to question much of anything just in case their beliefs got challenged a little too hard. But in this case, questions were inevitable. The kids they’d saved were likely to talk and if they mentioned two girls saving them and people found two random girls in the same area… Yeah, they could look forward to having the rest of their day spent in the police station.
“Don’t say anything and follow my lead,” she said softly. “There’s a hiking trail not too far from here and we can plausibly say that we heard commotion and came over. Just like everyone else.”
With a wink she plucked a leaf from the other girl’s hair and began to jog over to meet the rest of the gathering crowd.
“Oh my god, what’s going on? We heard someone screaming during our hike! And we saw these two costumed weirdos running that way”, Shelly was careful to point towards the section of forest where she knew tracks couldn’t be left. People could absolutely move through, but footprints were impossible to find in the dense undergrowth.
She stood looking vapid and rubber-necky for a few moments as she edged through the gathering people. Once everyone was caught up in gossip and speculation, she and New Friend could slip away.

She blinked when the other girl pulled a leaf from her hair, and quietly hoped there weren’t more hidden in her locks as she followed after her.
Unfortunately she had zero confidence in her acting, so she tried her best to look surprised and confused like everyone else and left the talking to her new friend. Pointing in the direction of where the ‘costumed weirdos’ seemed to do the trick, and when everyone seemed perfectly lost in the gossip, Mel tapped the other girl on the shoulder. She gestured as subtly as she knew how toward the deli across the street, then started to make her way over.

Okay, acting like a dumb blonde was more effective than she’d ever expected. Moving through the gathered people, she only had to look worried and concerned and no one paid attention to her. Amazing.
Feeling the tap on her shoulder, she grinned at New Friend and nodded slightly to show that she understood. The deli in question was a good one so she had no problems heading that way. After all, there weren’t any monsters or ‘costumed weirdos’ around now so why bother sticking around?
Once away from the other people, Shelly couldn’t help but laugh as she shook her head. Really, people were amazing.
“I’m really starting to understand why most patrols and such happen at night,” she murmured. “Curious onlookers are a lot more rare after a certain point.”

Mel was wearing a huge, equally amused smile, while her new friend had a good laugh about what just happened.
“Could be,” she replied with a little shake of her own head. “In any case, I think we made a pretty good team. I’m Mel.” She got the door for them and gestured for her to go inside first. Granted she had just eaten, but after that she honestly was feeling a little peckish. A small sandwich combo couldn’t hurt. “If you’re free, why don’t we have lunch? My treat.”

”Shelly. Pleasure to meetcha!”
She slipped into the deli sighing happily as the air conditioning hit her skin. After that fight, she wouldn’t mind a little snack. And having a friendly chat sounded good. Going through her schedule mentally, she nodded.
“I can spare an hour or so before I have to go home and check on the menagerie,” she said agreeably. “Let’s do it. We deserve a little treat, right? Oh! They have boba tea!”
Yeah, she’d just relax with her new friend for a bit and then head home. She’d fought a monster and won. She was allowed to take a little time for herself after that!

Mel beamed when Shelly agreed to sit down and have a peaceful little chat, excited to have made another powered friend. She followed her inside, eyes already looking over at the menu.
“Did you say boba tea?” she asked, eyes practically star-shaped. She loved a good boba tea.
Yeah, this felt like it could be the start of a good friendship.
