Jace looked at him through further squinted eyes. At first, it was because Holden thought he could be on the other side of things–Holden knew him! Holden knew he wanted to be a good lawyer, he wanted to help people! How could he think that he would be on the other side of things.

He was about to puff out his chest and give Holden a good lecture to remind him when Holden introduced himself.

Garuda, of Starlings.

Who had saved Jace from a youma already.

The air left his lungs and his face relaxed, replaced with a stupefied expression. Some of the color left his face, but how could he not be shocked?

…Actually, no. That explained a lot. When he replayed the night in his head it was too easy to put Holden’s face where the Senshi’s had been.

“...Is that why you saved me?” His expression shifted suddenly. He wasn’t mad; it was a rare moment of catching Jace completely off guard and he seemed to be thinking out loud–quickly, but without any heat or venom. “You pretended like you didn’t know me! I gave you my number, why didn’t you ever call? I thought about you–Holden.” His eyes snapped back to him with sudden clarity. “Holden, I called you after that and you didn’t tell me? I thought I was crazy. You–you can’t keep secrets, how did you keep that to yourself?”
