“You mean managing me and how long it took getting dressed.” He said with a joke, the others' hair took less time than it would have taken him to tie a tie. Aloysius was used to his hair and somehow it took so little time it seemed, or at least less than it should take given its length. “I might have to get him to show me how to tie a knot like this as well as a few others - private lessons in handling a tie…because I’m going to need it.” Because if he was going to be joining Melody at social events he’d best learn to tie a tie rather than ask her or keep having Aloysius help him.
“Oh, I like that. A menu with variety.” That was perfect for him, he could try a few different things than Melody knew how much he loved to try new foods. He made no secret about it and Aloysius knew, leftovers were always in the fridge. Reaching for the menu, flicking through it in a cursory manner, he did take note that there was no alcohol on the drink menu - perfect. He knew the other wouldn’t order anything, not with them both here, but he also didn’t think putting something so tempting in front of him would be nice either. He wasn’t looking to push the other yet, not like that, maybe in a few years he could be around people drinking but not yet. He was glad Melody was helping him tonight with that, as he was certain that was her doing.
“Thank you, I’m glad I graduated as well. It was worth it - all the time and stress.” All the effort and more. It had all finally paid off. Taking the first card he found his eyes watering, rapidly blinking, he wiped at his eyes. “Thank you…you have no idea how much this means - all of it. Not just the offer.” Which he knew he had, but to see it on paper and in a card, it really was touching for him. “You know I’m not about to turn down your offer.”

Aloy hesitated a moment before picking up the menu, he’d been here before and remembered how it was mostly a wine list in the past but as he saw in the corner of his eye, he noticed that it was different as Liam looked through it. Flipping through it, he settled in and looked over what he remembered had been good before. While the other two liked to try new things he kept mostly to the things he knew he liked, except when Liam cooked because he never wanted to turn down something they’d worked hard on.
“I can teach you, I know a lot of different ways to do that. I think I might still have one of those books about it that I got when going to college.” He’d know a basic few ways before then plus what his grandfather had taught him but the rest had come from that book that was probably still tucked in a box with a lot of his other school books from his first year at the university. But he also had a few other ideas for things that he might bring up at another point too.
The decorations weren’t too much as he noticed them while Mel poked around and brought out one of the cards. He knew she had a few more since he’d signed and set up little things inside them as well. It was still something he was getting used to as he had only known the birthday on their license from when he’d brought Liam to the hospital. To find out that the actual date was almost a month earlier had him a bit distraught and feeling bad that he’d missed it even if the other wasn’t as bothered by it from what he could tell.
Rubbing Liam’s arm lightly, he was a bit surprised to see them tearing up. “You did well Liam, better than anyone I have seen as of late when it comes to studying and doing homework.” The job offer had been something they’d brought up to him not too long ago so he knew that was coming and had warmed up to the idea of due to the fact they would mostly be working from home and that was something that really eased his worries.
Having decided on a pasta dish and water for a drink, he closed his own menu and looked over at Mel. Part of him was still hesitant about her being Liam’s boss but with all this it seemed like more of a good thing than a bad thing. She never seemed to take it out on them even if she hated him still.
—------------------------------------------------------
“I knew you’d like it, I figure I might try something different on the menu today to anyway since there are so many things on it. Feel free to get something to take home too, they always do things in sets of two so it’ll work out if you want anything extra.” She knew the food here kept well and often took home extra when she came here from time to time with some of her social acquaintances.
Her hand hovered over the next surprise, another thing she’d orchestrated in the background while they’d been busy studying for exams. The fact they were tearing up had her a bit unsure, she’d never really been like that and she looked at Aloysius for a moment to confirm if things were alright before she set another card down on the table that was covered in international stamps. She knew they’d probably call in the next few days to follow up on the card but timezones were fickle for right now while paperwork was managing its way through the proper channels.
“You did amazing Liam, you always do. You work hard, maybe a bit too hard but that’s okay.” Her choices for food ready, she then closed her menu as well. At some point the waiter would come but she wasn’t about to rush Liam and they had a long reservation since this was a double celebration. It did make her happy that they weren’t going to turn down her offer, not that she had any doubt on his side of things. It was more she had been worried her brother might put a stop to things but it seemed that this worked out for everyone.

“Ohh, sets of two - that sounds perfect.” Because he could bring something home then, perhaps even share with Desiree since she couldn’t be there with them. The idea came to him without much hesitation, always thinking of others, he felt bad the mauvian couldn’t take on her human form and join them, but Melody didn’t know about her and Desiree wanted it to remain as such.
Leaning into Aloysius’ side, taking comfort in the other being there, he flipped through the menu to find something interesting that looked and sounded good - something he’d not had before. Sniffing at the air, even through the door you could smell some foods, he sighed and smiled. “The food out there smells good -whatever someone is getting.” To be honest the whole place smelled good, and he was very much planning to ask Aloysius later if they could make this an every other week date night place.
But he found two things which looked good, really good, one involving seafood and the other a pasta dish with a white wine sauce and fresh vegetables. Both looked good - really good, and neither was terribly unhealthy either…the carbs weren’t something for him to worry about, he’d burn them at the gym when he went tomorrow. “I think I just had more reason than most do when it comes to college and working hard. Most have parents paying, or loans, and they’ve had a good life and they’ll do just fine. They have family to fall back on. I didn't, so I couldn’t fail. I also wanted to prove what I was capable of…despite everything. I wanted to prove myself and make something of myself.” Even though he’d had such a meager start in life, look where he was now. That was what he wanted his story, his climb up, to say to people. To prove how strong he was - that he could climb up in society and in life and do well on his own strength. He’d done it and this was proof of it - this party and the job offer.
Then there was the letter his so many stamps on it…taken from Melody with shaking hands as he opened it. “My father?” Though he knew it had to be from the man. “You told him how well I did?” He questioned, though he somehow already knew she had. Melody was as proud of him as Aloysius, she was as proud of him as he was of himself. “I still can’t believe you’re helping him come here as well. I’m nervous but so excited as well.” He’d finally have family and some but of himself. He hadn’t even known his real birthday till Melody found it out by chance. To find his father and to have a bit of his culture, to know his roots - it meant something. He could say he was Italian American and that he was half Italian…that his family came from Verona. It was a lot more about himself than he’d known growing up. It meant a lot to him and somehow he knew the two sitting with him knew that, that they understood it, even if they hadn’t lived as he had.
