Now there was that bit of fire. It was still so dim in those smoldering eyes, but a fire was starting to build once more. Her tears were far from gone, there was even a tremble to that voice, but she was trying. Ari could only respect her for it.

Earn my keep? Excuse me? At this point I’m helping you so why don’t you earn your keep and give me your name? Otherwise, I’ll just have to think of a nickname. Something I can tell the others when they want to avoid you.” Not that any of them would. There were plenty of young men and women alike at that boarding house who would no doubt want to talk to her. Even buddled up as she was Arkadios could tell she was a beauty.

If she kept flashing that fire around, though, they might keep back a step or two.

“My name is Zerynthia.” The paler hybrid huffed. As they made their way back out into the main thoroughfare she reached for her hood and pulled it back up onto her head once more. The light fabric of her cloak was blessedly cool compared to the warmth coming from the sun and she would be grateful once it started to set. “And the only nickname I’ll answer to is Zeri which you might be able to call me if you’re nice to me.”

And after a moment, she grinned, “Which you have been so consider yourself blessed, Ari.” He was already starting to get under her skin in an annoying way, but Ari was kind and she wouldn’t forget what he’d done for her. Maybe she should get him some kind of gift? Like a bottle of wine or – was he even a wine drinker? Just thank him and move on. Save your coin. That was probably the smarter thing anyway.

Blessed or cursed? It seemed to be a growing trend not only from his family but from those he met to have impossibly long names so maybe that was a sign? Some sort of symbol that she was going to stick around in his life for a long time, whether he wanted it to happen or not. At least she was smiling now, even if it seemed a little strained and as they walked Ari took pride in knowing he’d done something good.

“If it helps…when I first came to Sulburi and I started to look for work they told me I should go to Jinora’s too. That’s how I knew where to go.” Not that it needed explaining. Or maybe it did? Maybe she thought he was the sort to spend all of his pay in a place like that? Not that he hadn’t been tempted a time or two.

"It really doesn't help." She pointed out with an emboldened whine. The smaller hybrid knew she was just being petty at that point, but she'd already been shamed enough for one day. Why not just let it all out while she could? Still...now that he'd said as much she turned her honeyed eyes his way. Ari could have lived comfortably if he'd taken to working in a place like this, which made her wonder why he wasn't or maybe he had, at one point?

"...How much does Vira charge for a room?" She didn't want to admit just how broke she actually was, but Zerynthia was tapped. The girl had spent so much of her savings on fashion and accessories on the way down that she'd assumed someone of wealth would invest in her on the spot. In a way they had; just not the trade she wanted.

There it is. He didn't know when he'd come to view whining and self-deprecation as a good thing, but at least when she was pouting she wasn't crying. It made it a little easier to steer her away from the dodgier side of town toward...well, something still on the cheaper end, but good. Solid. The right sort of people.

"Whatever you've got to spare. She charges a rate, but what you can't pay in coin you can work off. Washing, sweeping, repairs; those sorts of things." He offered a little grin. "I'm sure you'll find a way." This little slip of a woman certainly didn't look the part of a hard worker, but for all of her size she was solidly built. There was muscle there, a fair bit of it too, and during the brief moments he held her hand there had been callouses. He had little doubt that she'd make her way somehow.
