Auli'i 8

The tone of his voice, strange coming from the hybrid's mouth, made Auli'i head snap back to his face, where she could see the emotions reflected in his pale eyes as he watched the piplit in the pool. Though her own voice was calm and her face devoid of most emotion, the Hapuna still felt the anger inside her chest. It wasn't fair to treat something so small and defenseless with such disregard. But that was the way of the world sometimes. Sometimes people were cruel beyond imagining. At least they didn't look hurt. Just abandoned. Probably by ignorant Earthlings who thought it'd be easy to raise a pair of animals. Probably parents who had given into the demands of their children, not realizing the responsibility. They definitely came from irresponsible breeders doing it for profit and less for the benefit of the creatures, not caring who they ended up with. You should only breed what you yourself can take care of to avoid situations like this.

"We can't leave them here."

Minke 9

"Of course not," The piplit were fine. That he could see. He ws grateful that the storm hadn't messed with their home, at least not in drastic ways. Though the water was at the very top of the pool's edges, none had been washed away. He could without guilt focus all his attention on the alol on his shoulders. He could feel their steady breathing, the slowing of their heartbeats. It seemed they were sleeping. Poor things might not have gotten much sleep out here, in this unfamiliar world all alone.

Minke stood up, hunching over slightly so they didn't fall off. Two young ones were still one too many to fit comfortably on an Earthling.

"I will have to take them home. Have my father look them over. Find them good homes like the ones who bred them should have done." His mind was already racing with ideas of who he could ask to take them. The options were very limited.

Auli'i 9

Auli'i was in awe, listening to Minke speaking with such confidence. He didn't stutter. Didn't pause. Didn't once hesitate in saying what was on his mind. It was such a quick transformation, she couldn't help but smile as she rose up with him. Placing her hands behind her back, the Hapuna swayed on her feet. "That sounds like a good idea," she agreed. "I've never seen you so fired up."

Minke 10

It took Minke a while to realize what exactly Auli'i had said to him, as he turned his body carefully to begin the now much longer walk back home. "Wh...What...Did I say?" Color rose to his cheeks as he thought back on it, the flush standing out brightly against his pale skin. He had been so forward. So determined. Oh, he had had many moments over the years where he would hear of something upsetting regarding an animal and would voice his opinion about it. There was nothing he hated more than cruelty to animals. But this was the first time it had happened in front of someone other than his sister, who shared his passionate view.

"So...Sorry," he answered quietly, guiltily.

Auli'i 10

Auli'i couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips as the old Minke she liked so much came shining back through. "Aw, Minke. You really are one of a kind, aren't you?" she said with much affection, resisting the urge to stroke his flushed cheek. He was so cute, in both attitude and appearance, it made her want to throw her arms around him. Of course, she didn't do such a thing. Rarely ever touched him, for that matter. A difficult thing for an affectionate person like herself to do. But he had boundaries and she respected him too much to make him uncomfortable like that. "Please never change."
