“I know, okay?” Realizing how sharp her tone was, Vetra furrowed her brows and grimaced. “…I know.” She just didn’t want to lose her to someone else. Neither Ilsa nor Seiong had even shown interest in Enya, but having them close had put up some sort of barrier in Vetra’s mind. When it was just the two of them it was easy to see how wrong it was, but around others that wall was so much harder to see around.
“I think you should go stay with your Aunts tonight. I’ll find a place of my own in the morning. I…just don’t think we should stay together anymore.”

“It’s alright. You don’t have to leave.” With a sigh, Enya slowly picked herself up off the ground. Her ribs hurt and her head was splitting, but her heart ached more. “I won’t be in Zinris for much longer and you were going to stay for training, right? You’ll need it.”
For a moment she couldn’t even really look at Vetra, but that was silly. Confession or not Vetra was one of the most important people in her life so when she turned back to the Elidae she held out a hand. “Maybe the time apart will do us both some good?”

“Yeah, maybe.” Vetra reached up for Enya’s hand and got to her feet with a grunt. It would be hard not having the other Elidae at her side, but this needed to end. She would much rather leave it as it was than risk having Enya hate her or saying something she didn’t just to hurt her. For a moment she was loathe to let go of the others hand, but with a sigh she dropped Enya’s hand.
“Just…don’t leave without saying goodbye? If you don’t mind me being there to send you off.”

Enya’s lips quirked into an awkward smile. “Wouldn’t dare.” Steeling herself, the Aishan walked past her friend and murmured a ‘good night’ before continuing on the path into Zinris. There was so much running through her mind that Enya doubted she would get any sleep that night. How could she not have seen the signs? Picked up on the ques or even questioned Vetra’s behavior?
Maybe tomorrow she would talk it over with her cousins or reach out to an Auntie for advise. For now she just wanted to hide away in her cot and bury herself in a blanket.

“Proud of yourself, Vetra?” She murmured while watching Enya’s back fade into the dark. As frustrated as she was with herself nothing compared to mourning the loss of what never was. Her mother would have told her to chase after Enya, make her truly see what she was missing out on, but Vetra had already pushed her emotions on Enya for too long. If she’d been interested there would have been a spark in that kiss, and there just…wasn’t. Anymore now would have been wrong.
And she didn’t want that.
So, the Elidae lowered her head and turned down her own path back to their – her – home.
