Ganymede took his hand. She squeezed it supportively, knowing Valhalla might never agree with her about Serge, even as he saw and learned more. It was a subject they might always have to agree to disagree on.
“As long as we’ve gotten the Code figured out, we can worry about cleaning up the rest after,” she said.
She looked around again, just as Valhalla did. It wasn’t the most reassuring sight, but the Code was noticeably more stable; that was the most important step right now. They’d cleaned up before and could do it again. A little time and effort hadn’t done them wrong over the last several years. In fact, it had benefited them both in a significant way.
Ganymede lowered her gaze to her own right hand, where Liesel’s scar glowed like a golden ghost—a symbol of his love for Serge that had spanned a thousand years already. He couldn’t have known then that it would later adorn her palm, that his starseed would find Serge’s again, but it was a nice thought to think that fate wasn’t always cruel, that their starseeds had been allowed this kindness—a second chance to get things right.
With a small, sad smile, Ganymede lifted her hand so her glowing palm faced Valhalla.

While Valhalla didn’t understand Serge, nor did he agree with everything Serge had done, he was at least comforted by the fact that Ganymede didn’t seem to hold ill memories of his past life. Or at least the good memories outweighed the bad.
Valhalla met Ganymede’s sad smile with one of his own, and lifted his left hand, a glowing scar across his palm that mirrored hers, and pressed them together.
He was aware of the significance. And while he didn’t have the best feelings about Serge, he did understand his devotion.
And his love.
