While Mephitis' own reply had been rather pathetic, he at least made an attempt to give Shingen a proper, polite answer. Meanwhile, Queen of the Brats decided to give the most infuriating one word answer ever. The dragon's eyes flicking ever so slightly to keep Aella in his vision but refusing to look directly at her. Those pretty, soft features scrunched up in annoyance at Aella's antics, even though Shingen was the one talking now. The agent presenting a rather kind offer for Mephitis to train at the Maeda temple. He wasn't entirely sure if that was the best idea given training for Mephitis was essentially destroying everything around him as he tried to control his own power. However, the former king was more focused on the fact that no one was calling Aella out. Seriously? Fine.

"I'll have to take you up on that offer another time, Shingen. I currently have a lot of things I need to take care of. I'll keep it in mind. On another note..." Mephitis tilted his head to one side as flicked one hand up and pointed towards Aella. "Does Aella need a new set of batteries? I swear the packaging promised she could say more than two damn words. Try pulling her string again." Mephitis was always so petty when he got near Aella so much so that even this apology dinner wouldn't be safe from it. Those pursed lips slipping away into a forced, thin smile as he waited for Aella to answer him. What was more shocking was something existed that could take Mephitis attention away from food.

  • Aella took another small, deliberate bite of sushi, the taste a fleeting pleasure against the gnawing hunger that refused to be sated by her restricted diet. Her eyes flickered briefly towards Mephitis, catching his annoyed expression before quickly averting her gaze back to her plate. The tension in the room was palpable, and Shingen's overly polite demeanor only added to her discomfort. She could feel eyes on her, judging her every move, every word, but she didn't give a ******** at the moment. If anything, she bristled at the unwanted attention and was content to let the conversation exclude her.

Shingen’s offer for Mephitis to train at the Maeda Temple floated around her like a specter, the true intentions of this dinner coming to light. She could almost hear the unspoken expectation behind it, the silent push to be something more, to tap into her potential, to become involved in things far past the mundane. Aella was content to struggle along like all the other humans on the planet. She preferred to worry about things like paying rent and competing with the resident b***h at the agency for the spotlight. Things like the art of mana control and whatever Levi was up to were things she didn't really want to be involved in. However, she couldn't just walk away either. Zen needed her help, and she felt like she owed him that much.

What she didn't owe him was maturity and table manners. If he reprimanded her later, she would recuse herself of responsibility for her actions with 'Meph started it.' His little jab would be met with a piece of fish flung at his face, the fork she was using to eat her sushi a perfect catapult for the wayward piece of fish.

"Oops. My bad," came the most insincere apology ever. There was nothing accidental about the food attack; it had been so very calculated and deliberate in execution. Even the apology she offered seemed to be more of a pointed insult than anything else and came with a glower of irritation.

Do not fall in love with people like me.
I will take you to museums and parks and monuments and kiss you in every beautiful place,
so that you can never go back to them without tasting me like blood in your mouth.
I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible.
And when I leave, you will finally understand why storms are named after people.

    Shingen Maeda

Mephitis turned Shingen down on tagging along to Maeda Temple to no one’s surprise. The agent’s credibility was likely at an all time low and if they were ever to trust in him again, it would take more than a fancy dinner, it would take time. Although his offer was to both of them, only Mephitits seemed to have received it. Aella was very much withdrawn. He knew her well enough to know that something was eating at her. The obvious would be Shingen’s own presence. The way he had thrown around her at the club was rather heartless but bringing it up now would only be a step towards the weird, something she clearly wanted to avoid. Much of Aella’s attitude was repression. Very much a “spur of the moment” kind of girl, which tended to point to an avoidance of what was or what will be. It always brought forth a passionate abandon to the present that would otherwise be lost in the logical and the down to earth.

Zenith was also aloof or more so...grey. He couldn’t rule out that there was a reason why the two had separated and the fact that it musn’t be easy to sit across a table from each other and carry on as if everything was as it should be. The way he silently carried on was fitting of a soldier like him but Shingen had seen enough of his demons to know a storm still brewed underneath the surface. A tempest called the heart, perhaps even a human one this time.

Shingen smirked at Mephitis’ call out on Aella’s sour mood although he took care not to add to the tension like before. He stopped mid pick, his chopsticks freezing in the air when Aella flopped a fish at him like as if from a slingshot. He kept his eyes from shooting over to Zenith, not wanting to pressure him in any way and instead pushed ahead. ”Well, my invitation goes out to the both of you. But I totally get not taking me up on it. After everything...I have to win back some trust.” Shingen’s eyes were set on his glass and the deeply crimson liquid inside of it. Then looking up, he took another bite of sashimi. ”But the offer still stands.” He smiled, his eyes shutting to complete his gleeful mask.

O, Death...Become my blade once more

Despite the social unease that kept the swordsman's mouth shut, the dinner was actually going quite well…until it wasn’t. Zenith’s picture perfect posture flinched as Mephitis snapped at Aella, but for now he chose to keep to himself through the initial bickering. The man took a breath in…and then out. Perhaps a couple weeks earlier he would have said something, but Aella spat some venomous things at him the last time he got between the two of them. Not his place, hopefully the moment would just come and go. Still, there was subtle tension in his shoulders…enough to encourage him to tilt his head from side to side to stretch out the tightness in those muscles. As he dipped each ear down towards the closest shoulder, something seemed to peek above the black turtleneck. It looked like some kind of…bruise. The mark became covered once he straightened himself again.

Hopefully they could talk about something else, maybe revisit what exactly Mephitis was doing…or even even talk about Aella’s wor-... Suddenly Zenith caught something at the corner of his eye…a piece of perfectly cut and groomed raw fish soaring through the air towards Mephitis. Whether he dodged it or was smacked right in the face by it…it didn’t matter. Zenith took another deep breath through his nostrils, his calm pace he ate at completely halted for a moment. The way he exhaled was sharper than the last time, purging the mild irritation away. While Aella felt that this whole gathering was some kind of meeting to join some heavier calling, the truth was that Zenith had no such expectations-he even made that clear to Shingen at the Ogotunam tower. He figured it was pointless anyway and he didn’t want either of them to assist unless they really wanted to. He could shoulder that responsibility himself-or so that’s what he believed.

That being said, this Dinner was truly meant to be enjoyed…to be a relaxing event…and he slaved away to ensure that the meal was perfect; It was not made to be a projectile to be catapulted at another. ”Aella,” Zenith murmured with slight disappointment, ”I would appreciate it if you didn’t fling the food I made for all of you. If you don’t like it, I can make something else.” She immediately followed with an excuse to deflect responsibility…and the Swordsman had no answer to her, but instead an expression that said it all: That is no excuse for what you did. After that he sighed and set his utensils down momentarily, hoping to redirect the topic of their argument a little. ”Well both of you seem quite busy: working and training aren’t to be taken lightly. Outside of my normal routine, I have been actually getting into gaming-which is something I haven't really ever done. Honestly I am quite terrible at everything I have played so far: Overwatch, Baldurs Gate, and some game called Chained Together. I haven’t played too much, but I have most definitely cemented myself at the bottom of anything ranked or have been ’carried’ through the game.” Even while he was with Aella, he never really liked playing those kinds of games and would much rather go out and explore things than stay inside. The most homebound activity they had was the occasional television show and…well.

This side of Zenith was…vulnerable…exposing the small bit of normalcy that he had in his own life. He didn’t really feel comfortable in that moment to explain that he was seeing someone who liked to game on her off time, but hopefully this topic could create a more engaging or even funny conversation-or so that was Zenith’s objective. The atmosphere was far too tense for him…and he most certainly didn’t want Aella or Mephitis to argue at the table and use his food as makeshift ammunition.

Mephitis should have known that Aella would stoop so low. Every time he threw a simple remark her way, she eagerly returned with some physical attack. A purple nurple was her most common tactic of all but that would be far too ridiculous at a dinner like this. So, he thought he was safe! She'd have to resort to using her words in order to get back at him. A petty duel of cutting remarks that would result in the dumbest argument of all. It was the only option, right? Nope, fish to the face. Mephitis didn't even have time to react as his head had been turned away from Aella this entire time. He still refused to look directly at her as it was causing him some emotional turmoil every time he did. Unfortunately, it led to his inevitable fishy fate.

"Oh, you little-" Mephitis was already grabbing the raw fish right off his cheek, preparing himself to fling it right back at her. The proud dragon suddenly a bratty child wanting revenge for Aella's schoolyard shenanigans. However, all that came to an abrupt halt as the other two spoke up again. The dragon reminded that this was meant to be a formal dinner. Well, as formal as one could get with a group of emotional trainwrecks. His hand stayed frozen in the air, clinging to the fish. The dragon pursing his lips as he made the most indignant expression he could muster. As if he meant anything, he stuck his tongue out at Aella before relenting. His butt hitting his seat once again as he relaxed and his hand flicking the fish high into the air. Of course, it landed right into his mouth and disappeared. He wasn't going to waste good food.

Mephitis didn't address Shingen's offer again or the comment about earning their trust. The agent was right after all. The dragon didn't fully trust him. That could change with time and if their own goals aligned. For now, it was best to just stick to lighter topics at the dinner table. That pretty face arcing its brow as Zenith brought up video games. "Damn, I haven't played video games since high school. Not really my choice though." His responsibilities as a royal got in the way of enjoying such activities and then his fall into poverty made it impossible to buy them. "Had a Switch. Aella played on it once and sucked at Mario Kart." Yes, he had to get that jab in. He was not going to leave her alone. "Heard about Overwatch but never played it myself. I have no idea what those other two are. They any fun? What's the gameplay like?"

  • Aella couldn’t help but smirk as Mephitis made an indignant expression and reluctantly ate the fish she’d flung at him. The sight of him looking like a disgruntled cat who’d been doused in water, gave her a small, petty satisfaction. Shingen’s attempt to smooth over the situation with his polite words was a dull hum in the background, barely registering in her mind. She wasn't interested in his platitudes or his offers of training, which felt like empty gestures to her.

Then Zen’s reprimand washed over her, his voice a mix of calm disappointment and faint irritation. She felt a flicker of guilt at his tone, but it was quickly overshadowed by her own simmering frustration. She really didn't want to play nice, sit pretty and pretend that everything was fine when it clearly wasn’t. The elegant table setting, the soft clink of cutlery against plates, and the warm, ambient light all seemed to mock the underlying discord. Maybe these 'nice' types of dinners just reminded her of dragon culture and put her in a foul mood.

Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm down, her fingers unconsciously tracing the rim of her wine glass. Zenith’s mention of gaming caught her attention. The thought of him, so stoic and composed, fumbling through a game was odd and it served to highlight just how far apart they had drifted, the man she once knew now engaging in new hobbies she never associated with him.

Leaning back in her chair, she felt her appetite wane, the delicate flavors of the sushi now unappealing. When Mephitis mentioned the Switch and Mario Kart, she rolled her eyes.

"I wasn't that bad at Mario Kart," she protested, though she knew she had been terrible at it. "It's not my fault the controls were weird." The words came out more grumbled and defensive than she intended, a faint blush coloring her cheeks as she tried to deflect Mephitis' teasing.

    Shingen Maeda

The conversation had been gratefully shifted into something more casual, no thanks to Shingen. When Zenith mentioned video games, he had to admit he was a bit shocked. A raised eyebrow and a smirk that said “really?” was all Shingen could muster as he imagined the hardened warrior navigating a crowded chatroom. Shingen never had time for games, opting to relax in mild vices opposed to having time slip from his hands by getting sucked into addicting play cycles or a compelling storyline. While it was a hobby he had pursued when he was younger, the cerebral muscles that games flexed were often what he used throughout his day at work. “Vegging out” was more his speed lately although he sometimes didn’t mind escaping into fantasy once in a while. ”Video games? Really?” Shingen chuckled before holding his chin in acknowledgement. ”Never thought I’d hear you get into that kind of thing. I’ve definitely tried my hand at Baldur’s Gate. Stimulating to wonder where the story could take you next although I’m kind of stuck on a level right now and it pisses me off. Now, Helldivers. That’s a game you can get on, pick up and put down, all while still having a blast. Totally recommend it.”

Shingen didn’t expect the other two to have much interest in the hobby either but at least there was common ground between him and Zenith, even if it was superficial. It’d be nice to try and kick the tension with some sort of activity. Shingen was happy enough to know they were safe and shielded from the deeper conspiracy at hand. This function had always played part in Shingen’s duties. There was no clout nor glory. Success took the form of people being free to complain about gas prices and long hours at work. To know that there everyday issues did not involve running for their lives and wondering who could be pulling them from their beds that night.

O, Death...Become my blade once more

Taking the reins of the conversation and shifting the tone of it to something simple and casual had been intentional, with the hope of capturing the others in conversation that deviated from the dismal reality outside of this small gathering. This wasn’t intended to be a gathering of heroes…or an assembly of avengers hell bent on crafting some answer to everyone’s problems with ingredients like ‘justice’ or ‘valiance’. It was supposed to be an escape…a breath of fresh air…a place of common ground where everyone could enjoy a bit of normalcy. In a way, Zenith had accomplished that. Mephitis had brought up how he played some games in the past, taking the opportunity to poke the grumpy racoon that was Aella a little while also asking what the gameplay was like for the two computer games he hadn’t heard of…but at that moment, Zenith was visibly…distracted.

It was Aella’s defensive rebuttal and the child-like way she sank back into her chair and toyed with her wine glass that captured Zenith’s attention. His features deflated and a sigh passed his lips. “They’re good…one is heavily narrative and the other…uhm..cooperative,” The swordsman barely offered much clarity for the dragon’s inquiry since his mind was absorbed in something else. The man almost looked…guilty that the topic hadn’t been able to reach everyone at the table. It was only when Shingen began sharing his own experience with the top down rpg game that Zenith actually pushed himself up from his seat and began wandering back into the kitchen. His features are suddenly a little more relaxed. He looked over his shoulder towards the architect of arcana to make the man know that he was still being heard, however. “Helldivers. I’ll have to see what that one is like…because I feel we are very much experiencing something similar with Baldur’s gate.”

He turned away for a moment as he opened a cabinet, his eyes scanning through the contents of it before he procured a bottle. “I was thinking though, why don’t we play a game of our own-one taking full advantage of the alcohol we have at our disposal.” He flashed a cool smile back at the others as he carried back a black bottle. He walked around the table and set the bottle by the dragon. “Why don’t we play a little ‘Never have I ever’?” He held up five fingers as he navigated back to his chair, “Five lives, and we take a shot for every time we lose. Last one standing wins…and they get to…hmmm, we’ll figure that out at the end…As for the dragon…”

Zenith’s hazel eyes settled on the bottle and a singular finger pointed at it to elaborate on what it was. “That was left here by our friendly neighborhood devil…and in his words he said ‘all you need to know is that’s it’s too strong for your b**** a**’ when i asked him what it was when he was drinking it. Hopefully it will make things more risky for you. So…how does that sound? Anybody want to go first?” hopefully this would excite Aella a bit more, she loved games...and adding alcohol was intended to make it even more enticing. Hopefully the possible truths to be exposed and drunken shenanigans would invite the others to participate as well.

The drink…was…well…indeed far too strong for someone with the constitution of Zenith. In fact, it was too strong for mortal races in general. This alcoholic ichor had a beautiful gold color once the cork was cracked open, smelling faintly of maple…but when ingested it would be immediately apparent that it was stronger than anything crafted on the mortal planes. And…if the dragon managed to get a shot of it in his body…he would quickly feel the intoxication slam into him like a train would against a human body….of course…Zenith knew it was just ‘strong’.

"Fair. You had fun though. Plus, you beat my butt a few times as well." Mephitis shot out with a little smirk on his face. Honestly, he was pretty sure that Aella only beat him once in one of the mini-games and not the actual races but that didn't really matter. His plan was to make sure that Aella stayed within the conversation, even if he needed to poke fun at her to do it. Was it working? Hell, if he knew. It was better than letting her retreat into her own little mind, right? For now, Mephitis needed to focus in on the conversation at hand. After all, another surprise hit him as Shingen spoke up.

Those plush, feminine lips parted in surprise as Mephitis turned that long, blue-haired head Shingen's way. Chromatic eyes staring at the agent as the dragon had to fathom that even he knew what Baldur's Gate and Helldivers were. Wait, was it just Mephitis here? Was he that out of the damn loop right now? Okay, Aella probably didn't know either of those games or any game from the past few years. Still, it was so jarring to feel... Behind? Uninformed? He wasn't sure how to put it. It was as if he should have known about these things even if they were so simple. However, the past year had lost. Everything about it had been meaningless really. For a solid few seconds, Mephitis' eyes became distant as Zenith gave the vaguest explanation of each game. Shock and confusion giving way to a blank stare. A neutral mask that hid his worries and thoughts before he pulled himself back. Those eyes snapping back towards Zenith as he walked across the room.

Game? Mephitis' arched his brow as he watched the swordsman pull out a bottle. Oh, a drinking game. The dragon leaned forward in his seat as he propped his arm on the table and held his head in his hand. A look of mild interest crossing those soft features as he thought about how this all would go down. Honestly, Zenith was a bit ingenious for thinking this up. Aella wouldn't be able to resist such a childish game. Plus, they could all get to know each other. There really wouldn't be any danger for the dragon though. His ridiculous tolerance would easily combat whatever was in this black bottle. Why was Zenith putting it next to him? Shouldn't it be closer to the center right now? Mephitis was just overthinking that placement, right? RIGHT?

                                                As for the dragon…

"Wh-What?" Suddenly, Mephitis was truly a doe-eyed, innocent girl. That surprised look from earlier was nothing compared to this. The dragon's eyes staying wide as they slowly followed Zenith's finger back towards the black bottle. It was just for him?! Slowly, his lips parted but nothing came out as Zenith kindly let the mage know what he was in for. The beautiful, black bottle had been left by their "friendly neighborhood devil". Fear and worry immediately gripped Mephitis' heart as he realized how ******** he was. Levi was a ******** monster in so many ways, and devils could already be scary drinking partners. So, whatever the hell he was drinking could certainly put the dragon on his a**. There was no way he could go through with this, right? It was such a bad idea. He couldn't remember what happened the other night and he might end up repeating it! Still, could he just back out? Maybe he should ask for another drink. Wait, what if Zenith had something even worse?

Mephitis let out a weak little laugh as the most uncertain and terrified smile crossed over his lips. There was no backing out of this. He didn't want to be the one to spoil all the fun! Plus, Aella would hold it over his head forever and ever. Chicken, coward, or any other word would be fair game for her to relentlessly tease him. That was not happening. Every objection the dragon had was snuffed out within his mind as he just said, "Greeeeeeeaaaat. Sounds like fun." Yeah, a whole heaping helping of fun that might send him blackout drunk. Well, he was going to play with the rest. There was no way in hell he was going first though.

  • "Maybe it was a little fun." Aella grumbled as she leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. The muscles in her shoulders tensed, and her lips pressed into a thin line, her expression clouded with a mix of irritation and defensiveness. But as Zenith proposed the drinking game, she felt a familiar spark flicker to life beneath the surface, her competitive nature stirring. Thoughts briefly drifted toward Levi at the mention of the devil and how things had been left unresolved, but she would save those deeper contemplations for another time.

"Not a bad idea Zenith." Aella used his full name, as he was so different from the boy she used to know it seemed like they were strangers now. Her gaze shifted to Mephitis as he was given a little gift, catching the subtle flicker of nervousness in his chromatic eyes. A small, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corner of her lips, the kind of smile that hinted at the enjoyment of having a slight advantage. She knew he wasn’t good at these kinds of games, and the thought of winning—of channeling her frustrations into something she could control—was tantalizing. Still, she wasn’t about to show her hand first; that wasn’t her style. She’d let the others take the lead, observing with a cool detachment as the game unfolded.

Shifting silvers and shattered, blue-greens hues drifted toward Shingen, reflecting color like sunlight on the ocean’s surface. The BoM operative always used to act as if he were above their antics, too mature for the kind of fun she relished. It would be interesting to see if he’d loosen up for once or if the Shingen she remembered would make an appearance.

“Are you in, Shingen?” she asked, her tone a calculated mix of challenge and curiosity, the words slipping out like a carefully laid snare. “Or are you still too chicken to play, like you used to be?” Her voice carried a teasing lilt, but the sharpness in her gaze—those eyes that could shift from placid to piercing in an instant—revealed that she wasn’t entirely joking.

She leaned forward, picking up her glass and swirling the wine inside, the rich aroma mingling with the tension in the air. Her eyes stayed pinned on Shingen, the first real moment of interest sparking since he arrived. There was a sharpness to her gaze, a steely resolve mingled with darker intentions, lurking just beneath the surface. She wasn’t going to be the first to play, but she was definitely going to be in it to win.

    Shingen Maeda

The conversation had taken, very much to Shingen’s relief, although it was short lived as things took a turn. Zenith had appeared with a strange looking bottle. Something he hadn’t quite seen before. Sitting back, Shingen didn’t know what to make of it although he was very much curious as to what was being offered. When Zenith told them what it was, Shingen already knew it was a bad idea. He crossed his arms as he looked down on the mysterious liquor. A drinking game, very much something that would go on back at the academy. Something that Shingen often passed on. They were often ways to make one look foolish in front of everyone else although Shingen took himself less serious these days. He ran his hand down his chin as he tried to hide his inner contemplation and hesitation. The statement that the demon told them was likely false unless it was just another one of his temptations drawn by curiosity. Such was the original mistake.

When Aella spoke up, only his eyes looked up at her. His stoic mask held his uncertainty but as he held her gaze, he might have felt naked at that moment. Her usual indifferent look was gone now as if she had spotted something this time. As if she could see him through the only window he couldn’t close. Closing his eyes, Shingen half smirked. ”Heh, yeah. Why not?” He owed her as much. At this point, there was no point in secrecy so a game of utter honesty might be just what the doctor ordered. Even for a black op agent. .

O, Death...Become my blade once more

    "Not a bad idea Zenith."

Wha-...What? By the time Aella gave credit to the swordsman for conceptualizing this game, Zenith was already pouring himself a shot of Sake, the clear fluid fallin in a glimmering stream into his glass until she uttered his full name. Suddenly his purpose faded…his resolve crumbled. His hand couldn’t maintain a continuous pour and the alcohol eventually stopped being introduced to his glass as it hung just on the lip of the sake bottle waiting for the man to tip it just a bit more. In that moment of pause, Zenith couldn’t help but watch Aella with a confused expression that was also…hurt? It was so strange…to hear her say his full name like that and then so easily reel in her attention and brandish her excitement to the other two men at the table…all while Zenith was left to interpret what that was all about.

Noticing that he had probably held that expression for a second too long, the man decided to swiftly bury the uneasy feeling that had frozen him. The whole point of this game was to gain Aella's interest whilst also revitalizing the atmosphere…and he didn’t want to chase down an explanation at the cost of that. “R-right…,” Zenith mumbled…almost to himself. But again he caught himself and grounded himself, a calm and gentle smile touching his features. “Well I’m glad we all seem to be welcoming to the idea…since nobody else would like to go first it seems…then I’ll gladly pick at some of the low hanging fruit. Never have I ever attended Rengoku Academy.”

And with that easy first round, the game had begun. Zenith smirked as he poured the rest of his shot...but his gaze...while it hung on his filling glass...felt...distant for a moment. What...what was that really about? it...it made him feel...distant...which was true in a way; things had changed between them...but...but that didn't mean...

The man's hazel eyes lifted from his glass. That fake calm smile covering his hurt contemplations

Zenith wasn't the only one to catch the sudden use of his full name. Hearing it crest past those tacky lips had been the most foreign sound to the dragon. Those constantly shifting eyes snapping up towards Aella for a moment. A confused look crossing those feminine features that Mephitis was now sporting. Had something happen? Hadn't Aella been calling him Zen? It didn't seem like she was trying to be cute about it. In fact, it look like the choice had been purposeful. The dragon would flick his eyes towards Zenith to confirm that this was a strange switch-up on Aella's part. It was indeed. The look on the other man's face was all Mephitis needed to see. Aella had wounded Zenith with just one simple a change. However, it wasn't the dragon's place to interject either. Not now at least.

Mephitis warily poured himself a shot as he got ready for someone to take their turn. His eyes staring at the liquor like it was poison... Which was strange for a poison dragon. The aroma already striking his heightened sense of smell like a freight train. His features scrunching up slightly with worry. He had to hope no one had anything good for this game... Except Zenith did.

"Are you ******** serious!?!" Mephitis blurted out in pure shock and fear. Why did he let Zenith ******** go first!? The black bottle slammed against the table as Mephitis sat up in his seat, almost coming out of it. His jaw hanging low and eyebrows raised as far as they could go. "Dude, that's like... That's almost cheating! That's so... AGHHHHH!" It wasn't cheating. It was just playing the game as it should be. The dragon slumped into his seat in defeat. Eyes just staring off for a moment in pure horror as he realized how terrible of a start this was. However, that also meant one of the biggest one was out of the way? Wait, no. Aella likely knew a few target ones! She was the most dangerous one at the table. "I-I'll go next." He might as well get it out of the way before someone else claimed it.

                                                First though...

Mephitis' right hand trembled as he slowly grabbed onto the shot before him. The dragon trying his best to calm his nerves but even then his scales started to bristle up upon his cheeks. Mirror-like plats that gleamed from the lights around the room. He steeled himself for just a moment as he cried out, The shot was swung up to his mouth and knocked back in a flash. That powerful alcohol burning even his throat and tongue as it poured on down. The taste sending a shiver through every nerve in his body that had his body locking up. His shot glass slamming back down onto the table as he said, "How the fu-KHAAAA!" Mephitis turned his head to the side and a giant plume of mana shot towards the other side of the room. Brilliant arcane flecks dancing through the air as they lit up the air. It would be some time before they disappeared. Mephitis covered his mouth with a fist and scrunched, "Sorry. Sorry. It's just- Hold o-NGH!" That wasn't just strong. That was utter hell! How did Levi enjoy s**t like this?

"I'm good. I'm good. I'll get use to it." Mephitis grumbled out as he panted the top of his sternum. He'd have to get use to it really. However, the worst was yet to come for the dragon. Right now, it was still working its way into his system. This gave him time to work up his own 'Never have I ever'. It wasn't the greatest but he believed it would get at least Shingen and Aella. "Never have I ever driven a vehicle. Any vehicle. Car, truck, carriage, mooootorcycle." Mephitis looked right at Aella with that last one.

  • Aella felt a pang of guilt as she noticed the shift in Zenith's demeanor, the subtle way his hand faltered while pouring the sake. The soft light of the room cast a gentle glow on her snowy white locks, making them shimmer like frost in the moonlight. She hadn’t just meant for her words to sting—she’d wanted them to, even if she didn’t really want to hurt him. But there was something in the way he looked at her, as if he expected something from her, something she wasn’t ready to give. It made her feel exposed, vulnerable, and the guilt gnawed at her, but she was too stubborn to try and fix it. Apologies weren’t her style, especially not in the middle of a game. So, she pushed the feeling aside and focused on what was in front of her. Silvery blue-green eyes narrowed slightly as she picked up her glass, the liquid inside catching the light in a way that mirrored the flickering thoughts in her mind.

Then she knocked back the shot from Zenith’s 'Never have I ever,' and put a finger down the alcohol burning its way through her throat, sending a shiver through her slender frame. Barely had she set her glass down before Mephitis spoke up, forcing her to refill and take another shot. "I'll take that." She said with a shrug. Aella loooved riding her bike so it wasn't a bad one to lose on. The second shot went down rougher than the first, the warmth spreading through her chest and settling uncomfortably in her empty stomach. Now she only had 3 lives left.

Grimacing slightly, she quickly scooped up a spoonful of rice, her delicate fingers moving with a practiced elegance as she brought it to her lips. The rice was warm and soft, a comforting contrast to the harsh burn of the alcohol. She could feel it starting to take effect, a light buzz humming in her veins, loosening her thoughts.

Meph was acting like a baby with the alcohol, which brought a smirk to her lips, the expression only adding to her enigmatic allure. She glanced at Shingen, curiosity flickering in her eyes. She wondered how he would handle drinking—he wasn’t the type to let loose often, and it intrigued her.

A smirk curled on her lips as she came up with a mischievous idea, one that would get all three boys. “Never have I ever peed while standing up,” she declared, her voice light and playful, but with that same sharp edge that hinted she was always a step ahead. She brandished her 3 fingers and looked to Shingen who was next.

    Shingen Maeda

Starting them off was Zenith with a truly easy one. Having been the only one of the four not to attend the academy, he took a quick victory. Shingen shook his head at how obvious it had been and poured himself some of the sake. He took a small whiff, wondering if he knew the brand. He was grateful it was rice wine and not whiskey, having had a bad run in with it in the past. He deliberately emptied the cup, not throwing it back like some do but rather chose to greet the familiar burn in a controlled way, letting the alcoholic fumes vent themselves throughout. Nodding and with a smile, he set the cup down and lowered one of his fingers as he watched the others take their shot. He particularly watched Mephitis who got quite riled up at the swift loss of their first life. Shingen knew that it was still very much Mephitis but his new form expressed his displeasure in a most amusing and adorable way.

It was the explosive mana response of the dragon that made Shingen’s eyes go wide. The black bottle had indeed been a hellish enough concoction and would likely kill someone like Shingen although his curiosity was entirely peaked. Of course Aella handled herself gracefully, having just getting. Mephitis followed in Zenith’s suit and took his own easy victory, citing never having drove or piloted a vehicle. Shingen looked at him with a deadpan expression. ”Come on, man.” And poured himself another shot. Second down, it became easier, the initial path being cleared by his first life. As the last drops left the cup, Shingen bit his lip and exhaled, ready for Aella’s turn.

While it was just as obvious at least it was an interesting one. Shingen chuckled and shook his head again. ”I’m going to lose. I can already feel it.” He leaned forward for his third shot. With a sigh, he raised it up to his lips, watching Aella. His defeated smile took in the sake, more quickly this time as it’s bitterness seemed to bite at him more this time. He began to feel his face heating up now, and his head getting strangely lighter. Slamming the cup down, a focused expression fell over him as he struggled to think of something interesting but was simply too tempted to save himself as he was left with only two lives now. ”I’ve never....PLAYED A DRINKING GAME!” He exclaimed triumphantly but as it left his mouth, he realized how lame it sounded. He raised his cup up into the air like a trophy and hesitated to look down at everyone else. Did I get them?
